When Master Jiang saw Jiang Meilian fall into the lotus pond, he was a little worried, but he decided to rescue his daughter first. So he called two servants, both of whom were martial arts masters. They used their Qinggong skills to fly above the lotus pond, and then reached out and lifted Jiang Meilian out of the water.
Everyone gathered around and saw that Jiang Meilian's body and face were completely ulcerated and oozing with festering flesh. She was bent over on the ground, howling in agony, "Ah... Ah!" Her voice was so miserable that it made people's hair stand on end.
The housekeeper quickly went to find the court physician, who came forward to carefully examine Jiang Meilian's condition, then shook his head and said to Master Jiang and Madam Jiang, "Master, Madam, I'm afraid the second young lady's appearance has been ruined!"
"What? It's a perfectly good lotus pond. Even if someone accidentally fell in, they'd only catch a cold. How could they be disfigured? Come on, check the lotus pond thoroughly!"
The servant took the palace doctor to the lotus pond for a look, then turned and said to Master Jiang, "Master, I'm afraid someone has tampered with the lotus pond and the water is poisonous!"
"This is outrageous! I am hosting a Hundred Flowers Banquet today. Who has the guts to murder someone? Steward Zhu, this matter must be thoroughly investigated!" Taifu Jiang said sternly.
"Yes, sir," Butler Zhu replied, and then turned around to check.
Upon hearing the news, Jiang Meilian suddenly hugged her head and screamed at the top of her lungs: "Ah..." Her screams made everyone feel a chill, as if they could penetrate people's souls.
Just like that, the Hundred Flowers Banquet had to end prematurely due to Jiang Meilian's accident. After seeing off all the guests, Grand Tutor Jiang returned to his room with a heavy heart. He and Madam Jiang were both filled with sorrow, unsure how to deal with this sudden change.
At the same time, the happy person was none other than Jiang Meiyu. At that moment, she was lying leisurely on her bed, legs crossed, humming a light and cheerful tune, a smug smile on her face, and she looked exceptionally comfortable and content.
At this moment, Prince Gong suddenly appeared beside the bed. Seeing the smile on Jiang Meiyu's face, the corners of his mouth also rose slightly. He slowly walked to Jiang Meiyu and sat down, and asked softly: "Yu'er, why are you so happy?"
Jiang Meiyu was startled and sat up suddenly. She stared at Prince Gong with wide eyes and said angrily, "Your Highness, you scared me to death. Why did you come into my room in broad daylight?" As she said this, she rolled her eyes.
Prince Gong smiled and said, "Is Yu'er reminding me that I should come at night?" There was a hint of teasing in his tone.
Jiang Meiyu pouted and said coquettishly, "Go away, Your Highness, you are so shameless..."
Prince Gong smiled gently, gently held Jiang Meiyu's hand, and said seriously: "Yu'er, you really impressed me today. You are not only brave, but also smart and resourceful, and you know how to protect yourself. I admire you very much, and I will protect you better in the future."
Jiang Meiyu felt a surge of warmth in her heart as she listened to Prince Gong's sincere and affectionate words. She knew that although Prince Gong sometimes seemed cold and heartless, his feelings for her were genuine. Thinking of this, a shy blush unconsciously appeared on her face.
"Although the emperor has already granted us marriage, I still have to come to meet Master Jiang tomorrow with the betrothal gifts and discuss the wedding date. It would be best if we get married in these few days, okay?" Prince Gong looked at Jiang Meiyu seriously, his eyes full of expectation and tenderness.
Jiang Meiyu was slightly startled when she heard this, but quickly regained her composure and said softly, "It's all right." She knew in her heart that she had been arranged by the system to marry Prince Gong and bear his children. She didn't have too many expectations or demands for such a marriage, as long as she could complete the mission. Therefore, no matter when she got married, it was the same for her.
Prince Gong felt a sense of disappointment as he watched Jiang Meiyu's calm demeanor. He had assumed she would be like any other woman, full of anticipation and longing for the wedding. However, there was no trace of joy on her face. Undeterred, he reasoned that perhaps Jiang Meiyu was simply introverted and unexpressive. So, he decided to prove his sincerity and love through action, to make her feel his true feelings.
As night fell and the lights came on, Master Jiang and Madam Jiang entered the courtyard where Jiang Meiyu lived. Their steps were light yet filled with a hint of urgency, as if they couldn't wait to see their daughter.
"Yu'er, what are you doing? Mom and Dad are here to see you." Mrs. Jiang asked gently, her voice full of concern. She scanned the room, searching for Jiang Meiyu.
"Mom, Dad, come in quickly, Yu'er is practicing calligraphy." Jiang Meiyu's voice came from the room, crisp and pleasant. Hearing this voice, a gratified smile suddenly appeared on Jiang Taifu's face. He knew that his daughter had always been very diligent and studious.
"Mom, Dad, please sit down. Yu'er will pour you some tea." Jiang Meiyu warmly invited her parents to sit down and quickly walked to the table to prepare tea for them. Mrs. Jiang took Jiang Meiyu's hand, her eyes full of love.
"Stop busying yourself! Dad and Mom are here today to ask you something important," Mrs. Jiang said softly. Jiang Meiyu stopped what she was doing and sat down beside her mother, waiting for her parents' questions.
"Are you satisfied with the emperor's edict?" Mrs. Jiang asked cautiously, as if she was worried that this question would make Jiang Meiyu feel troubled or dissatisfied.
"Mother, of course I'm satisfied." Jiang Meiyu answered without hesitation. Her eyes were firm and bright, without the slightest hesitation.
"But Prince Gong was ill when he was a child, and the imperial physicians said that he would not be able to have children. If you marry him, you will be childless for the rest of your life." Mrs. Jiang looked at Jiang Meiyu worriedly, her tone full of concern and worry.
