Chapter 33 Flattery

Yao Yulin patted her head with a smile, feeling a little surprised. She hadn't left the village for a long time and didn't know that a female county magistrate had come.

Upon hearing this, Zhihua's eyes lit up instantly, filled with admiration. "A female county magistrate! How amazing!! I hope I can be like her someday!"

Zhiyin smiled and said, "We're so good at drawing, we definitely will!"

"Perhaps even more amazing than her!"

"Okay, I'll definitely do my best!"

Zhihua clenched her right hand to encourage herself, her thoughts growing stronger.

Soon, the three of them returned home, chatting and laughing all the way.

Hearing the commotion outside, Zhi Zhaodi's heart skipped a beat. Startled, she quickly and guiltily hid the eggs behind her back.

When she saw that it was Zhiyin and the others, she breathed a sigh of relief. She glared at them and wasn't afraid anymore. She then went back to eating her eggs.

Zhiyin raised an eyebrow at her, but ignored her and went straight into the warm room, gesturing for Yao Yulin and the other to put down the things they had bought.

Then he took out steaming hot buns and handed them to the two of them.

Zhihua's eyes lit up with joy, and she quickly and happily accepted the steamed bun, thanking her sweetly, "Thank you, sister! You're so kind, I haven't had a steamed bun in so long!"

As she spoke, she took a bite, and instantly the delicious soup and meat filling inside the bun burst in her mouth. It was so delicious that she wished she could bite her mouth off.

Dad used to bring them steamed buns occasionally, but they haven't eaten them since he joined the army.

Thinking of their kind and honest father who loved them dearly, Zhihua's eyes dimmed for a moment.

Yao Yulin didn't notice her change. She just looked at the bags and packages while eating her meat bun and asked in confusion, "By the way, Yinyin, how did you have money to buy so many things?"

Zhiyin smiled and said, "I sold the rabbit and the animal skins to get the money."

"Speak," she said, quickly opening the package containing the floral cotton-padded jacket and handing the new clothes to the two of them.

"Quickly check if it fits!"

"Wow...what beautiful clothes! I love drawing them..."

Smelling the unique scent of new clothes emanating from the pink floral cotton-padded jacket, Zhihua was almost moved to tears.

She hadn't worn new clothes in ages; she always patched them up when they got torn, and then wore them again.

She didn't even bother eating the steamed buns; she quickly put them aside and couldn't wait to start trying on the clothes.

Although Yao Yulin's reaction wasn't as exaggerated as Zhihua's, she visibly became happy.

Seemingly remembering something, she complained, "You silly child, why buy clothes? Just buy them for the two of you, I don't need any more clothes!"

That's what she said, but she was so eager to change her clothes that she didn't slow down at all.

Zhiyin didn't care about her mother's tsundere actions; she just found the scene incredibly heartwarming.

However, this heartwarming scene was quickly interrupted by a voice.

It turned out that, without Zhiyin and the others knowing, Zhizhaodi had quietly crept over because they had forgotten to close the door. She was now peering through the crack in the door, her eyes filled with greed and envy as she looked at the new clothes in front of them.

Finally unable to resist, she rubbed her hands together obsequiously and shamelessly asked, "Auntie, what are you doing?"

Wow... is it a new outfit?

"I haven't bought any new clothes in ages, is there any for me?"

Upon hearing this, Yao Yulin froze in embarrassment, unsure how to respond.

Zhiyin frowned, regretting not closing the door properly. She'd let something like this disturb her family's peace and quiet.

Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, Zhi Zhaodi wasn't embarrassed. Her eyes dimmed slightly for a moment before returning to normal. She blinked her sparkling eyes and walked in on her own.

He even started to touch the clothes on his own.

Zhiyin found it extremely offensive to see her asking questions she already knew the answers to, acting pretentious, and being so impolite.

If it were anyone else, especially her cousin who wasn't well-liked by her family, she would definitely help her.

Unfortunately, this person is Zhi Zhaodi, and in essence, she is exactly the same as her aunt and others!

They're the kind of people who won't do anything without a reason, and even at a young age, they're very good at reading people's expressions and treat them like money bags.

Zhiyin didn't hold back and immediately slapped her hand with a cold face, saying, "You don't get any!"

"Go find your own mother if you want!"

"Cousin, I just wanted to touch it, how could you do this to me?"

"Aren't we sisters?"

Zhi Zhaodi looked like she was about to cry, and looked at Yao Yulin with a wronged expression. "Auntie, look at my cousin. I was just curious. How could she treat me like this? My hands are all red from being hit!"

As he spoke, he stretched out his already thin hand in front of Yao Yulin, trying to gain her sympathy.

After all, no matter what she did in the past, Yao Yulin always forgave her.

But Yao Yulin had already lost all patience with Zhao Di after learning that she had not only gloated over their misfortune but also kicked them while they were down when they were forced to kneel in the snow.

Therefore, he merely glanced at her indifferently and said coldly, "These things were bought by my daughter; I have no say in the matter!"

"If she doesn't want you to see it, just don't look, okay?"

"If you hadn't insisted on touching me, I wouldn't have gotten slapped..."

Upon hearing this, Zhi Zhaodi's face turned deathly pale and she was shocked, finding it hard to believe that Yao Yulin would say such cruel things.

A shadow of darkness and resentment flashed in his eyes for a moment.

Ultimately, being young, she couldn't bear such humiliation and ran away in shame and anger.

Her eyes were filled with resentment and dissatisfaction. When she ran outside and saw the little black dog, she couldn't help but kick it twice in anger. "You damn dog, you're blocking my way!"

The little black dog was kicked so hard it kept yelping in pain; it looked so pitiful.

Zhi Zhaodi, however, only felt annoyed. She picked up a stone from the ground and impatiently threw it at him, saying, "You damn dog, it's one thing for others to bully me, but you want to bully me too?"

"Do you really think I'm someone you can manipulate?"

After saying that, as if venting her anger, she kept throwing stones at the little black dog, then glanced discreetly in the direction of Zhiyin, muttering under her breath, "Pah, what's so great about it? It's just a few tattered clothes! Do you really think I care?"

The little black dog yelped in pain as she hit it, then ran towards its confidante as if seeking help.

Zhi Zhaodi seemed to be angered by its actions and smashed it even harder, her face, which was remarkably similar to her aunt's, was full of ferocious malice.

"You bastard, you dare to tattle? You dare to hide? Believe me or not, I'll skin you alive and eat you alive!"

As she thought about it, her eyes brightened, as if she thought it was a great idea.

Looking at the little black dog's thin, small body, its eyes were full of greed, and it couldn't help but lick its lips, its eyes seemingly glowing green.
