Chapter 17 Side Quest: Kill Zombies (2)

"What are we going to do now? How are we going to survive a month in this damn place...?"

"Let's find a safe zone. There must be one here. Let's hide in the safe zone for a month."

"agree……"

Within minutes, all the passengers agreed that they should go to the safe zone. Wen Zuo and Mo Shuwan had no objection to this either. However, whether there was a safe zone and where it was still unknown.

Wen Zuo stood beside Mo Shuwan, carefully surveying the surroundings. He noticed the wreckage of a car not far away and secretly remembered this small detail. When he looked down at Mo Shuwan, who was hugging her legs and burying her face in her knees, the sharpness in his eyes disappeared.

Wen Zuo squatted down, but did not touch Mo Shuwan immediately. He sat beside her and waited for her to rest for a full five minutes before reaching out to pat Mo Shuwan's back.

"What's wrong?"

Wen Zuo showed his phone to Mo Shuwan.

—Zombies are no longer human. Don't feel burdened by killing zombies. If we don't kill zombies, we will die.

"I know," Mo Shuwan said softly, "Give me some time."

Seeing that she truly understood, Wen Zuo breathed a sigh of relief and then quickly typed out the contents of the extra line of bloody words on the back of his hand for Mo Shuwan to see.

—Side quest: Kill zombies (2), which appears right after you've killed the zombies.

Mo Shuwan was stunned for a moment, barely managing to recall Wen Zuo's words by the bus earlier, that killing zombies was a mission. "You mean, you not only have the mission to survive for a month, but also the mission to kill zombies?"

Wen Zuo nodded.

how so……

Does killing zombies automatically create this new mission, and what happens if you don't? This question lingered in Mo Shuwan's mind before she dismissed it. To survive, she would have to deal with zombies no matter what; not killing them seemed impossible.

After a moment of silence, I suddenly remembered the rating the bus gave for the previous mission. One of the ratings was that the main mission was completed and points were awarded. So, will completing side missions also award points now?

Mo Shuwan turned to look at Wen Zuo, "I told you before, points are very important, and this task should be related to points."

Upon hearing this, Wen Zuo lowered his head and looked at the 2 in parentheses after the blood-red word. Thinking of the two zombies he had just killed, he had a sudden realization.

—It seems that the more zombies you kill, the more points you get. You said we can use points to exchange for time to leave the bus, so now we not only need to find a way to complete the task of surviving for a month, but also to kill more zombies.

Mo Shuwan's already pale face seemed to turn even paler. A look of pain flashed in her eyes, and she slumped down, hugging her knees. Her voice was muffled as she said, "Yeah, that's probably it. The side quest is triggered by killing zombies, so it's actually optional..."

Even so, Mo Shuwan already had the answer in her heart: to buy time to leave the bus, she had to kill the zombies.

But the thought of fighting the terrifying zombies with a knife made her feel nauseous. Just as she was feeling scared and sad, she was patted on the shoulder. Mo Shuwan silently raised her head. The first thing that caught her eye was Wen Zuo's long and beautiful fingers, and then the phone screen.

Don't be afraid, I will help you.

Upon seeing this sentence, Mo Shuwan suddenly felt a lump in her throat and quickly buried her head between her knees, remaining motionless for a long time.

But her sudden action completely confused Wen Zuo. Thinking that he had mistyped something and offended Mo Shuwan, Wen Zuo quickly checked his phone and found that there were no extra, missing, or wrong words. He was even more confused. He wanted to ask what was wrong, but he didn't dare to reach out. He could only stare blankly at the top of Mo Shuwan's head, feeling conflicted.

Worried about not finding a safe zone before dark, Mo Shuwan and her group didn't dare stay in one place for too long. Soon, they got up and walked along the highway. Sure enough, they saw several cars on the road, but they were all wrecked and overgrown with weeds. It could be inferred that the accident on this highway must have happened a long time ago.

From before sunrise to when the sun was high in the sky, everyone was drenched in sweat. To their despair, after walking for so long, they still hadn't seen any signs of human activity, not even a single zombie. The long journey and the mental pressure had pushed many to the brink of collapse.

Less than three minutes later, one passenger finally couldn't take it anymore and plopped down, grabbing the person next to him and weakly saying, "Let's rest for a while, I can't walk anymore, I'm exhausted."

The person she was pulling had long since run out of energy, so when she pulled them like that, they stopped and sat down beside her, panting heavily. More and more people stopped, until in the end only Wen Zuo and Mo Shuwan were still walking. Wen Zuo really didn't feel that tired, while Mo Shuwan was holding on to her breath and didn't want to bother others, so she was supported by Wen Zuo and followed along in a daze.

The passengers behind them were making quite a commotion. Wen Zuo noticed this and immediately pulled Mo Shuwan to a stop. He supported Mo Shuwan's weight with his left hand and quickly chopped some weeds with his specially made watermelon knife in his right hand, piling them high on the ground before helping Mo Shuwan sit down.

As soon as Mo Shuwan's bottom touched the relatively soft weeds, she couldn't help but fall to the side.

Fortunately, Wen Zuo had cut down enough weeds, so even when she fell, she was still lying on the weeds. Mo Shuwan squinted at the sun hanging in the sky, but she felt dizzy and was about to faint from the heat when a cool hand covered her eyes, instantly dispelling the urge to faint.

But Mo Shuwan still had no strength. Her calves and waist ached terribly, and she couldn't get up at all. She could only lie on the weeds like a salted fish that had lost its water, letting Wen Zuo's cool, moist hand do whatever he wanted to her face.

With only two bottles of water left, and worried that it would take a long time to find a safe zone, Wen Zuo didn't dare to waste any more water. He moistened his palms with some water and gently helped Mo Shuwan cool down her face before stopping. He couldn't speak, so he had to shake Mo Shuwan up, but looking at her sunburnt face, he couldn't bear to do it.

After hesitating for a while, Wen Zuo simply poured the water into the bottle cap, put down the mineral water, freed his hand to lift Mo Shuwan's head, and brought the bottle cap to her already very dry lips.

Fortunately, Mo Shuwan looked like a salted fish that was about to die from the sun, but she still knew to drink water.

After drinking a third of the water in the bottle while being half-held and fed by Wen Zuo, Mo Shuwan finally felt alive again and regained some strength. "I'm fine now, you should rest too." Noticing Wen Zuo putting the bottle cap back on, she added, "Drink some water."

Wen Zuo smiled and shook his head.
