Chapter 13 Establishing Family Rules
That day, as soon as Ye Wanning got up, she asked Cui'er to inform the servants in the mansion to go to the main hall for a meeting.
Cui'er asked with some confusion, "It's still early in the morning, I guess no one is up yet, what are you going to do, Your Highness?"
"You'll find out when the time comes," Ye Wanning waved her hand. "Go on."
Just as Cui'er had estimated, because their mistress was an idiot, the people in the manor didn't really respect them. So when Ye Wanning suddenly announced such an early meeting, few people could get up. Ye Wanning sat in the main hall, took a sip of tea, and looked at the few people standing before her, saying nothing.
Perhaps because Cui'er woke them up so early in the morning, a few people were dissatisfied and muttered under their breath, "What's so important that it's so early? If not, let's go home. I'm really sleepy."
Seeing that the dissatisfaction of the people standing there was growing stronger, and Ye Wanning still did not make any move, Cui'er became a little anxious, "Your Highness, if you don't say something, these people will probably get impatient, and it won't be good if they hold a grudge."
Ye Wanning did not answer. Ha, holding grudges. Do these people really not know who the master is in this mansion?
When Butler Li arrived at the main hall, he saw Ye Wanning drinking tea, while the servants stood in front of the hall complaining. He was startled and immediately went over, "Your Highness... what's going on today..."
Seeing that about 70-80% of the guests had arrived, Ye Wanning had no intention of waiting any longer. She put down her teacup and said to Steward Li, "Steward Li, you've come at the right time. I think the atmosphere in our mansion needs a change."
Butler Li was taken aback, looking at Ye Wanning in surprise, "Does the Princess mean..."
Ye Wanning smiled at him, then turned to the large group of people in front of her and said, "The servants in this manor are becoming more and more unruly. I don't care what you were like before, but the prince didn't understand these things before. Now that I am the princess, I must help the prince manage this manor well. I don't want you to go out and have people look down on you when they say that person is from the Prince of Jin's manor. Do you understand?"
Ye Wanning's voice was not loud but it was strong and clear. Butler Li stared at her blankly. The people in this mansion were always lazy and lazy. Moreover, many of them were spies sent by the Crown Prince. No one listened to what he said or did. But today, after the Crown Princess said this, Butler Li smiled knowingly. It seems that the Prince has married the right person this time!
Ye Wanning's words had no effect; the servants continued to yawn and looked lazy.
Seeing this, Ye Wanning did not get angry. She crossed her arms and strolled leisurely back and forth in front of the hall. "Today, I'm going to establish a rule here. From now on, you must sign in with Miss Cui'er or Steward Li every morning when you get up, and you must also sign out with them before you go to bed at night. You don't need to be too early in the morning, just around this time."
At this point, Ye Wanning narrowed her eyes, "Tonight is up to you, but you can only sign out after dinner."
She walked to the chair and sat down gently. "As the saying goes, things shouldn't happen more than three times. If you leave early or are late three times, then I'm sorry, the Prince's Mansion won't keep a useless person like you." Ye Wanning picked up her teacup and took a small sip. "I know that the servants in the Prince's Mansion are paid two taels of silver a month. If they are late or leave early, their wages will be deducted. But if they arrive and leave on time, I will give them a raise. How about that?"
"You think you can just resign like that?" Some of the servants were clearly getting impatient, seemingly very dissatisfied with Ye Wanning's rule.
Ye Wanning squinted at him. The man looked like a servant, but his eyes were full of contempt. After a moment, Ye Wanning asked, "What's your name?"
The man looked up at her and said, "My name is Pan Lei."
Ye Wanning tapped the table, and after a while sneered, "Do you call the shots in this Prince's Mansion, or do I?"
Ye Wanning's words left Pan Lei speechless. "I..."
"Alright." Ye Wanning smiled. "Since you look down on working in the Prince's mansion, then the Prince of Jin's mansion will not keep you any longer. Steward Li, see the guest out!"
Pan Lei was startled. Seeing Butler Li walking towards him, he immediately dodged to the side. "How dare you! I am the Crown Prince's man!"
Upon hearing this, Butler Li stopped in his tracks and looked at Ye Wanning, as if asking for her opinion.
"Ha, the Crown Prince's men? The Crown Prince's influence is truly extensive," Ye Wanning said with a cold smile as she looked at Pan Lei. "Steward Li, you don't need to go over there." With that, Ye Wanning walked towards Pan Lei.
"Heh! What's wrong, scared now?" Pan Lei looked at Ye Wanning with disdain in his eyes.
"Slap!" Ye Wanning walked up to Pan Lei and slapped him across the face. "This is the Prince Jin's residence! There is no Crown Prince here!" She then immediately turned back to her seat. "Butler Li, drag this dog out!"
"yes."
Pan Lei covered his face blankly, seemingly unaware of what had just happened, and was carried out by Butler Li and other subordinates.
Watching Pan Lei's retreating figure, Ye Wanning frowned deeply, then scanned the people present. "How many more people are like Pan Lei? Come out here! In the Prince Jin's mansion, you only have one master! That master is the Prince!"
Ye Wanning's slap just now seemed to have woken up many people. After all, they were just servants, and there were still masters in this mansion!
Looking at the silent crowd, Ye Wanning nodded in satisfaction. "If no one speaks up, does that mean you all agree with what I said?" She tapped the table. "Alright, then let's start implementing these new family rules from today. I will gradually add more detailed requirements later."
"yes."
Ye Wanning waved her hand, "Everyone, disperse."
A short while after the person left, Butler Li returned to the main hall, only to find Ye Wanning slumped over the table, lost in thought. He walked over and patted her shoulder. "Your Highness, the person has been sent away..."
Ye Wanning straightened up, thought for a moment, and asked, "Steward Li, how many people like Pan Lei are there in this Prince's Mansion?"
Butler Li sighed, "I'm afraid there are quite a few. The Crown Prince and his men often find excuses to send people to the Prince's residence, and I can't very well turn them away. It makes the Prince's residence a mess, and the Prince has been bullied quite a bit. But now that the Princess has set such a show of authority, things have gotten a lot better."
"Is that so?" Ye Wanning narrowed her eyes. It seemed that the Crown Prince did not trust Prince Jin. "It's alright. Sooner or later, those with ulterior motives will be exposed."
Butler Li nodded. "It's because the Princess has such courage that this old servant could not do it."
Praised like that, Ye Wanning smiled, but then she suddenly remembered the awkwardness of her wedding night, and her face darkened, her tone becoming stiff. "Oh, right, I'll have to trouble the steward to take me to see the household accounts."
Steward Li was somewhat flustered by Ye Wanning's obvious change in attitude. He thought she suspected him of stealing money from the manor, and he repeatedly explained, "Your Highness, please don't misunderstand. Although I am the steward, I have never embezzled a single penny from the manor."
Ye Wanning was taken aback, then coughed twice, feeling a little embarrassed. Perhaps she was holding a grudge too much. She wondered what was wrong with the steward… that day… sigh… Ye Wanning sighed again. Well, the steward was rather pitiful; she should forgive him. Thinking this, Ye Wanning felt much better. She turned to Steward Li with a smile and said, “Steward Li, you’re overthinking it. I just wanted to check on the situation in the manor.”
Having witnessed Ye Wanning's ability to change her mind faster than flipping through a book once again, Butler Li felt he couldn't bear the huge difference. He raised his hand to catch his breath and said after a while, "Alright, of course the Princess should go and see. The situation in the manor has not been good lately, and I was just worrying about it. With the Princess here, there will be someone to discuss things with."
Ye Wanning nodded. She had just seen Butler Li's little tricks. Since it was her fault, she couldn't say anything. However, Ye Wanning frowned. Was she really that scary?
Beside her, Cui'er silently watched Steward Li and couldn't help but sigh softly. Poor Steward Li, you probably understand how I feel now. It's not easy to serve a master who likes to change his expression!
