The red shadow kept approaching me, and I kept retreating. Soon, I was backed into a corner with nowhere to go.
I knew I couldn't escape, but I wasn't willing to give up and wait to die. I gritted my teeth, grabbed a handful of talismans in one hand and gripped the small knife in the other, and launched an attack on the red shadow.
However, when my talismans were less than five centimeters away from the red shadow, they instantly engulfed the red gas, causing him no harm whatsoever.
My dagger, which I was about to thrust at, stopped in front of the red shadow, unable to advance even an inch. The difference in strength was too great; they were not even in the same league.
The red shadow stood before me, without eyes, but I could sense its disdain.
Although I knew I couldn't win, I didn't give up. With all my might, I tried to plunge the knife into the red shadow's body.
But just then, the red shadow shuddered, and my knife instantly flew out of my hand, crashing to the ground with a thud.
Having lost my knife, all I could do was raise my fist and punch the red shadow in the face.
As expected, my fist couldn't even get close to the red shadow; it was blocked by a burst of red gas not far from him.
My fist felt like it had hit a piece of steel; my whole body was jolted backward and I crashed into the wall behind me.
Just as I was about to continue my attack, the red shadow appeared in front of me in a flash, stretched out a red arm, and grabbed my neck.
He lifted my whole body up, and a feeling of suffocation suddenly spread throughout my body.
Actually, I did think about rebelling, but it was all useless.
I resigned myself to my fate. The prolonged lack of oxygen had turned my face bright red, but I gritted my teeth because I still had the red copper coin that my grandfather had given me in my mouth.
So be it. Perhaps this is my fate, one I can't escape. I slowly closed my eyes, feeling a sense of relief.
What I'm not happy about is that because of me, so many people have been implicated: my grandfather, my fifth grandfather, the village chief, and that old woman I only met a few times. They all risked their lives for me, and I don't know how they are now. I hope they're alright.
The feeling of suffocation grew stronger and stronger, and my head felt heavier and heavier. I just wanted to be free.
I thought back to my childhood, when my grandfather was still alive. Those were the happiest times of my life. Unfortunately, I was destined to be caught up in fate's arrangements, and perhaps this is my final destination.
The thought of seeing my grandfather and my parents, whom I had never met before, suddenly made me feel quite good, and a rare smile appeared on my face, which was usually flushed.
"Changming, my good grandson..." Just as I was dying, I seemed to hear my grandfather's voice.
Because my neck was being choked, I couldn't ask a question, but I could only silently scream in my heart, "Grandpa, is that you?"
"Changming, you shouldn't lose faith in life. You still have a long road ahead of you; you must live well."
"Are you Grandpa?" I called out to each other in my mind.
"It's me." My grandfather's voice echoed in my mind once again.
"Grandpa, what should I do now?" I asked myself.
"Remember the copper coin I left you? Now stick it directly to its face. The secret to killing this thing is in your left eye. When it's extremely weak, remove the blindfold and look at it with your left eye. It will surely die." Grandpa paused and continued, "Good child, Grandpa is leaving now. Good luck."
"Grandpa, Grandpa?" I cried out in my heart.
This time, however, I received no response from my grandfather. The feeling of suffocation grew stronger and stronger. I felt like I was about to die. Thinking of what my grandfather had just said, I don't know where I got the strength, but I put my hand directly into my mouth, took out the copper coin, and quickly stuck it on the red shadow's head.
