I didn't dare linger for a moment. I ran back to my little hut in one breath and kicked the door shut.
I plopped down on the bed, panting heavily, my whole body trembling, and a chill ran down my spine. I had no idea where the cigarette in my hand had fallen.
I was in the hut by the wall when I heard what sounded like something chewing inside. I knew without a doubt that it was that filthy thing eating the big rooster that An Lili threw in.
Damn it, so An Lili put the rooster in there just to feed that filthy thing. Why would she do that?
I shakily took out my phone, wanting to call Hu Ergou and tell him what had happened in the cabin.
But as soon as I took my phone out, I heard a knock on the door.
"Knock knock knock knock!"
"Thud!"
My face changed drastically, and my hand trembled, causing my phone to fall to the ground.
"Who...who is it?" I asked, trembling.
"Brother Changming, it's me."
I heard An Lili's voice coming from outside the door.
My expression changed instantly again. I took a deep breath and said, "Is there something you need?"
"Well, I want to tell you something." An Lili's voice came from outside the door. It was very gentle, and it seemed to carry a little shyness. She was completely different from the person who had just eaten raw black rooster blood.
"Can we talk about it tomorrow? I'm a little tired." I really didn't know how to face her. I was scared and conflicted.
"I've been thinking about this for several days before I finally figured it out. No, I have to tell you today, otherwise it will keep bothering me," An Lili said firmly.
"Well..." I was still hesitating.
But just then...
"Creak!" The door was pushed open from the outside by An Lili.
An Lili walked in slowly, a sweet smile on her face, though she looked a little awkward.
My heart skipped a beat. I remembered that I had just closed the door with my foot. How did An Lili open it?
"Changming, what's wrong? Your face looks terrible, and you're covered in sweat." An Lili sat down in the chair in front of my desk and asked me.
“I…” I hesitated for a moment and said, “I’m fine, it’s just too hot.”
"Then why don't you turn on the fan?" An Lili asked curiously.
"Uh... I just got back, haven't had a chance to turn it on yet." I said a little awkwardly, then reached out and turned on the fan.
"Brother Changming, there's something I've been wanting to tell you for a long time, but I've never had the courage. Now I've finally made up my mind," An Lili said to me earnestly.
"Then tell me." I felt a surge of nervousness. I felt that An Lili was going to tell me about the cabin, but if she found out, would we no longer be able to be friends? For some reason, I felt very uncomfortable and extremely tormented.
"Brother Changming, before we continue, can I ask you a question?"
I was startled. Did An Lili already know that I had discovered her secret?
An Lili stared intently into my eyes, her face flushed red without her noticing, and asked softly, "Brother Changming, do you like me?"
Huh?
My previously anxious heart skipped a beat, and I said in disbelief, "What did you say?"
An Lili bit her lip, remained silent for a while, and then asked, "Brother Changming, do you like me?"
"I..." My heart skipped a beat, and I whispered, "I don't know."
If I hadn't discovered An Lili's secrets, I think I would have followed my heart and told her loudly that I liked her. But now that I know those things, my heart is so confused, so very confused.
"Alright then, answer me when you've thought it through." An Lili gave me a resentful look, then turned and walked towards the door. As she walked out the door, An Lili suddenly stopped and said, "Brother Changming, I'll wait for your answer."
After saying that, An Lili slowly disappeared from my sight.
I stared blankly in the direction of the door, lost in thought. Then, I raised my hand and slapped myself across the face.
The intense pain instantly cleared my mind, which had been tormented. Even if I hadn't discovered An Lili's secrets, what could I have done? After all, he and I were from two different worlds. Zhang Guangyin was right; I had been too delusional.
Right now, I really want to get drunk and forget all the unhappy things. If I didn't have important things to do tonight, I would definitely buy two bottles of rice wine, get myself drunk, and have a good sleep. Even if I don't wake up tomorrow, it doesn't matter. I don't have much time left to live anyway, so dying would be the end of it all.
Just then, my phone rang in my pocket. I picked it up and saw that it was Tong Liu calling.
I answered the phone, and said in a low voice, "Hey Tong Liu, what's up?"
"Changming, I have a question for you, and you must answer me honestly," Tong Liu said seriously over the phone.
At that moment, I was feeling quite down, and I said irritably, "Just tell me what's wrong. Don't act like a woman. Just ask directly."
"No, you have to promise me you'll answer me honestly."
I was thinking about An Lili's matter, so I casually said, "Okay, I promise you, go ahead and ask."
"Changming, did you watch my DVD last night?" Tong Liu asked seriously.
"Yeah, so what?" I answered instinctively, but as soon as I said it, I regretted it. Damn it, I shouldn't have admitted it.
"Damn it, you saw it, and you even plugged in the speakers, didn't you? Do you know how people in the neighborhood looked at me today? The way they looked at me was like they had 'pervert' written all over my face." Tong Liu got more and more agitated as he spoke, roaring, "And you forgot to unplug the speakers after you saw them, making me look bad again today. I'm so ashamed I can't even show my face anymore."
"Pfft!"
I couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"You still have the nerve to laugh?" Tong Liu yelled on the other end of the phone.
"Serves you right," I replied, and then hung up the phone.
After talking to Tong Liu on the phone, I felt much better. I never expected that he would still fall into the trap I set for him.
Although doing this would further solidify Bucket Six's reputation as a pervert, I felt no guilt whatsoever.
I waited in the room until Anlili and the others got off work before I went in to clock in, went out to eat a fast food meal, and then returned to the small room.
It was already past 8 p.m., and it was dark. The entire courier station was quiet, which inexplicably added to the eerie atmosphere, as if something was hiding where I couldn't see it, staring intently at me.
Just as I was feeling incredibly nervous, I heard a knock on the door, "Knock knock knock knock!"
Is it the fourth tone?
My face immediately turned pale.
