Chapter 5 Why Should I Marry Him?
Jiang Yizhuo was still typing and arguing with Lu Chong, but Lu Chong had already turned off his phone, looking like he wouldn't argue with a fool.
Mu Yan was oblivious to all of this, and quietly returned to his seat after helping Lu Chong set up the environment.
It was actually just an ordinary match. Among the matches Mu Yan had played, the questions weren't particularly strange, and the final result wasn't good or bad.
In reality, Lu Chong was not just self-taught as he claimed. His math skills were excellent, far beyond what one would expect from a liberal arts student, and his coding abilities were not much worse than those of professional programmers like Mu Yan and Jiang Yizhuo.
He is humble, capable, and responsible—a million times better than the rumors suggest.
Mu Yan secretly glanced at his profile, feeling fortunate to know more about Lu Chong than others.
As for what use it would be to know more about Lu Chong, Mu Yan himself didn't know.
He and Lu Chong were from completely different worlds. He was a beta, and even stories like Cinderella marrying into a wealthy family were completely foreign to him.
Later, after he actually got together with Lu Chong, he often felt like it was all a dream.
It's like trying to catch the moon's reflection in the water, looking at the moon in the pond and mistakenly believing that you own it.
In college, Lu Chong was like the male lead in an idol drama; his good looks and generosity were his least noteworthy virtues. He would always use photos of Mu Yan from various angles as his phone and computer wallpapers, he would accompany Mu Yan to those boring algorithm classes, and he would pick Mu Yan up from the lab even when Mu Yan was busy until late at night.
Lu Chong didn't want to see him too tired, but he didn't persuade himself to give up his part-time job either. Instead, he introduced him to a professor to work on a project. Mu Yan knew that professor. He was highly skilled and kind to his students, but he had extremely high standards and had never allowed an undergraduate to join the project.
The professor's monthly stipend was a full thousand yuan, and Mu Yan often participated in various competitions with prize money, so he no longer needed to do random part-time jobs, and even had extra money to send to his brother and mother.
Mu Yan sometimes felt ashamed. When Lu Chong appeared in his dilapidated rented room that morning, looking lost and dejected, a strange emotion rose in a corner of Mu Yan's heart, in addition to feeling sorry for him.
He could never catch up with Lu Chong in his entire life; the inherent gap between them was longer than his own lifespan. He knew that one day Lu Chong would break up with him, so he would just live each day as it came.
But then something happened in Lu Chong's family, as if... even God wanted them to be together.
Although Lu Chong became increasingly depressed after that, his temper worsened, he became unwilling to communicate with others, he would give the silent treatment after every argument, and he was always suspicious. Several times he would get angry at Mu Yan for no reason, saying that he had come back with someone else's pheromones.
After being scolded for no reason, Mu Yan always comforted herself that things would be alright, and that two people always have to compromise and make concessions to each other when they are together.
It's already a blessing that he's by my side.
He scooped the noodles out of the pot, poured on the topping, ate them without tasting them, and then washed the dishes.
When he saw the three plates in the sink, his heart seemed to clench again.
He tried to tell himself that when he fell in love with Lu Chong, Lu Chong was a pampered young master. Back then, he was picky about food, and if you like someone, you should accept everything about them.
He's been with me for so long, and apart from being picky about food, he has almost no material demands.
Lu Chong was just a bit childish; he wouldn't pretend to have eaten, wash the bowl, and say nice things to please him like others would.
It's impossible not to feel wronged, but ultimately, he was particularly devastated because of his own problems. To put all the blame on Lu Chong would be unreasonable.
But........
At that moment, the door lock clicked, and someone inserted the key into the lock.
Before Mu Yan could put the washed dishes into the sterilizer, she was swayed and hugged by the person who had returned.
"Wife."
Lu Chong must have been drunk; his face was flushed and his breathing was rapid.
"You've been drinking, why didn't you ask me to pick you up?" Mu Yan momentarily forgot about their argument that morning and asked with concern.
Lu Chong held him tightly in his arms, saying nothing. He was drunk and seemed dazed, as if he hadn't understood Mu Yan's words.
This might be one reason why he doesn't like drinking. Mu Yan knows he's a very demanding person and doesn't like being in an irrational state. He also dislikes relaxation behaviors that could harm his body.
Therefore, Lu Chong only has one way to relieve stress: sex.
"I'll go make you some honey water."
He tried to help Lu Chong to the sofa, but Lu Chong was held even tighter.
"Hold me for a while," Lu Chong said.
"You don't like drinking, so why are you drinking so much?"
"Social engagements"
He frowned, seemingly because he had drunk too much alcohol and his stomach was a little acidic.
Lu Chong loosened his grip on him a little, and Mu Yan then helped him to sit down on the bed in the room. Just as he was about to make some honey water for Lu Chong, Lu Chong pulled him onto his lap again.
It wasn't a sign of sex; he was simply sitting with Lu Chong in his arms. Lu Chong had been drinking, and there was no movement between his legs.
In this position where he was being held, Mu Yan was a little taller than him, so Lu Chong had to tilt his head slightly to kiss him.
Mu Yan cupped his face in her hands, obediently accepting his kiss. After kissing Lu Chong, he buried his face in her arms, and Mu Yan gently stroked his hair.
"I don't like socializing."
"Can we not go?" Mu Yan asked.
He didn't understand business matters; the only help he could offer was to comfort Lu Chong when he was in a bad mood.
In reality, he's not very good at comforting people.
Lu Chong shook his head in his arms.
"We need to make money."
“You don’t have to earn so much money,” Mu Yan kissed his forehead. “I’ll give you a raise next year. You should find a regular job. You’re so capable; you can do anything well. I love you, and I don’t want you to be so tired. Even if you don’t work, I’ll support you…”
"I want to... marry you." Mu Yan couldn't say such cheesy words when he was sober. Lu Chong, half drunk and half sober, gently pinched the flesh on his waist.
Although he doesn't like drinking, he's not the type to spill alcohol after just a few drinks.
He just gave Mu Yan the cold shoulder this morning and didn't want to apologize properly.
When Mu Yan called him this morning, he knew that Mu Yan had probably been wronged by Lin Guojun and wanted to comfort him.
But Mu Yan's gambling father was someone he had advised him to stop associating with, yet Mu Yan insisted on getting close to him, and he deserved to suffer the injustice.
He knew Mu Yan would be upset, and he just wanted to teach him a lesson.
Mu Yan said, "It's okay. If you're busy, we can talk about it when you get home." At that moment, Lu Chong heard the suppressed sob in his voice, but he didn't want to comfort him.
Since Mu Yan likes him, she won't hold it against him.
"We can get married right now..."
Lu Chong shook his head.
He's not really bankrupt, so why should he marry Mu Yan, an ordinary beta?
Lu Chong was deeply influenced by elitism. From a young age, his father had extremely high expectations of him, demanding the best in everything from grades and competitions to violin playing. If he didn't do his best, he would receive a cold look from his father. Over time, he became unable to accept that he was mediocre in any aspect.
The wife he wants to marry should be a match for him in terms of family background, appearance, and ability.
As for Mu Yan, once his small company is up and running and he goes back to prove his abilities to his elders, they will give him more money as compensation.
If he doesn't care about the money and only cares about himself, then it's not impossible for him to keep a mistress outside. He can just tell his future wife not to cause trouble for Mu Yan.
He knew in truth that Mu Yan hadn't had a single good day with him. Things might have been alright when they first got together, but everything he had given Mu Yan back then was sold off intact by Mu Yan when he decided to start his own business.
Although Mu Yan wasn't exactly handsome and his family was a mess, despite getting into A University, he was timid, lacked ability, and couldn't be considered outstanding. However, Mu Yan's greatest strength was her gentleness and love for him; even if he had nothing now, she was willing to stay by his side.
They are completely focused on themselves, believing that even if they go bankrupt, they will still be foolishly supported, and that they are still a beta that no one will covet.
As Lu Chong's first lover, he didn't know what kind of spell Mu Yan had cast on him, but he still hadn't grown tired of her. He wasn't an ungrateful person; he would remember Mu Yan's kindness. Even after returning to the Lu family, he wouldn't immediately dump Mu Yan.
"Stop making a fuss, okay? I'll go make you some honey water."
Mu Yan gently grasped the hand that was messing with him, as if discussing it, and only stood up from his lap after he agreed, and went to make him honey water.
There were still desserts he had casually placed on the table. Lu Chong was probably feeling nauseous now and wouldn't want to eat them. But if he waited until tomorrow, he probably wouldn't eat them either.
Mu Yan hesitated for a moment, but still took the Basque cake back into the room.
Lu Chong had been waiting for a while and was getting sleepy; his eyes were a little vacant. They only focused again when he saw him.
"I want to eat," Lu Chong said childishly, seeing the familiar packaging in his hand. "Do I have to finish my medicine before I can eat cake?"
Just as Mu Yan was about to say that this wasn't medicine but sweet honey water, Lu Chong took the honey water, drank it in a few gulps, and then looked at Mu Yan.
“It’s edible.” Mu Yan nodded.
"I want you to feed me," he said, throwing a tantrum.
Having no other choice, Mu Yan took the cake, tore open the fork packaging, and fed it to Lu Chong with the fork.
Lu Chong then pulled him onto his lap, his arms around his waist.
The cake had been sitting out for a long time, but Lu Chong actually preferred it warm. Mu Yan would usually heat it up for him in the microwave, but today he was drunk, so even if Mu Yan forgot to heat it up, he was surprisingly easy to handle.
Even after three years together, Lu Chong's face still held a fatal attraction for him.
Lu Chong's features were exquisite, yet he didn't appear effeminate at all. His phoenix eyes often seemed sharp at first glance, but when he curved his eyes to look at Mu Yan, the sense of distance disappeared. His upper lip was very thin, which was said to be a sign of a cold-hearted person.
My brother believed in these things. He said that people with thin lips are cold-hearted and heartless, and dating such a person would only end up with nothing.
