Chapter 4 - Psychic Eyes
The pot of dark green thick soup that was still bubbling was no different from a poisonous spring from hell in the eyes of everyone!
Luo Hongyi seemed to have done something insignificant. She bent down and lifted the bottom of the earthenware jar of "black pepper" she had brought with her. A faint glimmer of dark gold could be seen. With her other hand, she took the white deer who was happily licking the candy man.
"Let's go, Xiaolu, let's go back and try the new soup recipe." She said lazily, holding the girl's hand, stepping on the clean ground next to the Red Fire Sect monk who was twitching in pain, and walked through the silent crowd as if strolling in the garden, heading deeper into the Burial God Abyss, towards the Guixu Sect.
All that was left behind was a mess, the dying Red Fire Sect monks, and countless terrified eyes in the market that were almost suffocating.
The strange aroma of that pot of "Baiwei Tixian Soup", mixed with the pungent smell of vomit and venom corrosion, lingered in the dim market for a long time, becoming an indelible mark of horror in the hearts of all witnesses.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the old clay pot of "black pepper" that Luo Hongyi casually held contained an ancient and hidden wave from the depths of the God Burial Abyss. Covered by rough clay, like the Guixu Sect itself, it remained hidden, yet quietly shifted its course.
Deep in the God Burial Abyss where the rain was pouring down, two figures were walking along a rugged path.
Luo Hongyi held the old clay pot of "black pepper" in one hand and held Bai Xiaolu's hand in the other. Bai Xiaolu tightly grasped the golden little sugar man in his other hand, completely ignoring the bone-chilling rain and the dead silence around him.
"Brother, let's come back next time and buy some candy." Bai Xiaolu's voice was soft and sweet, "It's crisper than evil spirit crystals and sweeter than black iron door panels!"
"Yeah." Luo Hongyi responded, thinking that her calm junior sister had been acting strangely since a while ago. How cute!
His gaze swept across the increasingly dense, sinister rain curtain ahead, and his brows furrowed slightly. The faint yet persistent vibrations from the old clay pot at his waist seemed even clearer than before, carrying an indescribable, ancient rhythm that stood out against the dead silence of the God Burial Abyss.
Just then—
"ah--!!!"
A girl's shrill, out-of-tune scream, like the cry of a baby bird with its neck strangled, suddenly tore through the curtain of howling rain and came from the cliff not far above their heads!
Luo Hongyi paused, and Bai Xiaolu also raised his head curiously.
The dark red sky above, like a shattered mirror, suddenly cracked a narrow fissure! Violent spatial turbulence gushed out from the fissure like invisible blades! A petite figure in a goose-yellow robe, like a rag doll torn by a tremendous force, tumbled straight down from the fissure! Her robes shimmered with light, clearly shattered, and her hair was whipped wildly by the gale.
It was Su Tang. Her face was filled with extreme fear and despair. Her small body rolled helplessly in the violent gale and bone-eroding rain, crashing straight into the abyss below!
"Oh! Someone fell down!" Bai Xiaolu opened his eyes wide in surprise, his tone nervous.
Luo Hongyi's reaction was calm. She didn't even raise her head to glance at the rapidly falling figure. She simply casually extended a hand at the moment when the girl was about to brush against the rock wall and fall into the endless darkness below.
That hand, slender, white, with neatly trimmed nails, was now clamped on Su Tang's rapidly falling waist with incredible precision, like a pair of pliers!
The immense force of the impact caused Luo Hongyi's arm to sink slightly, and the charred rock beneath her feet cracked softly under the weight. But that was all. The fall, which would have shattered an ordinary cultivator, was abruptly halted by her seemingly casual grab!
Su Tang's screams as she fell suddenly ceased, replaced by a muffled groan from a side-splitting blow. The immense fear and the bewilderment of having survived the catastrophe had left her mind blank. She could only hang stiffly in mid-air, like a kitten being held by the scruff of the neck, her face as pale as paper.
Luo Hongyi carried her like a piece of light luggage. She even had the leisure to weigh her for a moment, then tilted her head slightly to comment to Bai Xiaolu, who was looking up at her, "She's a bit thin, and her bones are light and fluttery. She won't make any soup with it."
The little white deer tilted its head, looked at the "ingredients" falling from the sky with curiosity, and sniffed subconsciously.
Su Tang's already frightened body felt even more frozen when she heard this! Stew... stew?! She stared in horror at the gorgeous yet eerie woman before her, then at the pretty, lovely girl beside her, whose eyes shone with calmness. A chill ran from the soles of her feet to the top of her head! She'd just escaped the tiger's den, only to find herself in a wolf's den again?!
Luo Hongyi ignored her, holding Su Tang in one hand and Bai Xiaolu firmly in the other, and continued to walk up the steep rock face. Her steps were still steady, as if holding a living person in her hands was no different from holding a bundle of firewood.
Su Tang was held rigidly like a quail, its throat strangled by fate. The cold rain lashed her face, and a mixture of cold sweat and humiliating tears flowed down her face. She didn't dare struggle, let alone make a sound. She could only observe with horror the "horrifying existence" holding her with her psychic eyes.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t look at it, but when you see it, Su Tang almost loses her soul!
In the psychic's vision, this seemingly innocuous, plain-clothed woman was enveloped in a faint yet terrifying, iridescent mist! Composed of countless extremely tiny, bizarrely colored particles, the mist constantly seeped into and eroded the surrounding space! Even the violent evil spirits, when they came within a certain range of her body, seemed to encounter their natural enemy, silently disintegrating and annihilating! This wasn't some kind of cook! This was clearly a self-contained, self-propelled source of deadly poison! Even a Nascent Soul cultivator would be instantly annihilated if touched!
And from the inconspicuous old clay pot on her waist, there were faint wisps of dark golden ancient light, which was in sync with the vibration of the clay pot itself, emitting a sealed aura that made Su Tang's psychic eyes feel stinging and wanted to close it instinctively!
What made Su Tang's scalp tingle even more was that girl! In her psychic eyes, she wasn't a flesh and blood body at all, but a shadowy figure like an ancient beast! Occasionally, a crimson light flashed through the void, like the eyes of a sleeping beast opening, carrying a ferocious hunger from the ancient past! And what was this golden light? This was the legendary Child of Fortune.
Su Tang's blood ran cold with fear! Her psychic eyes flickered wildly, practically overloaded! What did she see?! A walking extinction zone! A place with a monster inside and a golden glow on the outside! What kind of devil had she fallen into?!
Just when Su Tang was frightened by what she saw with her psychic eyes and was about to faint, Luo Hongyi had already picked her up and led Bai Xiaolu to the gate of Guixu Sect, which was as dilapidated as ruins.
"Ouch! My waist! My elbow! My bolero!"
The screams of a pig being slaughtered instantly rushed into Su Tang's ears.
On the muddy open space in front of the mountain gate, the "Qi Refining Rookie" (Xie Zhao) with a vast golden sea of talismans surging in his body was being grabbed by the wrist with one hand by the cold-faced evil star (Chu Linyuan) who was surrounded by a heart-pounding dark evil spirit and disguised as a foundation-building trash. The whole person was almost hanging in the air, covering his non-existent wound and crying loudly.
"Brother! Be gentle! My Qi Refining Stage body can't withstand your Dragon Claw Hand! It's broken! I need compensation! Mental damages! Medical expenses! Lost work wages! And the cost of the materials for my Warm Sun Talisman that you froze to pieces!"
Chu Linyuan didn't even frown, and his arms loosened.
Xie Zhao was thrown down like garbage and fell right next to Su Tang, splashing mud and water.
Su Tang was casually thrown into the muddy water by Luo Hongyi. Her butt hurt, but she didn't care to cry out in pain. Her psychic eyes scanned everything in front of her in horror:
The dormant ancient ferocious dragon-like power in Chu Linyuan's body, the wriggling dark golden dragon pattern on his right arm, and the gorgeous and tough chain of rosy light connecting him and Xie Zhao!
The vast and boundless golden sea of runes inside Xie Zhao's body!
The deadly colorful poisonous fog surrounded Luo Hongyi!
And this freak that looks like a white deer!
And the towering figure (Iron Ox) approached, carrying a massive basket—the earth hummed with every step he took! The basket was filled with dark red, sinister crystals emitting terrifying fluctuations! Above him, a cluster of small, gray mushrooms loomed beneath the aura of savage power!
"Hoo... Hoo..." Su Tang's throat uttered a meaningless gasp, her small body trembling violently from the immense cognitive shock. Her gaze glazed over the dilapidated sect—the ramshackle hut, the half-collapsed wall, the weed-covered training ground...
"Acting...acting?" Su Tang's voice was shrill and thin, filled with absurdity and collapse. She pointed at the group of people in front of her, her fingers shaking like leaves in the wind. "You...you call this 'acting'?!"
She pointed at Xie Zhao suddenly: "There is a flowing galaxy of talismans in your body! It is vast and boundless! Qi Refining Stage? You must be kidding!" She pointed at Luo Hongyi: "You are surrounded by poisonous mist, colorful and weird! Any Nascent Soul will be dissolved if it touches you! Cook?!" She pointed at Tie Niu: "What you are carrying are not wild vegetables! They are evil spirit crystals! Each piece can kill people! And you!" She pointed in the direction where Chu Linyuan disappeared (Chu Linyuan had already walked towards the main hall), "Kicked the half-man-high evil rock to pieces! Foundation Establishment trash?! And her!" She pointed at Bai Xiaolu, "She is not human at all! There is a monster in her body! A monster!" Finally, she pointed at the place where she was just thrown away, and remembered Luo Hongyi's words "the stewed soup has no flavor", and she was extremely sad and angry: "You still want to stew me?!"
Su Tang gasped, her face flushed red with excitement and fear, and she finally couldn't hold back her tears. "This lousy place... this lousy place is no place for human beings! You are all monsters! Best actor! Big liar! Everybody is a Best actor! Wuuuuuu... Let me go! I want to go home!"
She broke down and burst into tears, then sat back down in the mud and cried her heart out.
The "pain" on Xie Zhao's face disappeared instantly, and his peach blossom eyes sparkled with interest. He produced a piece of talisman paper and handed it to Su Tang. "What a good material! Stay in the sect and let it shine."
Luo Hongyi raised an eyebrow and weighed the soup spoon in her hand. Tie Niu scratched his head in confusion: "I...I really am a farmer..." Bai Xiaolu tilted his head, staring at the crying Su Tang, and muttered softly: "Black hole? What is that?"
In the corner, the Moon-Eating Rabbit was gnawing on a half-burnt door frame with satisfaction, making a crisp "crunching" sound.
In the dilapidated sect, the rain was pouring down, and the new "ingredient" Su Tang's crying and collapse became the only background sound.
