Chapter 59 The Strange Ma Jiabao

An Lili suddenly looked up at me, seemingly curious why I would ask such a question. After thinking for a moment, she continued, "After graduation, I want to come back and find a job near my home."

I felt that An Lili wasn't telling me the truth, but I didn't want to question her, so I continued, "But the wages in our town are too low. I don't have the ability. If I did, I would like to go out and try my luck."

“It’s a bit low, but it’s close to home, so I can spend more time with my family,” An Lili nodded, giving her reason.

I know that asking blindly like this will not get me the results I want, but I can't bring myself to ask directly.

"Changming, tell me about your childhood?" An Lili took the initiative to start a conversation when she saw that I hadn't said anything for a while.

"There's not much to say about my childhood; I didn't have many friends," I replied.

"Then tell me about your grandfather?" An Lili continued to ask.

“Lili, didn’t you say you don’t believe in these supernatural theories? My grandfather is a master ghost hunter.” I looked at An Lili curiously and said.

"Tell me about it, just to satisfy my curiosity." An Lili reached up and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, staring intently at me with a look of anticipation.

I couldn't bear to refuse An Lili's request, so I started telling her about my grandfather from when I could remember. Actually, it wasn't anything special, just some everyday things.

An Lili rested her chin on her hand, listening intently, and would cover her mouth and chuckle when she heard something interesting.

I also secretly looked at An Lili a few times, and each time I made eye contact with him. Of course, I was the first to give in and look away.

"Brother Changming, your grandfather is so amazing, why didn't he teach his skills to you?" An Lili asked me.

“I don’t know him. He never said he would teach me. I was too young then, and I never mentioned to him that I wanted to learn,” I replied.

"By the way, Brother Changming, I remember you mentioned that your grandfather's red copper coin, is it really that powerful? Even the thousand-year-old Corpse King was afraid of it?" An Lili continued to ask.

I scratched my head a little awkwardly and said, "Actually, I don't know either. My grandfather told me. I've never seen any red copper coins before."

"Oh," An Lili said, her expression seemingly a little disappointed.

I suddenly felt that An Lili was acting a little strangely. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it was just a feeling that inexplicably welled up in my mind.

Just then, An Lili's phone rang. She picked it up, looked at it, and answered the call.

I didn't say anything, but from what An Lili said, I could guess that it was her family calling her. They probably saw that she hadn't gone home yet so late and wanted to call and ask.

I felt a sudden pang of loss. It's so nice to have the care of my family; I haven't felt this kind of care for many years.

An Lili hung up the phone, and I asked, "Was that a call from your family?"

“Well, Brother Changming, it’s getting late, let’s go back.” An Lili nodded and said.

I glanced at my watch; it was already nine o'clock at night. I said to An Lili, "Okay."

Anli and I came out of the restaurant. She got on her little turtle electric scooter and waved goodbye to me.

Seeing that it was already so late, I said to An Lili, "Lili, it's so late, let me walk you home."

“Okay, but I hope it won’t bother you?” An Lili readily agreed and then asked me.

"No trouble at all," I replied, and got on my electric scooter.

An Lili rode in front, while I followed behind her, half a car length behind.

"Brother Changming, what do you think of me?" An Lili, who was in front of him, suddenly asked.

I paused for a moment, then replied, "You're great! You have a high degree, are young and beautiful, have a great figure, and a lively and cheerful personality."

I spoke frankly based on my impressions of An Lili, without exaggerating or trying to flatter her.

"Sigh, if it's as good as you say, then why hasn't anyone pursued me after I've been working at the courier station for a month?" An Lili sighed, glanced back at me, and asked.

"I..." I was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to answer her.

"Pfft!" An Lili laughed, glanced back at me, and said, "You're such a blockhead."

For a moment I didn't know how to answer. My heart was pounding, and I had a strange urge to make a decision. An Lili's question was probably an implication. There were only a few people at the courier station, and the only unmarried ones were her and me. But when I thought about my ordeal, my restless heart gradually calmed down, and I followed behind An Lili, choosing to remain silent.

And An Lili didn't talk to me again.

About ten minutes later, I took An Lili home.

After saying goodbye to An Lili, I rode my electric bike back. I was so lost in thought that I didn't even remember when I passed the traffic light intersection. Now that I was back at the traffic light intersection, my heart suddenly tightened.

It's not past 10 o'clock yet, the traffic lights are still working, and it's currently red, so I'm stopping at the intersection to wait.

My heart was pounding. I didn't dare look anywhere, just stared at the red light above. As soon as it turned green, I would leave immediately.

Although no cars are passing by right now, I haven't run a red light once and don't want to break this rule.

I was silently counting in my mind when I suddenly heard the sound of a motorcycle behind me. My tense heart immediately relaxed a lot. I turned around and saw a young man riding a motorcycle that had just stopped behind me. I recognized the young man; he was Ma Jiabao from Zhugenzi Village, Mawu Village Committee.

"Ma Jiabao, where are you going so late?" I rarely see an acquaintance, so I greeted him warmly.

Ma Jiabao was also taken aback when he saw me, his eyes darting around a bit. He said, "No... I didn't go anywhere. It's too hot, I couldn't sleep at night, so I came out for a stroll."

I saw that Ma Jiabao's motorcycle was pulling a large cardboard box, and I didn't know what was inside. There was a large wet patch on one side of it.

"Oh," I replied casually, then asked, "What are you pulling behind you?"

After I asked the question, I saw Ma Jiabao's expression change slightly before he continued, "It's nothing. My dad went shopping today and forgot to take the cardboard boxes off, so I took the motorcycle out."

I obviously didn't believe it. From the angle of the cardboard box hanging down on both sides, I knew there was something inside. Not only that, I could also smell the aroma of food and rice wine.

Since Ma Jiabao was unwilling to talk about it, I was too lazy to ask. Whatever he was doing was none of my business. Just then, the traffic light turned green, and I hurriedly rode my bike to turn left. The green light only lasted for a dozen seconds; if I missed it, I would have to wait 100 seconds.

After I turned the corner, I saw that Ma Jiabao was still standing there, showing no intention of crossing the traffic light. It seemed that he had no intention of crossing the traffic light at all, and his destination was right there at the traffic light.

"What's Ma Jiabao up to, acting all mysterious?" I muttered to myself before riding my bike away.

Fortunately, nothing happened at the traffic lights tonight, and my heart finally calmed down. I was just a little puzzled by Ma Jiabao's strange behavior.
