When I woke up, I found myself sleeping on the dance studio floor again, and I had another dream last night.
And this time, I wasn't the only one lying here; Tong Liu was also fast asleep next to me, with a strange smile on his face.
My face was pale, and I shakily reached out and shook Tong Liu, calling out, "Tong Liu, wake up!"
But Tong Liu didn't seem to hear, and turned over to continue sleeping.
I glanced at my watch; it was already six in the morning. I gritted my teeth and slapped Tong Liu across the face.
I slapped Tong Liu, and he opened his eyes in pain. Seeing my hand still hanging in mid-air, he said angrily, "Why did you hit me? I was sleeping soundly."
"Get up and see for yourself," I said in a low voice, my back already drenched in cold sweat.
Tong Liu sat up, rubbed his eyes, and looked around. Then, he jumped up and said in disbelief, "How...how did I end up sleeping here?"
I hurriedly pulled Tong Liu downstairs and returned to my little room.
"Chang...Changming, how did I end up up there?" Tong Liu asked, his face pale and trembling.
“Not only you went up, I went up too, and I slept right next to you.” My face wasn’t much better; my scalp was tingling, and my back was soaked with sweat.
"Could it be... that there really are ghosts? I... I don't sleepwalk," Tong Liu said, his face trembling with fear.
"Who knows?" I composed myself, glanced at Tong Liu sideways, and said, "Didn't you say you weren't afraid of ghosts?"
"But do I look scared?" Tong Liu wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, waved his fist, and squeezed out a fierce look on his pale face. He said domineeringly, "I'm all muscle and I have a fist as big as a casserole. I'm not afraid of tigers."
I glanced at Tong Liu, pulled out a tissue and handed it to him, saying, "Stop bragging and wipe the cold sweat off your back."
Upon hearing this, Tong Liu reached up and touched his back, then blushed and took a tissue to wipe his sweat.
"Think back carefully, did you have any dreams last night?" I asked, looking at Bucket Six.
Upon hearing this, Tong Liu pondered for a moment. Then, his eyes widened and he said tremblingly, "I remember last night a little girl came to me and asked me to wait with her for her mother to pick her up. I thought she was very cute and all alone, so I went with her because I felt sorry for her."
"Is it her?" I took out my phone and quickly searched through the photos. After a short while, I opened a picture and handed it to Tong Liu.
Tong Liu took the phone and glanced at it, saying, "It's her, but she wasn't wearing this last night."
My face was very pale as I slowly said, "Her name was Xu Huihui. A month ago, she twisted her waist while dancing in the dance studio and died on the spot."
"What?" Tong Liu's eyes widened, and he took a step back in fright, even dropping my phone to the ground.
"Changming, then... then we really encountered a ghost last night?" Tong Liu, pale-faced, moved closer to me and asked in a trembling voice.
"Hmm, most likely." I nodded, my face grim. It seemed this little girl had approached not only me, but anyone staying here at night.
"Changming, what do we do now? Should we call the police?" Tong Liu asked in terror, his body trembling slightly.
"Call the police? Call the police my ass! They'll just think you're an idiot." I rolled my eyes at Tong Liu and cursed.
"So what do we do now?"
"Alright, you can go back to your place tonight. As long as you don't stay here with me, this little girl won't bother you." Seeing Tong Liu's state, I felt apologetic. If it weren't for me, Tong Liu wouldn't have encountered this situation.
"What are you talking about? What do you take Tong Liu for? The kind of person who abandons his brothers? She insists on staying here tonight. Let's see if she dares to come looking for us again." Tong Liu shouted angrily.
I found it amusing to see Tong Liu's obvious lack of confidence, but I didn't call him out on it. However, his actions really touched me. Over the years, I've only had two or three people who have been genuinely good to me.
"Alright then, Hu Tudao should be back by now. I'll invite him over tonight and send this little girl away."
"Changming, why don't you just kill her? It would save a lot of trouble." Tong Liu said angrily, looking displeased.
“She didn’t hurt us, why be so cruel? Just send her away. She’s a pitiful child, she can still grow up and see the world.”
Upon hearing what I said, Tong Liu's anger vanished instantly. He nodded heavily and said, "Alright, let's do as you say. Send her away so she can be reincarnated sooner."
"Tong Liu, didn't you say yesterday that you weren't afraid of ghosts? What's wrong with you today?" I patted Tong Liu on the shoulder, with a half-smile.
"Who said I'm scared? Even a real ghost would bow down to me, but what kind of nonsense is this?" Tong Liu said, clearly lacking confidence.
"Alright, alright, I know you're amazing, okay? I'm almost at work, you should go back to work too," I said, glancing at my watch.
"Alright, I'll head back now. I'll come back tonight; I absolutely have to see this little ghost girl with my own eyes." Tong Liu patted my shoulder, turned around, and left the small house to go back to work.
I washed up and went to the courier station to clock in. It was still early, and I was just about to ride my electric bike out to get breakfast when I ran into An Lili.
"Brother Changming, where are you going so early in the morning?" An Lili parked the car, took off her helmet, and asked me.
"It's not time for work yet, I'm going out for breakfast." I said, pushing my electric scooter out.
“No need to go, I brought some for you.” An Lili patted the back seat of my car, then took a bag from her trunk and handed it to me, saying, “This rice noodle roll is delicious, you should try it.”
"Uh, thank you." I put the electric scooter back down, took the bag, and said, "How much is it? I'll transfer the money to you later."
"No need, don't be so polite." An Lili smiled slightly and turned to walk towards the courier station.
Despite what An Lili said, I still took out my phone, opened WeChat, and transferred 10 yuan to him.
Looking at the heavy breakfast in the plastic bag, I felt a warm feeling inexplicably. From childhood to adulthood, because of my left eye, almost no girl was willing to get close to me.
But when I thought that I might not make it to my birthday this year, the last glimmer of hope in my heart vanished. I can't even protect myself, so how can I dare to pursue someone else?
"Hey, isn't this Changming? How was your sleep last night? You and An Lili seem to get along really well, she brings you breakfast every day."
Zhang Guangyin had appeared beside me without me noticing, speaking in a sarcastic tone.
"Hehe, Brother Yin is joking. I was too lazy to go out, so I asked An Lili to bring it for me." I snapped out of my thoughts and forced a smile at Zhang Guangyin.
