Chapter 4 In short, romance novels won't work.

"Xiao Yan wouldn't discriminate against liberal arts students, would she?" Jiang Yizhuo said half-jokingly and exaggeratedly, "Achong is very reliable. I swear on my precious luck in love, if he weren't reliable, I wouldn't be able to find a partner before graduation."

"You only have one more semester until graduation. You haven't had a boyfriend for three years. What's one more semester?" Lu Chong said, trying to defuse the situation when Mu Yan shook his head hastily, seeing that Mu Yan couldn't take the teasing.

"Student Lu... you're studying international business law, what made you decide to participate in a modeling competition?"

After Mu Yan said those lines, he realized that Lu Chong had not introduced his specific major.

He felt a little embarrassed, but Lu Chong smiled and said, "I just want to try things I've never tried before, and it's good to meet some new friends."

Lu Chong spoke calmly, showing no surprise or offense. When he mentioned making some new friends, he looked at Mu Yan gently, as if referring to something.

That's true. He knows he's famous, so it's not surprising that people he meets for the first time know his profession.

His speaking habits were completely different from those of Mu Yan. When answering Mu Yan's questions, he habitually looked Mu Yan in the eyes.

Mu Yan knew it would be impolite to look away at this moment, so he had no choice but to bite the bullet and meet Lu Chong's gaze.

Mu Yan has many professional alphas, including Jiang Yizhuo, who is also an alpha. They do homework and projects together, but no one has ever made Mu Yan want to lower his head and look away like Lu Chong.

For some reason, his ears were burning hot and must have turned red. He just hoped the other two wouldn't notice.

It's not even 6 a.m. yet, and most of the people appearing at the school gate are students heading off to participate in a modeling competition. The competition involves several consecutive nights of staying up late, so most people choose to book hotel rooms to avoid disturbing their roommates and to facilitate communication with their teammates.

Jiang Yizhuo knew many people, and he greeted each acquaintance who walked by very warmly, obviously not noticing Mu Yan's slightly reddened ears.

Mu Yan hoped that Lu Chong would be like him, but unfortunately Lu Chong neither paid any attention to the people coming and going who wanted to chat with him, nor did he notice his reddened ears.

"Why are your ears red? Did they get cold?"

He took off his scarf, seemed to hesitate for a moment, and then handed it to Mu Yan.

The scarf came into contact with the glands on the back of Mu Yan's neck. If Mu Yan were an omega, Lu Chong handing him an object covered in his pheromones would almost certainly be considered sexual harassment.

However, Mu Yan was just a beta, so he couldn't smell pheromones and therefore it wasn't considered impolite.

He was unusually familiar with the scarf brand; he had heard the nanny mention it when he was tutoring, and that scarves from this brand cost tens of thousands of yuan.

Mu Yan hadn't even thought about the pheromone issue; she just thought the scarf was too expensive and shook her head, saying she wasn't cold.

Lu Chong did not take the scarf back; his gaze remained fixed on the man's reddened ears.

"Aren't you cold?" Lu Chong asked. "Your face is red from the cold. Don't catch a cold."

He took a step forward, just a small step, and then wrapped the scarf around the back of Mu Yan's neck and tied it for him, as if afraid of offending Mu Yan, very gentlemanly not touching his skin.

"Playing dead." Jiang Yizhuo had been standing some distance away from the two people to chat with an acquaintance, but after that person's teammate arrived, he retreated back to Mu Yan and Lu Chong's side and complained in a low voice.

Mu Yan was startled by this sudden remark and instinctively let out an "Ah!"

"Didn't you see him? That guy just now, Gao Yiming. He's from our year, always slacking off on group assignments, and now he's even leading an omega to a competition. What a load of crap."

Jiang Yizhuo was naturally slow-witted, which fits the stereotype of professional alphas. He angrily cursed for a long time without even noticing that Lu Chong's scarf had appeared with Mu Yan.

Only after he finished complaining did he realize that the atmosphere seemed a little awkward.

Lu Chong seemed not to be listening to him much, completely ignoring the main point he was trying to make: "You can also bring an omega to the competition."

"Is that the point? All you heard about was bringing an omega to the competition, Lu Chong. I've discovered you're not a good person either."

Mu Yan was about to say that people like that were the most annoying, but he felt that saying it after Jiang Yizhuo's scolding of Lu Chong seemed a bit inappropriate. He was clumsy and always afraid of making people uncomfortable with his words, always having to mentally rehearse what he was going to say before speaking.

Fortunately, Lu Chong's driver arrived at that moment. He parked the car at the school gate and opened the door for the three of them.

They can leave from the school gate now and arrive at the hotel just minutes before the competition questions are announced at 6 p.m.

Jiang Yizhuo's family is well-off. He had booked the hotel for the previous few competitions himself, and he was afraid that Mu Yan would ask him to share the expenses. He always said that it was his brother's hotel and that he hadn't spent any money.

This time it was Lu Chong's hotel. As soon as they entered, staff members greeted them and pressed the button for the top-floor elevator.

"Young Master Lu is really generous," Jiang Yizhuo said, expressing his disdain for Lu Chong's extravagant behavior, as the presidential suite required advance booking. "He's even staying in a presidential suite for a competition?"

"It's quite large, enough for three people, which makes communication easier," Lu Chong said casually. "So you're allowed to bring an omega?"

Jiang Yizhuo didn't have any omegas to bring to the hotel, but using that to refute Lu Chong was obviously more embarrassing for an alpha. He shut his mouth in embarrassment and followed Lu Chong to the room to sit down.

Mu Yan had already taken out his computer and plugged in the adapter. His computer was a secondhand find from a resale market, helped by his close roommate. It looked old, had a mediocre processor, and was a bit slow at running code.

When competing, Mu Yan rarely felt inferior because of such things. After all, no one understands better than the people who signed up for the competition that no matter how fast the processor runs, it's all for nothing without a good algorithm.

"By the way, Mu Yan, could you help me configure the virtual environment? I seem to have trouble with a few packages," Lu Chong politely asked for help. He was responsible for writing the paper to present the results after the modeling was completed, so whether he participated in writing the code or not was not important. "A couple of days ago, I also wanted to try to help you guys out."

Mu Yan was a beat slow to react. He didn't know why Lu Chong chose him instead of Jiang Yizhuo, who was closer to him, for help. After a moment, he came to his senses.

Perhaps it was because he had just had a quarrel with Senior Jiang and was afraid that Senior Jiang would make fun of him again.

"Yes, you can. Of course you can. Actually, you don't necessarily have to follow the online tutorials. Some of the packages are outdated and no longer needed."

Mu Yan walked over with his head slightly lowered, so he couldn't see Jiang Yizhuo's almost sky-high eye roll at Lu Chong.

He learned mathematical modeling online, and when he encountered problems, he would muster the courage to email his school's instructors for help. He assumed that Lu Chong was the same as him, but in reality, if Lu Chong wanted to learn, his family could bring the problem-setting team from last year's competition from abroad to teach him.

How could someone not even know how to configure the environment?

When Mu Yan was setting up the environment for Lu Chong, he sat in Lu Chong's seat, while Lu Chong stood beside him, leaning over to look at the screen.

"So that's how it is." Lu Chong spoke calmly, but his tone was not without emotion. For someone like him to say such a thing was tantamount to saying, "Mu Yan is really amazing."

Mu Yan felt his face getting hot: "It's not difficult, it's just that this bag is basically no longer needed, which is why you can't find out how it was packed."

"Then Mu Yan is very knowledgeable about this, which is quite impressive."

Lu Chong might be a little nearsighted, so he had to get very close to see the screen clearly, but this distance was a bit too intimate for Mu Yan, who could almost feel Lu Chong's even, long breaths.

Just as Mu Yan was debating whether to lean forward slightly to avoid the situation, Lu Chong straightened up.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw that he seemed to be typing, replying to someone's message.

"Why?" Lu Chong typed a question to the person who was in a room less than a few meters away but insisted on sending a message.

YZ: "Lu Chong, have some decency! So many omegas are eager to like you, but you insist on choosing such an honest kid. Lu Chong, I'm begging you, you can't possibly marry him, so stop playing with his feelings."

YZ: "You don't even know how to match the environment? Have you no shame? Are you going to have to be fed later?"

L: "Whose feelings have I ever toyed with?"

Jiang Yizhuo was speechless.

Jiang Yizhuo and he have known each other since childhood. As Lu Chong said, it is true that he has never been in a relationship or played with other people's feelings.

However, the difference in their social status is too great. Would the heir of the Lu family really marry a beta from a commoner background?

When Jiang Yizhuo first met Mu Yan, the boy was wearing a faded T-shirt and holding an old computer, but he was very polite when he spoke to people, and his code was fast, good, and highly readable.

After getting to know the child better, he felt even more sorry for him. His mother was seriously ill and needed money, while his father was irresponsible. Jiang Yizhuo thought he should help as much as he could, so he introduced Mu Yan to a few tutoring jobs.

It was just a small favor, but Mu Yan was extremely grateful to him. Whenever Jiang Yizhuo went to the cafeteria where he worked part-time, he would always quietly put a lot of meat on his plate.

"Won't your boss be upset with you?" Jiang Yizhuo once asked him, half-jokingly.

Mu Yan's eyes widened, and after a moment of stunned silence, she shook her head, her face slightly flushed, and answered earnestly, "He won't know."

Both clumsy and sincere.

YZ: "If you win him over, would you consider marrying him?"

Lu Chong typed back: "Why should I consider marrying him? So many people date in college, do they have to consider marriage with every single one of them?"

Jiang Yizhuo was stumped by his question.

He still felt that Lu Chong's starting point was wrong, but he was not good at arguing with people and did not want to argue with Lu Chong about this.

YZ: "In short, Xiaoyan won't do, you should find someone else."
