A group of mid-level vampires personally took action to capture people. No human dared to stop them unless they were absolutely certain of success, because they couldn't stop them and would only lose their own lives in vain.
Mo Shuwan silently observed the local people crowding the streets, noticing that some of them looked panicked as if they were searching for something. In fact, she didn't need to guess who they were looking for. Various thoughts flashed through her mind, and Mo Shuwan's face darkened.
"Damn it! I must kill these vampires with my own hands!"
Azhan's voice was full of anger, but he tried his best to control the volume of his voice. Because the group was very close, they could barely hear his roar. The other vampire hunters reacted in a similar way to Azhan, while Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo were too calm.
After Azhan and the other vampire hunters vented their anger, Mo Shuwan, who was sitting on the ground against the wall, lowered her voice and said, "No matter what, we have to go down and cause some trouble for the vampires. It would be best if we could rescue some of the captured humans. Otherwise, if the current situation continues, someone will eventually reveal our whereabouts in order to save their own lives."
Moreover, Mo Shuwan was unwilling to give up on these human lives. If it weren't for their cover, she and Wen Zuo didn't know if they would have survived until now. It was only right and wrong for them to try and see what would happen. No matter the outcome, at least they would have tried and had a clear conscience.
Several vampire hunters nodded repeatedly. When the city was about to fall completely, they chose to stay. Now that all the humans in the city were in danger, they could not stand idly by.
While Mo Shuwan and the others were discussing countermeasures upstairs, the people crowded together on the street were all facing a difficult choice: whether to betray the vampire hunters and join the vampires to save their lives, or to remain silent to the death.
Many people silently looked up at the vampire procession that had disappeared into the distance, struggling with their emotions. Although they could no longer see the people, their heart-wrenching screams could still be faintly heard. Many people turned pale, and the scales in their hearts seemed to have tipped.
“Baby, next time the bad guys come, Daddy will tell them where the person they’re looking for is. Once they find the person they’re looking for, they won’t arrest us.” The man’s voice was dazed as he held his three-year-old daughter tightly in his arms.
The little girl looked up at her father, whose face was contorted with pain, raised her little hand and touched his face, and said in her childish voice, "Daddy, my brothers and sisters are fighting the bad guys. If the bad guys take my brothers and sisters away, then no one will fight the bad guys and protect us anymore."
The man's body stiffened, and he abruptly looked down at his daughter, his lips moving slightly, but he didn't know how to respond.
The little girl's innocent and insightful words were heard by others around her, and some people wavered again, their hearts beginning to tip.
"If they really wanted to protect us, they would have shown up by now!"
Suddenly, the quiet crowd erupted into a huge argument. Some were willing to continue believing that Mo Shuwan and the others would appear, while others were unwilling to believe it. Both sides stuck to their own opinions and argued fiercely.
When Mo Shuwan and the others came down from the residential building, they tried to squeeze into the crowd several times but failed. They could only stand helplessly at the very edge and pat the few people arguing fiercely in front of them.
The person who was filmed thought someone was going to attack him, so he immediately rolled up his sleeves, ready to fight. But when he turned around, he saw Mo Shuwan instead. The person who was rolling up his sleeves froze and said stupidly, "You? You're that vampire hunter from before?"
Because the surrounding area was so noisy, Mo Shuwan and the others couldn't hear what was being said, so they didn't know that two groups were arguing about whether they would show up. She nodded, "I am."
Azhan stepped forward and said urgently, "The vampires captured you to sacrifice you in order to release their king. If their king is released, everyone in this city will be doomed. We are too few in number to fight against so many vampires on our own, so we need your help."
"What!"
The local humans who heard this were shocked and hurriedly asked, "As long as we can survive, we will definitely help!"
Ah Zhan hesitated, unable to bring himself to tell him the truth.
Mo Shuwan sighed silently and said directly, "We cannot guarantee that all of you will survive. Fighting vampires will inevitably result in sacrifices, and even we will not be spared."
The group of native humans staring at them were immediately incredulous. If they couldn't survive, what was the point of resisting? Wasn't the point of resisting to survive?
Seeing what they were thinking, Mo Shuwan remained silent for a moment before asking in return, "When the vampires were grabbing people, did anyone resist? Weren't they all frantically begging for mercy? But did it work? Did they survive?"
Everyone was shocked. They thought of the people who had just been captured. Yes, they hadn't resisted and had even begged for mercy, expressing their willingness to be loyal, but they were still ruthlessly taken away. Those vampires didn't treat them as equals at all. In the eyes of vampires, all the humans in this city were just food.
The arguing gradually subsided as those who knew the situation relayed the news of Mo Shuwan and her group's arrival to those around them, and Mo Shuwan's words were also conveyed. Soon, the once noisy street became much quieter.
"However, we can tell you that we have notified the vampire hunter headquarters in other cities, and vampire hunters should be on their way now. Our mission now is to stop the vampires from capturing more people and to stop them from releasing their king. If we can do this, any number of casualties will be worth it. Although some people may die, many more will survive, including our loved ones."
According to A-Zhan's guess, the fastest group of vampire hunters will arrive in the city in just one day, which means they will arrive tomorrow or early this morning. So Mo Shuwan and the others just need to hold on for this period of time and they will be able to wait for reinforcements.
The truth is laid out before us; it's up to ordinary humans to choose. Mo Shuwan understands that this choice is somewhat difficult. If she were in that position, she wouldn't be sure if she would give her all for that elusive victory and safety, especially if it might threaten her own life.
After all, life is only once. Although death is not inevitable, most people would choose to wait rather than face vampires.
Sure enough, after Mo Shuwan's words were spread by word of mouth, many people squatted down silently, while only a few gritted their teeth and expressed their willingness to cooperate with Mo Shuwan and the others.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not that great. The only reason I'm helping you is because my family was just arrested, and I want to save them!"
The others nodded silently.
