Chapter 8 The Cold-Faced God is Here, Still So Tasteless!
Hagiwara Kenji was panicked.
He is a very observant person who can easily judge a person's emotions and thus determine what kind of person the other person is.
Over the course of two years, Takanashi Chika's profile was updated again and again, making him increasingly hesitant to open up to her.
Kind, gentle, and passionate.
Cold-blooded, rational, and vigilant.
It was a rational, even ruthless, form of self-defense.
These traits, though seemingly contradictory, found a unique harmony in Chinatsu Takanashi, which Kenji Hagiwara clearly understood.
No, Hagiwara.
Don't ask China for help, and don't bring up the past with her, otherwise you'll only get hurt by her prickly personality. She'll curl up into a ball and use her quills to repel everything.
Can……
It's been two years.
Kenji Hagiwara never imagined that a person could still be conscious after death. What was worse than being conscious after death was that he was confined to this small place, only able to wander within a radius of less than ten meters of the explosion site, barely able to get close enough to watch TV in Chinatsu Takanashi's living room.
He can't go downstairs, he can't leave this place, no one can hear him speak, and no one can see him.
He is still in this world, but in reality, he is separated from the entire world by an impenetrable wall.
A year before meeting Chinatsu Takanashi, Kenji Hagiwara was on the verge of a breakdown. Chinatsu Takanashi's appearance temporarily calmed him down. However, after two years of getting along, their relationship remained lukewarm. Finally, his emotional and impulsive side triumphed over his rationality today.
He wanted to go further.
He wanted to open his heart to Chinatsu Takanashi and become her true friend.
He also wanted to know how his parents and sister were doing, and how Xiaozhenping was doing.
Takanashi Chinatsu is his only connection to this world he has left, so even though he knows it's impossible, Hagiwara Kenji still risks his life to fight for it.
He's already died once, what wouldn't he dare to do?
But……
You will regret it, you will be afraid.
The calmer Takanashi Chinatsu appeared, the more Hagiwara Kenji realized how troublesome things were.
A nameless fear swept over him, making him feel dizzy and as if he were being sucked into a bottomless abyss.
No matter what, he had to try. Whether Takanashi Chika came up with an exorcist or with a cold face, as long as she came back, Hagiwara Kenji would do everything he could to win her back.
He still has attachment to this world; he doesn't want to leave it yet.
"Click," the door opened.
Kenji Hagiwara's breath hitched. The last rays of the setting sun were absorbed by the other's silver hair, and a strange chill filled the air, making even the demon Kenji Hagiwara shiver.
The sun has set, and the sky has lost its last glimmer of light.
The streetlights came on, forming a white circle on the ground. The light enveloped half of the car and shone on Chinatsu Takanashi as she got out, making her blonde hair glow like platinum.
Inside the car, Matsuda Jinpei did not get out for a long time.
The car window was half open, and even though it was night, he was still wearing those dark sunglasses, the square frames pointing directly at a window on a high-rise building.
His eyes behind the sunglasses narrowed, as if he had been stung by something.
This is where Hagi sacrificed himself.
Matsuda Jinpei's hands trembled slightly on the steering wheel, then he gripped it tightly. He didn't want to admit that he had PTSD about this place, but he hadn't been here since Hagiwara Kenji died, and he would instinctively avoid this place even if his destination was on this road.
hagi……
He and Hagi grew up together, spending all their school years together, taking things apart and putting them back together, and even applying to police academy together, where they both entered the explosives disposal class.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Morning, afternoon, and evening.
They are always together.
They would even sleep together, and after starting work, they would share an apartment to save money. During their holidays, they would study bomb models until the parts were scattered everywhere and the room was a complete mess.
They are like half of each other's lives; even if they marry and have children in the future, they will always be inseparable.
But after the explosion three years ago, Hagi left him forever. It was as if a piece of his soul had been forcibly torn off, and it has not been fully repaired to this day, and probably never will be.
A breeze blew in through the car window. It was a spring breeze, but Matsuda Jinpei still shivered, his thin lips pressed tightly together and distorted.
"Matsuda-nii, what's wrong?"
Matsuda Jinpei snapped out of his daze, his voice a little hoarse: "You... live here?"
"Yes, Matsuda-nii, would you like to come upstairs for a bit?" Takanashi Chinatsu wasn't worried about the room being haunted. Ghosts weren't that scary. Hagiwara Kenji couldn't even touch anyone, let alone hurt them.
Matsuda Jinpei stared blankly, "Go upstairs...?"
Perhaps he really should go up and sit down.
It's been three years. Hagi has been gone for three years. He can't keep going around in circles. He has to face his fears. Hagi must not become his shadow.
Matsuda Jinpei opened his mouth as if to agree, but Takanashi Chinatsu grabbed his hand.
"I've been thinking about it, but I think we should do it next time. It's getting late." Takanashi Chinatsu's little finger brushed against the ceramic bracelet on Matsuda Jinpei's hand. She snapped out of her reverie. If she wore this bracelet, Hagiwara Kenji would probably get hurt.
"Okay, then next time. Get some rest." Avoidance is easier and more straightforward than facing it.
After finishing his sentence, Matsuda Jinpei turned the car around and quickly drove away.
Takanashi Chinatsu didn't notice anything amiss and quickly went upstairs, where she encountered a nervous-looking Hagiwara Kenji outside the door.
"Chinatsu-chan, run! That cold-faced god is here again!" Hagiwara Ken was dancing with joy. If he could have avoided Takanashi Chinatsu, he would have dragged her away by the arm.
Cold-faced god? Takanashi Chinatsu was stunned for a moment, then avoided Hagiwara Kenji and opened the door to go in, ignoring his nervous attempts to stop her.
As expected, it was Gin.
The room was dark, and the cold moonlight shone in through the window. Gin occupied the center of the sofa, and the TV was still on, playing a melodramatic soap opera with the lyrics "I love you, you love him, he loves me." The screen's glow fell on his face, making his already pale face appear even paler.
With a "click," Chinatsu Takanashi turned on the light.
"Are you out of your mind? Why don't you turn on the lights at night!" Takanashi Chinatsu took off her coat and hung it on the hanger, leaving her wearing only a soft, light blue shirt.
Gin chuckled, his gaze sweeping over the television program. A mocking glint flashed in his dark green eyes, and he retorted even more rudely, "Are you out of your mind? If you were, you wouldn't put a TV in an empty room."
Chinatsu Takanashi glanced at Kenji Hagiwara instinctively.
Kenji Hagiwara surrendered with both hands raised, smiling sheepishly.
"What's there?" Gin immediately noticed and quickly walked towards where Takanashi Chinatsu was looking.
Kenji Hagiwara quickly dodged.
Even with Gin's keen observation skills, he couldn't see any ghosts at all and found nothing.
"There are mice." Takanashi Chinatsu deliberately teased him, "I have seven or eight mice hiding in my house, what? Captain Rat Catcher, don't you want to investigate?"
Kenji Hagiwara looked at Gin curiously. "The Rat-Catching Captain? This fierce-looking man actually runs a rat-catching company?"
Gin, deliberately mocked by Takanashi Chika, looked away, his eyes glancing at the scene of two men and a woman struggling and crying in a soap opera. He couldn't help but quip, "Still so tasteless."
A note from the author:
----------------------
Hagiwara Kenji disagrees!
Although Hagi didn't see Kojinpei, she did see Chinatsu's "ex-boyfriend"!
He absolutely loves Gin!
