"What do you mean? What do you mean by giving you an explanation?"
The old man seemed to sense something was wrong, and his anger vanished completely, causing him to frown.
His eyes were full of confusion as he looked at his confidant.
"You'll have to ask your good wife about that! Ask her what she did. Otherwise, why would I hit her for no reason?"
Zhiyin shook his hand, which had hurt from the slap, and said casually.
Having been each other's bedmate for decades, the old man knew perfectly well that Granny Xu was a gossip. He immediately pushed her away and looked straight at her, asking, "What exactly did you do?"
Upon hearing this, Granny Xu's eyes filled with guilt, which quickly turned into anger. "Oh dear, don't you believe me? How could I possibly do such a thing?"
"Are you still my husband? The most important thing now is to avenge me!"
"That little bitch is so outrageous! You absolutely must get justice for me!"
After saying that, she threw herself into the old man's arms again, looking aggrieved. "Since she dared to treat me like this, how can I face anyone after this? Waaah..."
"It's absolutely outrageous, my husband! You absolutely mustn't let her get away with this!"
Surprisingly, the old man did not immediately cause trouble for his confidant.
Instead, he pulled Granny Xu up again, his face cold and his voice deep, "Wife, tell me straight, what exactly did you do?"
He knew his wife's personality; seeing Zhiyin's angry expression, she didn't seem to be deliberately picking a fight.
Granny Xu seemed frightened by the coldness and cruelty in his voice, but she still refused to admit it, stomping her foot angrily, "Oh dear, don't you believe me? You'd rather believe a brat you don't know than me?"
She covered her face and burst into tears, sobbing, "Waaah... Have you changed your mind? Do you hate me now?"
She thought that if she said that, her husband would coax and comfort her as before, but the old man didn't this time, obviously he had seen through her trick.
His voice remained cold. Seeing Granny Xu's guilty look, he knew there was more to the story. His eyes were filled with disappointment as he shouted, "Xu Fang, aren't you going to tell the truth?"
This was the first time Granny Xu had ever seen her husband so angry, and she was immediately frightened.
Incredulous, and seeing that he wasn't joking at all, as if he wouldn't let it go until he told her, she had no choice but to stammer and awkwardly recount what she had done.
Seeing her husband's face growing darker, Granny Xu quickly added with an awkward laugh, "I...I really didn't mean it, I was just saying it casually!"
"Ha...just saying! It's all over the village now, and you're telling me this is just saying?"
Zhiyin curled her lip in disdain, wanting to smash that stinking mouth of hers.
"Book…"
"Enough!!"
Granny Xu tried to explain herself, but the next second she was startled by the old man's stern rebuke and trembled violently.
She glared at the old man, patting her chest, "You scared me..."
The old man looked at her with a pained expression, shaking his head in disappointment, "Xu Fang, you have truly disappointed me!"
"How old are you? Why are you so petty, arguing with a young girl?"
"And you're spreading these baseless rumors everywhere? Do you know how much harm that does to an unmarried girl?"
He shook his head in disappointment, beginning to wonder if it was right or wrong for him to be so good to her.
He knew she loved to gossip and chatter, but he always thought it was just a woman's nature.
It's not a big deal.
Besides, there had never been such a big commotion before.
He assumed it was just some trivial matter.
I never imagined she could be so vicious!
This is practically trying to kill that young girl!
"Do you even know how difficult things are for Zhiyin's family, a widow and her orphan? And yet you're kicking them while they're down. Are you even human?"
He was truly furious; his hand trembled as he pointed at Granny Xu.
"Husband, are you angry?"
"I really didn't mean to, and it didn't cause much harm, did it?"
Granny Xu felt uneasy and tugged at the old man's sleeve, feeling inexplicably panicked.
However, the old man ignored her pleas and turned to Zhiyin with an apologetic expression, his body seemingly hunching over in an instant. "I'm sorry, child, it's my wife who has wronged you. I apologize on her behalf!"
After he finished speaking, he gritted his teeth and looked at his daughter-in-law, who had been watching him from inside the house, "Eldest daughter-in-law, go and get 200 coins."
"Okay, okay!"
Upon hearing this, his daughter-in-law didn't even ask what the money was for, and immediately went to get it.
But Granny Xu's expression suddenly turned displeased, and she asked with displeasure and suspicion, "You don't mean to give her the money, do you?"
The old man still ignored her, which made Granny Xu furious. She tried to grab his sleeve, but he dodged it, and she missed.
"Father, the money is here!"
Just then, the daughter-in-law, while holding the child, handed 200 copper coins to the old man.
The old man took it and solemnly handed it to Zhiyin, saying, "I'm sorry, it was my wife's fault. She wronged you, and I apologize on her behalf. Consider this money as an apology."
Looking into his sincere but slightly cloudy eyes, and then at Granny Xu, whose expression had become distorted by his actions, Zhiyin couldn't help but sigh, "People are truly different!"
Some women, even if they are bullied by their in-laws and beaten by their husbands every day, are still kind-hearted, good people, and gentle in nature.
Some people have such good husbands, but they don't cherish them and instead cause trouble everywhere. It's unbelievable.
If she manages to ruin such a good husband one day, then she'll have something to cry about.
Zhiyin looked at the silver placed in front of her, smiled, and looked at him with admiration. He was a rare good person who would help those in need rather than his own.
He accepted it without hesitation, saying, "Fine, consider it compensation for my emotional distress!"
"Why should I give her money? She just beat me up! Are you crazy?"
Granny Xu stared wide-eyed in disbelief. "That's money we saved for our grandson's future education! What will happen to him if you give it away now?"
"Shut up! If it weren't for you, would this money have disappeared?"
The old man retorted sharply, clearly furious.
If she hadn't caused trouble, none of this would have happened today.
At the same time, I think the reason she has so much time to spread rumors outside is probably because she's bored.
Starting tomorrow, we absolutely cannot spoil her like before. We must keep her busy and get her to start working in the fields, otherwise what will become of her in the future?
Looking into her husband's eyes, Granny Xu felt a chill run down her spine for some reason, and she was a little scared.
"Child, are you satisfied with this?"
The old man smiled kindly at his confidant.
"Okay, but I have one more request: Granny Xu must personally clarify everything!"
After thinking for a moment, Zhiyin added further.
