"Tong Liu, you should stay in the neighborhood tomorrow night, then you should be safe," I said to Tong Liu.
"And what about you?" Tong Liu asked me in return.
"I can't leave; I have to stay here," I said in a low voice. I had already promised the owner of the courier station, and if I broke my promise, I might lose my job.
Besides, I probably won't live past my 24th birthday, so I'm not too bothered by it. But it's different for Bucket Six. He's my only two good brothers, and I don't want him to get involved and face danger.
"No, you can't stay here," Tong Liu said loudly, his face leaving no room for argument.
"I've already talked to the boss, I'm going to stay here until Old Li comes back to work," I said earnestly and firmly.
“Then I’ll come and join you,” Tong Liu said resolutely.
“Hey, Changming, my dad’s coming back tomorrow. He’ll definitely be able to take care of her,” Hu Tudao suddenly interjected, looking very serious.
"Hmph, you said you were fine at first, but in the end, you were so scared that you wet your pants. Did you drain all your bone fat under the banyan tree yesterday afternoon, which is why you became a coward?" Tong Liu sneered and pointed at Hu Tudao, cursing.
Hu Tudao's pale face suddenly turned red, and he lowered his head in embarrassment, too embarrassed to continue talking to Tong Liu.
Looking at Hu Tudao, I felt both annoyed and amused, but then I thought of his father, Hu Ergou, and asked, "Hu Tudao, can your father really handle that dirty thing?"
Hu Ergou's abilities are widely acknowledged in several surrounding villages. If he can really send the little girl away, then I can say that I have something on my mind.
"Brother Changming, really, my dad is really amazing. I admit I'm not very skilled, but if my dad helps, he can definitely do it." Hu Tudao suddenly raised his head and said with a serious expression.
“Okay, then call your dad over tonight. I’ll cover the cost.” I took a red envelope out of my pocket, handed it to Hu Tudao, and said, “This is the red envelope you’re giving me this time.”
"Brother Changming, no need. I've already messed things up, how could I possibly accept your red envelope? Don't worry, I'll bring my dad over tonight and deal with her." Hu Tudao glanced at the red envelope, then waved his hand and said.
"Take it. Even though it wasn't done well, you still put in the effort." I stuffed the red envelope directly into Hu Tudao's pocket and said, "Tell your dad tonight that if possible, send that little girl away and don't hurt her."
"Yes." Hu Tudao nodded vigorously, a smile appearing on his face.
"Look at your behavior!" Tong Liu cursed, turning his head to the side, clearly not wanting to see Hu Tudao.
"Changming, what do we do now?" Tong Liu looked around and asked.
"Why don't we go back to my place first? It's almost dawn, and that thing probably won't dare to come out anymore, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten away so easily." I glanced at my watch; it would be dawn in half an hour. It would be better to go back to the cabin. Besides, Hu Tudao's entire pants were wet and smelled strongly of urine.
My pants are soaked too. I'll go back and change my clothes and wait until it's light.
"Okay." Tong Liu nodded.
A short while later, the three of us returned to the cabin.
Hu Tudao took the pants, not daring to go to the toilet to change alone, and wanted to change them right there in the room.
Seeing this, I quickly raised my hand to stop him and said, "Let's go, I need to change my pants too."
Hu Tudao glanced at my pants, nodded somewhat awkwardly, and said in a low voice, "Okay."
I took Hu Tudao to the toilet. While changing my pants, I also took a cold shower. Although the weather was hot, the morning water was still a bit icy.
I changed my clothes and came out, only to find Hu Tudao already waiting at the door, while Tong Liu had also arrived at the toilet at some point.
I opened my mouth, about to speak.
Tong Liu spoke first, "I need to pee, I need to go to the toilet."
I nodded, guessing that Tong Liu was afraid of being alone in the small house, but he was too embarrassed to say that he was scared. Of course, I couldn't ask him about it, otherwise Tong Liu would probably be extremely embarrassed.
The three of us went back to the room. It was still dark, and the lights were on.
"Hu Tudao, tell me honestly, do you even know how to catch ghosts?" Tong Liu didn't dare to be nice to Hu Tudao, so he lightly kicked him and asked.
"Sixth Brother, I..." Hu Tudao wanted to say something, but seeing Tong Liu's fierce expression, he shrank back and whispered, "I may not be skilled enough yet."
"Damn it, I knew you were a braggart. You almost got us killed," Tong Liu kicked Hu Tu again and cursed.
Seeing this, I stood between Tong Liu and Hu Tudao and asked Hu Tudao, "Did Ma Jiajie possess you that night?"
"No." Hu Tudao shook his head and said somewhat embarrassedly, "Actually, I didn't see Ma Jiajie that night. When I was talking to Ma Dajun and the others, it was all an act."
Sure enough, I had been suspecting it all along, but Hu Tudao made it sound so certain, and besides, I needed his help, so I was too embarrassed to ask.
"Damn it, a leopard can't change its spots," Tong Liu cursed, angrily sitting back down on the bed.
"Alright, stop scolding him. Didn't you say you weren't scared and wanted to see what a ghost looks like?" I glared at Tong Liu and said irritably.
"I..." Tong Liu blushed and said weakly, "If she were to fight me for real, I wouldn't be afraid, but she's toying with me like this, how can I not be afraid?"
I nodded in agreement, but perhaps that's just how dirty things are; otherwise, there's nothing to be afraid of.
I could see through the crack in the door that there was already light outside, and I knew it was dawn. I said, "You two go back and get some rest first." Hu Tu said, "I'll go to your house again this afternoon to discuss how to deal with her."
"I'll head back now and come back tonight. Damn it, I won't let this go until I get rid of her." Tong Liu stood up, said viciously, and then opened the door and walked out.
“I’m going back too,” Hu Tudao said, and walked towards the door. Just as he was about to leave, he stopped and turned back to me, saying, “Changming, don’t spread what happened last night.”
"Okay." I nodded and agreed.
"Also, could you talk to Sixth Brother and ask him not to spread this around?" Hu Tudao looked at me, his tone pleading.
"Don't worry, I'll text him later."
I know what Hu Tudao is worried about. He's afraid that if word gets out, people will know that he's incompetent and likes to show off, and no one will dare to ask him to perform rituals anymore.
Even if Hu Tudao hadn't said anything, I never intended to spread it. I would never do something that harms others and doesn't benefit myself.
"Thank you," Hu Tu said, then turned and left.
"Hu Tudao, I hope you can learn skills from your father seriously and work diligently," I said, watching Hu Tudao's retreating figure.
Hu Tudao paused for a moment, then turned around and nodded emphatically at me, his face serious. "I will."
