Chapter 87 Despair

When I arrived at the room door, I saw someone sitting inside, someone I didn't know whether to love or hate: An Lili.

"Lili, didn't you go home after get off work?"

I pushed open the door and went in, asking as I spoke.

"Brother Changming, you're back!" An Lili stood up from her chair and asked with a smile.

"Um, what do you need me for?" I really wanted to confront An Lili and ask her why she released that filthy thing, but it wouldn't make a difference now, so I decided not to ask.

"I came to find you because I wanted you to return the triangular bag I gave you last time. Mine is missing," An Lili said somewhat embarrassedly.

"Oh." I took the triangular bag off my neck and handed it back to An Lili, saying indifferently, "Is there anything else?"

"Brother Changming, that's all. I'm going back now." After saying that, An Lili walked towards the door. When she reached the door, she stopped and said, "Brother Changming, actually, no matter what I do, I have my own reasons."

After saying that, An Lili quickened her pace and walked forward, disappearing from my sight in no time.

"Ha, my predicament? Who can understand my predicament?" I sneered, slightly drunk, and plopped back down on the bed.

An Lili probably knew I wouldn't live past tonight. Before I died, she took back the triangular bag she had given me before. But that's fine too. From now on, no one owes anyone anything.

I staggered to take a shower with my clothes, then sat back on the bed, took out my phone, edited a text message, delayed sending it, and then left a letter for my fifth grandfather.

After doing all that, I lay in bed, waiting for Fang Lei to appear.

Now that I've prepared myself for death, I'm not too afraid. It's just that the wait for death to come is agonizing. I hope it comes soon so I can be free.

10 PM.

I suddenly felt the temperature around me drop significantly, and I got goosebumps all over my body.

"Creak!"

The door, which had been tightly closed, was pushed open from the outside. I looked towards the doorway but saw nothing; I only heard rustling footsteps.

I had prepared myself, but when I was about to face him, I couldn't stop the fear.

Perhaps this is a person's instinctive reaction when facing something dirty or death. I really want to close my eyes and not see anything, but I can't. I want to know why this dirty thing wants to kill me and what it wants to get from me.

I held my breath, gripped the blanket tightly with both hands, the veins on the back of my hands bulging, and my whole body trembled uncontrollably.

The footsteps at the door were getting closer and closer, and my eyes were fixed on the doorway.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in my sight. His skin was withered, and there was a black mark on his neck. He was wearing those worn-out leather shoes that I knew so well. Who else could it be but Fang Lei?

My palms were sweating profusely, and I instinctively shrank back into the corner, but the room was only so big, where could I possibly escape to?

Fang Lei walked stiffly into my small room.

My teeth were chattering, and I asked in a trembling voice, "You...you are...a ghost or a corpse?"

"Hehe, is that important?" The blood-red flames in Fang Lei's eye sockets flickered even more fiercely. His mouth was closed, but his eerie voice had already echoed in my small room.

"It's important. At least I want to know what killed me." My heart was probably about to burst as I asked, my voice trembling.

"I don't really know what I am now. I was just a consciousness at first, and all I wanted was to take revenge. Later, I found my corpse and wanted to enter it, but I couldn't. I could only control it briefly. Until I found you, I had a premonition that if I ate you, I could merge with the corpse and be reborn in a different way." Fang Lei didn't seem to be in a hurry to make a move. Instead, he patiently explained.

"Have you ever considered that even if you eat me, you might not merge with this corpse?" I asked, clinging to a sliver of hope.

"I hadn't thought about it, but even if we don't merge, I'll still do it," Fang Lei said quietly as he continued to walk closer to me.

"Damn it, how can you bully people like this? Don't you have any sense of reason?" I felt a surge of anger and couldn't hold back any longer, so I shouted.

"You want to reason with me? Haha, with me in this state, who has ever reasoned with me?" Fang Lei suddenly tilted his withered head back, his mouth still tightly closed, but a loud laugh had already broken out.

"I'll fight you to the death." At this moment, I was a little drunk and had lost my mind due to anger. I suddenly got up from the bed and punched Fang Lei in the head.

Fang Lei didn't dodge or evade, and my punch landed on his head. Fang Lei didn't budge, but I was shaken back a few steps, and blood spurted from my fist.

Fang Lei's shriveled head was not injured at all, only stained with some blood from my fist.

"It smells so good." Fang Lei reached out his withered, wooden hand to touch the bloodstains on his face, then put it to his mouth and licked it with his gray-black tongue, seemingly enjoying it.

I felt nauseous and dry heaved a few times, but nothing came out. Instead, the intoxication disappeared, and I became much more sober.

“You don’t need to put up a futile resistance. It’s pointless. Take that old man you brought over last night, for example. He’s no threat to me. Just accept your fate. It’s all your destiny.” Fang Lei moved closer to me, the blood-red flames in his eye sockets flickering excitedly.

"Damn it, you're talking nonsense! If I had the ability, I would definitely sweep all of you filthy things away!" After I regained my senses, I wasn't afraid much. Instead, my anger intensified, and I pointed at Fang Lei and started cursing.

"Hehe, enjoy your last moments." Fang Lei kept getting closer to me.

Although I was cursing fiercely, I was completely helpless against this filthy thing and could only keep retreating.

Before long, I retreated to the wall, with nowhere left to go.

A feeling of weakness and helplessness instantly filled my entire being.

Oh well, it's all fate.

Or as Grandpa said, I was born with a life as fragile as paper; every extra day I live is a bonus.

I closed my eyes in anguish, and two lines of tears slid down my cheeks.

Although my eyes were closed, I could feel Fang Lei slowly approaching me. I could even smell a strange, dirty odor on him.

"Knock knock knock!"

My heart started pounding wildly, and the feeling of death was so clear.

"Grandpa, Changming misses you!" I shouted, releasing the longing that I had suppressed in my heart for so many years.

"Good child, Grandpa misses you too." Just then, a voice suddenly rang in my mind, no, to be precise, it came from my left eye, striking straight to my heart.
