Chapter 36 How did I end up sleeping in the dance studio?

I lay back on the bed, my body trembling slightly. I stuffed tissues into my ears and kept muttering to myself, "I can't hear you, I can't hear you."

But that eerie scream, as if striking straight to the heart, clearly reached my ears. I fucking couldn't take it anymore, so I jumped up from the bed, grabbed my phone, and stormed out the door.

As soon as I came outside, I saw two big black cats not far ahead. One was arching its back, and the other was circling around the one that was arching its back, making strange noises.

Damn it, I thought it was something else, but it's just these two beasts. I guess the female cat is in heat and the male cat wants to mate, but the female cat won't allow it, so it's making noise here.

I got angrier and angrier. I was almost scared to death by those two bastards, so I picked up a brick from the ground and threw it at the big black cat.

When the two big black cats saw the bricks I threw, they hurriedly ran away, but after running a distance, they stopped, turned around, looked at me with their two bright green eyes, and still made that eerie meow.

"Still dare to bark!" I cursed, picked up another brick, and threw it at the big black cat.

Upon seeing this, the two large black cats turned around and disappeared into the night.

"Hmph, you're lucky you ran fast, otherwise I would have smashed you to death." I cursed, turned around and went back to my room, closed the door, and lay down on the bed to continue sleeping.

After I chased the big black cat away, the surroundings instantly became quiet, an unnatural silence. All I could hear was the whirring of my desktop fan.

I turned off the light, lay back down on the bed, and tried to sleep, but before I could fall asleep, I heard a sound again, faint and indistinct, like music. I tried to listen carefully, but I couldn't hear anything. When I wasn't paying attention, I could hear it again, as if the music had never existed and was just something I imagined.

I couldn't sleep, so I got up, shook my head, lit a cigarette, and checked the time on my phone. It was already past midnight.

After finishing my cigarette, I lay back down on the bed, opened my music app on my phone, and played my favorite songs. Listening to the music, I felt less tense, and perhaps because I was sleepy, I drifted off to sleep.

In a daze, I think I was having a dream.

In my dream, a little girl came to the courier station to find me. The girl was about eight or nine years old, with two pigtails, snow-white skin, and a pair of big, black, gem-like eyes with tear stains. She looked very pitiful.

I didn't know this girl, but I thought she was very cute. The girl told me that she had gotten separated from her mother and asked me to take her to find her mother. I told her that I didn't know where her mother was either.

The little girl got anxious and suddenly started crying. My heart softened, and I quickly went over, squatted down, and began to comfort her, wiping away her tears.

I asked her if she knew where her mother was, but the little girl shook her head and said that her mother would come to pick her up, and asked me to stay with her while she waited for her mother.

I asked her if she was waiting here, and the little girl nodded, pointed upstairs, and said she was waiting upstairs.

After the little girl finished speaking, she walked towards the stairwell.

I followed behind the little girl and asked her what her name was.

The little girl turned around, smiled, and told me her name was Huihui. She also told me to hurry up and catch up because she was scared to be waiting up there alone.

I replied "okay" and followed the little girl upstairs.

I casually found a chair and sat down, while the little girl happily ran around the dance studio.

The little girl ran around for a while, then suddenly turned around and asked me if I wanted to play with her.

I shook my head and said I couldn't dance.

The little girl said that none of her classmates played with her, they all disliked her, and ignored her. Her teacher was the same, saying that she was really lonely.

As the little girl spoke, she looked like she was about to cry.

My heart ached when I saw her crying, so I quickly went over to comfort her and told her not to cry.

The little girl stopped crying and said she wanted to dance for me.

I nodded and stood aside, smiling as I watched her.

The little girl danced gracefully in the dance studio, occasionally letting out a silvery laugh, and seemed very happy.

I shook my head, wanting to take out my phone to play with it, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Just then, I heard the little girl say that she was leaving and would come to play with me again tomorrow.

I looked up, but the little girl had already disappeared somewhere.

I walked around the dance studio, but still couldn't see the little girl. I started to get nervous and kept calling her name.

I don't know how long I called out, but I still didn't get a response from the little girl.

Just then, I heard a shrill voice, "You're Zuo Changming, the deliveryman. What are you doing here in the dance studio?"

I heard someone call my name, and I slowly opened my eyes. What came into view was a middle-aged woman in her forties, holding a mop in her hand.

I jolted awake, sat bolt upright, looked around, and asked blankly, "Where am I?"

"This is the Xingmeng Dance Studio, right? Zuo Changming, what are you doing lying here so early in the morning?" The middle-aged woman, leaning on her mop, looked at me strangely.

"boom!"

I suddenly felt as if my head had been struck by lightning, and my whole body began to tremble violently. I hurriedly stood up from the ground and ran out in a panic.

When I ran to the stairwell, I could still faintly hear the middle-aged woman muttering to herself.

I ran downstairs in one breath and arrived at my small room. I found the door open, so I hurriedly went in and closed the door tightly behind me. I saw that my phone was still on the bed.

I started shaking like a leaf. I was sleeping here last night, so how did I end up in the dance studio when I woke up?

I raised my hand and slapped myself twice hard across the face. The intense pain made me gasp. I picked up my phone from the bed and glanced at it, only to find that it was dead. I looked at my watch; it was 6:30 in the morning.

I slumped onto the bed, goosebumps rising all over my body, a layer of cold sweat breaking out on my forehead, and a chill running down my back.

I was sleeping here, so how did I end up in the dance studio? When did I go up there?

I shook my head and frowned as I tried to recall. I remember that I seemed to have fallen asleep last night and then had a dream in which a little girl came to play with me, and after that I don't remember anything else.

Wait, little girl? My eyes widened in surprise. Could it be that girl named Xu Huihui?

I tried hard to recall what happened in my dream last night, but no matter how hard I tried, I could only remember some scattered fragments.

My heart started pounding wildly. Had I sleepwalked up there on my own, or had that little girl named Xu Huihui led me up there?

If it's the former, that's better. But if it's the latter, then I've spent the whole night playing with a ghost.
