Chapter 28 Crying solves nothing, get some rest.
Matsuda Jinpei felt very uncomfortable staying overnight at a girl's house for the first time.
No, to be precise, he wasn't planning to stay overnight at the girl's house; he just had too much to say and they talked too late, and before he knew it, it was already this late.
It's been a long time since Matsuda Jinpei and Hagiwara Kenji have seen each other. Although they won't be able to meet this time, they can still exchange a few words through Takanashi Chinatsu.
It's perfectly normal for childhood friends who haven't seen each other in a long time to lose track of time when they start chatting.
Until the knocking sounded...
Kenji Hagiwara quickly floated out to take a peek, then pulled his head back in and yelled in terror, "Oh no, Chinatsu-chan, that cold-faced god is here!"
Gin!
Chika Takanashi was so startled that she jumped up from the sofa.
"What's wrong?" Matsuda Jinpei asked, puzzled.
"Matsuda-nii, you need to hide!" Takanashi Chinatsu hurriedly pulled Matsuda Jinpei to find a place to hide.
Matsuda Jinpei was completely puzzled, but after glancing at the sky, it dawned on him: "Your boyfriend?"
"No, anyway, you should hide first!" Takanashi Chinatsu gritted her teeth, pulled Matsuda Jinpei into her bedroom, and shoved him directly into the closet.
"Wait, this isn't right!" Matsuda Jinpei grabbed Takanashi Chinatsu's hand in bewilderment.
Although it was indeed impolite for him to be a guest at a girl's house so late, hiding here would make it look like he was caught cheating. If he were found, wouldn't it be even more difficult to explain?
They are completely innocent!
What could possibly happen between him and Chika? Hagi is watching right there!
Matsuda Jinpei tried to explain: "Chika, I think..."
Takanashi Chinatsu immediately put her finger to her lips, pleading with him anxiously, "Matsuda-nii, please don't talk."
Matsuda Jinpei hesitated for only half a second before the wardrobe door was closed again, sealing him in darkness.
Takanashi Chika breathed a sigh of relief and ran to the door, ready to open it, but Gin got there first and used his key to open the door.
Despite being nervous and feeling guilty, Takanashi Chika takes the initiative.
"Why do you have my keys?" she asked, hands on her hips, looking indignant.
Gin didn't answer, but instead glanced at Chinatsu's room, his gaze immediately sweeping over the three cups on the table.
"Oh no, I forgot to put the cup away!" Kenji Hagiwara wailed.
Takanashi Chika tensed up as Gin walked past her, his fingers lightly touching the rim of his glass.
"Wen, where is he?" Gin coldly scanned the area.
"Who's there? Nobody's here! Can't I drink three cups of water by myself?" Takanashi Chinatsu said fiercely, her face as fierce as a frightened bird with every feather standing on end.
Gin glanced at her coolly and walked towards the kitchen.
Chinatsuka Takanashi quickly caught up, grumbling behind him, "Were you even listening to me? How did you get my room key? Are you up to no good?"
The kitchen is not used often, and the items are arranged simply and clearly, making it impossible to hide anyone.
Gin went to the guest room again, but still couldn't find anyone.
Finally, Gin shifted his gaze to Takanashi Chinatsu's bedroom, his expression even more somber than when he entered.
He quickened his pace, but was stopped by Chinatsu Takanashi before he could enter the bedroom.
"Is it appropriate to go into a girl's bedroom so late at night?" Takanashi Chika leaned against one door frame and put her right leg across the other door frame, blocking Gin's path.
Gin stared intently at Chinatsu Kotori with his green eyes, his voice mocking: "You know it's inappropriate?"
"Of course it's inappropriate!"
"Takanashi, don't you have anything to say to me?"
"Yes, get out now. You're not welcome here!"
Gin sneered, slapped her leg, and forced his way in.
Chinatsu Takanashi nearly stumbled and fell, then quickly chased after Gin and grabbed him around the waist, trying with all her might to drag him outside: "Don't mess around here! Get out, get out!"
Gin didn't stop walking, dragging someone along without any difficulty, and soon he reached the wardrobe and grabbed the door handle.
"Oh no, Kojinpei!" Kenji Hagiwara was pacing anxiously.
Gin couldn't hear the ghost's voice; he just sneered and then pulled hard.
It wasn't pulled open.
Chinatsu suddenly lunged at the cabinet door, using all her strength to resist Gin's pulling, causing the wardrobe to slam against the wall with a loud thud.
"Are you a pervert? How could you want to look at a girl's clothes!" Takanashi Chinatsu's eyes were accusing, both aggrieved and timid, as if she had really encountered a pervert.
Gin remained unmoved and coldly said, "Get out of the way."
"I won't allow it. It's full of my clothes and underwear. What do you want to see?"
"Chika Takanashi, this is your last warning, get out of the way!"
"I don't..." Before she could finish speaking, Takanashi Chinatsu was pulled away by a strong force.
Gin glanced coldly at Takanashi Chika, then abruptly pulled open the wardrobe door.
Chika was so frightened that she closed her eyes, unable to bear to look.
Kenji Hagiwara was also panicked until he saw the clothes inside were crumpled up... Apart from the messy clothes, there seemed to be nothing else.
"Kijinpei is missing!" Kenji Hagiwara exclaimed, his voice filled with surprise.
Chinatsu Takanashi immediately opened her eyes, quickly glanced at the wardrobe, and breathed a sigh of relief. She grabbed a bra and shoved it in Gin's face: "Are you happy now? Are my clothes interesting? You pervert, are you trying to steal a few to take home?"
Gin's face turned pale and then red, but he didn't stop there. His gaze swept over every corner of Takanashi Chinatsu's room like a scanner.
Takanashi Chinatsu, worried that he would discover Matsuda Jinpei, grabbed his collar, forcing him to focus his gaze on her.
"What are you doing here today? Looking around everywhere, and even rummaging through my wardrobe. Do you believe I'll tell the master?"
Gin withdrew his gaze and said coldly, "Don't think that the master will always indulge you."
"Of course the master will indulge me, but he indulges me but not you. You need to look for the reason within yourself. Did you do something unpleasant again?" Takanashi Chinatsu slammed her hand on the wardrobe door, arrogantly provoking him.
Kenji Hagiwara, taking advantage of the fact that no one could see him, was even bolder than Gin in his search, muttering to himself as he searched, "Where did Jinpei go? Where could he have gone?"
Chinatsu Takanashi was also concerned about this issue, so while confronting Gin, she secretly listened to what Kenji Hagiwara was saying.
With a soft click, the brass-plated kerosene lighter produced a small flame, igniting the cigarette that Gin was holding in his mouth.
Chizuru Takanashi frowned, but did not reach out to extinguish it as she had done before.
"You're feeling guilty." Gin raised his eyes, his green eyes seemingly seeing right through Takanashi Chinatsu.
Chinatsu's heart sank, but she quickly retorted, baring her teeth and brandishing her claws: "What are you feeling guilty about? How dare you smoke in my room! You've never smoked in front of me before!"
“You’ve never brought a cop to me before.”
"What police? I don't understand!" Takanashi Chinatsu crossed her arms and pretended to be angry, but then heard Hagiwara Kenji let out a shrill scream.
"Xiao Zhenping—"
Something's happened!
Takanashi Chika subconsciously took half a step toward the window, but then stopped herself abruptly to avoid arousing Gin's suspicion.
At the window, Kenji Hagiwara anxiously looked down, while Jinpei Matsuda hung in mid-air, struggling to stay upright by gripping the windowsill with his hands.
"Chika, Jinpei is here, he's about to collapse!" Kenji Hagiwara quickly called for help from Chika Takanashi.
Takanashi Chika was equally anxious, and a puff of smoke in her face abruptly interrupted her thoughts.
"Cough, cough!" She coughed twice, glaring angrily at Gin.
“Focus, Chika.” Gin held a cigarette between his right fingers and pressed his left hand firmly on her shoulder, gesturing for her to look at him. “Think about your environment, the people you’re around, and that man’s special attention to you. For your own sake, and for that cop’s sake, you know what to do.”
"I told you, I didn't..."
Gin scoffed, looking at her with a mocking gaze.
Takanashi Chinatsu pursed her lips, somewhat anxious about Matsuda-nii's condition, and spoke again, even more rudely: "I need to rest, can you just get lost!"
Gin remained unmoved, even deliberately taking a few steps towards the window, leaning against it, and slowly exhaling a smoke ring with a pleased expression on his face.
He knows!
Gin found out!
A sudden alarm went off in Chizuru Takanashi's mind; her limbs turned ice-cold, and her hands and feet went limp.
What should we do? If Gin finds out, Matsuda will...
If Gin were to bring Matsuda up now, he would definitely kill him.
If Matsuda isn't pulled up, Gin will just keep leaning there until Matsuda accidentally falls off the building.
He wants Matsuda dead; Gin wants to watch Matsuda die!
Takanashi Chika was so anxious she was almost in tears. She knew Gin wouldn't let Matsuda go; he always hated the police and was the organization's top killer, feared by everyone.
Her eyes slowly reddened, and her body began to tremble slightly. Her tearful eyes were filled with fear and despair.
Gin once killed her adoptive father without mercy, and he certainly won't show any mercy now. He has always been ruthless towards the police.
What to do... what to do...
"Tsk~" Gin stubbed out his cigarette.
Gin casually tossed his extinguished cigarette butt to the ground, then stretched out his hand to Takanashi Chinatsu and commanded, "Come here."
Chika took two steps toward Gin, bewildered, then stopped in alarm.
Gin took the opportunity to grab her arm and pull her into his arms, even feeling her body tremble slightly.
"You're so useless, Chika. How did I teach you before?" Gin hugged her tightly with one arm, while gently wiping away the tears that welled up in her eyes with his fingertips with the other.
Crying solves nothing; if you want to protect those around you, you need to be strong enough.
"Crying won't solve anything. If you want to protect the people around you, you have to be strong enough."
Gin's words overlapped with his voice from six years ago; the same words appeared when Takanashi Chinatsu was at her most helpless.
This time, however, Gin didn't draw his gun on Matsuda Jinpei outside the window. Instead, he retaliated by vigorously rubbing Takanashi Chinatsu's head and letting her go.
"Get some rest," Gin gently reminded him before leaving.
