Chapter 318 Shopping at the Supermarket
She had her phone on silent while watching the movie, which is why she didn't hear it ring.
"I'll make a phone call," Riemann said politely to Chen Shi.
Chen Shi smiled and nodded, and then Riemann called back.
"Where are you?" Huo Jiansheng's magnetic voice came through the phone as soon as it was answered.
“I’m outside. I was watching a movie with a friend, and my phone was on silent,” Li Man explained.
Upon hearing that Li Man had gone to the movies with her friends, Huo Jiansheng suddenly felt uncomfortable, as he realized he hadn't actually seen a movie with Li Man yet.
"What kind of friend?" Huo Jiansheng asked sourly.
“A friend I’ve known since childhood,” Riemann said without hiding anything.
There's really nothing to hide; she and Huo Jiansheng are just friends.
Although Huo Jiansheng treated her very well, and she also had feelings for him, he never said he liked her, so she never dared to think in that direction, let alone have any improper thoughts.
She didn't want to take her relationship with Huo Jiansheng any further, so she thought it was fine to maintain the status quo.
The person on the other end of the phone said "oh" and didn't ask any further questions.
After a moment of silence, Huo Jiansheng asked, "When are you coming back?"
“I probably won’t go back,” Riemann said.
"What about your barbecue stand? Are you giving it up?" Huo Jiansheng asked sullenly.
"Okay, let's not do it anymore. Let Xiaohui do it by herself."
"Have you thought it through...? Are you really not coming back?"
"Yes, I've made up my mind. I'm worried about my mom being home alone, so I'm going to stay here with her."
After another moment of silence, Huo Jiansheng said dejectedly, "I understand."
After ending the call, Riemann turned off the silent mode on his phone.
Chen Shi stood beside Li Man the whole time. He had overheard most of the phone call, but he didn't ask any questions. He was happy that Li Man said she wasn't going back.
After putting her phone back in her bag, Riemann asked, "What did you just say?"
Chen Shi quickly said, "Shall we walk around some more? There's nothing to do if we go home so early."
Riemann looked at the falling snow and frowned. "Where should we go for a stroll?"
It doesn't really matter where you go shopping; what matters is who you go with. If you're with someone you like, even just strolling around can be fun.
"Chinese New Year is coming soon, how about we go to the supermarket to buy some things?"
Speaking of going to the supermarket, Li Man suddenly remembered that there were many things she hadn't bought yet. Her father had passed away, and the family had been shrouded in grief, so she hadn't been in the mood to buy anything. She decided to take advantage of the day to buy some things to take home.
Riemann replied, "Okay."
The two arrived at the supermarket, and Riemann went to the fresh produce section and bought some beef and pork shoulder.
Chen Shi pushed the shopping cart, and Li Man put the selected items into the cart.
Watching Riemann carefully select items, Chen Shi couldn't help but smile.
His ideal life has always been to marry the person he loves, each busy with their own work, shopping and cooking together after get off work, and watching a movie together on weekends.
He felt like he was dreaming after watching a movie and shopping at the supermarket with Riemann today.
The frustration I felt at the movie theater has vanished, replaced by a feeling of pure happiness.
Just as Chen Shi was immersed in happiness, a figure suddenly rushed out and slapped Li Man hard across the face.
All of this happened too fast.
Neither Riemann nor Chen Shi reacted.
Caught completely off guard, Riemann was slapped.
She froze, staring blankly at the angry stranger in front of her, frantically searching her memory for anything about the woman.
