Chapter 26 Tide Proverbs (Part 8) Who is it? It is me.
Are you alright?
Feng Mian seemed to be fine, except for a nosebleed. Xiao Feng seemed to be just realizing what had just happened. She held her brother's hand tightly and watched his blood flow down his chin.
Then there's Xia Zhu. She casually wiped her face with the back of her hand, most of the bloodstains ending up on her cheek. Faced with Feng Feng's helpless gaze, she could only force a smile and tell him it was just a minor matter, a reaction similar to getting a sore throat, and not something for Lord Feng Feng to deal with.
She's the most capable of the three of them. These kinds of characters often appear last, with a determined look in their eyes and a strong bond between them, right?
Feng Feng simply nodded blankly, without saying anything more.
The farce ended, and the remaining students didn't seem to care whether the mutated creature lying on the ground was their teacher. Seeing that there was no more excitement to watch, they returned to their rooms expressionlessly, just like NPCs.
Xia Zhu tore a piece of black tarpaulin from the warehouse and covered the pile of corpses.
"At least I won't have to do back massages tomorrow."
She squatted down in front of Feng Feng, which ruled out the teacher as the demon, but it also meant that the real protagonist was still hiding behind the crowd, which undoubtedly increased the danger for them. Just in case, Xiao Feng and Xia Zhu slept together in her room tonight, while Feng Mian was in Feng Feng's room next door.
She took out a towel from her backpack and dried Feng Feng's hair. The latter huddled in the corner of the bed without saying a word. It was not Feng Feng's fault. They had only entered the Green Stone level dream before, and the first time they advanced to the next level, they hit her weak point. As long as she was given more time, Xia Zhu believed that Feng Feng would definitely be able to recover.
After drying their hair, the two lay on the bed fully clothed. There was a lot of information tonight, and Xia Zhu began to sort it out in her mind, while the breathing of the person next to her gradually became long and even.
They had never been able to figure out the reason for this dream, whether it was due to the repressed academic life or some other obsession, until they witnessed the performance of the Head Choir, and finally they had some clue.
Whether it's the sensational images that stimulate the nerves, the brainwashing verses and repetitive numerical patterns, or the ubiquitous eerie symbols and inexplicable staring behavior, the spirit creates gods in dreams, and all of the above behaviors are proselytizing.
Amidst constant mental pollution, one gradually comes to believe in the life before them, and a secret expectation begins to rise from the depths of their heart: that God truly exists, that they will be the chosen one, and that all fears and differences will disappear.
As for what exactly God is, Xia Zhu temporarily defines it as an unknown fear. When Feng Feng feels real anxiety about the upcoming math class, the seed of God has already been planted in her heart. Her heels are covered in the slime that only corpses have. Feng Mian always forgets what happened last night when she wakes up in the morning. Are these really the ones who are mutating?
Rather than believing that the two people's hearts began to waver and thus changed, Xia Zhu believed that the cause and effect of this matter had been reversed.
The lurking spirit used its ability to create everything to tamper with the two siblings, and then gave them some hints and so-called "clues" to make them believe that they were indeed mutating. Only when they were convinced of this could the evil god invade.
Only then will Feng Mian's body truly undergo changes.
Having clarified Liang's methods, the most crucial aspect is his motive.
Why did he create gods, and what role did he play in them—was he the most devout follower of the Old Gods or simply the Old Gods themselves?
And why would the man who played the role of a teacher also be punished by God and die? If the first student who died was disrespectful to the life created by God, then the teacher was, no matter how you look at it, an extreme follower of God.
The "flying fish-like" corpse corresponds to the boy's disrespectful behavior.
What does the image of the teacher covered with various human heads represent?
These answers may only be found by finding the spirit.
Xia Zhu didn't know when she fell asleep. She only remembered that before falling asleep, she was sorting out the clues about Liang. The various clues were intertwined, like a messy tangled thread. She should have become clearer and more excited the more she sorted them out, but she actually fell asleep.
When I woke up, it was still dark, and the world was in a hazy blue stillness, just like that night when I had to gaze at the moon.
Feng Feng was still fast asleep. She was lying on her side with her back to Xia Zhu, her reddish-brown hair mostly covering her face, and the undulations on her back were regular and gentle.
As long as I can sleep, Xia Zhu thought. No matter how big the problem is, as long as I can get a good night's sleep, it's not too bad.
Even as your vision adjusts in the dark, many things are still not clear, only showing some general outlines. In the dead of night, hearing is always more sensitive than sight.
So just as Xia Zhu was about to get out of bed to wash her face, she heard an extremely faint sound.
It resembled slow breathing, but it didn't belong to herself or Feng Feng on the bed.
She didn't take off her glasses before going to bed. She carefully looked around the room and saw nothing unusual. Just when she thought she had misheard, her eyes fell on the dark front door.
The door was made of old wood and didn't fit the frame very well. Moonlight shone through the gap between the floor and the wooden door, casting a small patch of light into the room.
The door crack should have been a straight line, but now there were two shadows in the middle of the light, as if someone was standing at the door, pressed against the door panel.
The two shadows are very small and would not be noticed unless you look closely.
Xia Zhu tried to calm her breathing and heartbeat, staring motionlessly at the door. Then, under her gaze, the two shadows began to change slowly. The change was too smooth, like some kind of mollusk crawling along the ground, producing a wet and sticky dragging sound. The sound grew farther and farther away, and the shadows grew smaller and smaller, as if they were leaving.
Without further hesitation, she quickly and quietly rolled out of bed and rushed to the door. She opened it and saw a water stain on the floor that stretched all the way to the stairwell and disappeared. She glanced back at the sleeping Feng Feng and took a step out the door.
With just one step, the door behind her instantly retreated and disappeared. The ground remained stable, but everything around her was spinning and changing. When everything stopped, she found herself standing in the middle of the courtyard, by the pond.
The pile of corpses that should have been lying here was gone, and the clear moonlight bathed the entire courtyard, even shrouding the dilapidated building in front of it in a light and white veil.
The courtyard was deserted. Apart from Xia Zhu herself, there was no shadow or anything else. The night breeze, carrying the scent of the sea, rustled the vines and red algae hanging on the exterior walls of the small building. At this moment, the feeling was inexplicably pleasant.
Sea breeze, moonlight, swaying plants, crisp air, and a cloudless sky.
If she weren't in a dream, she would have already gone over and cast a line.
Until the hairs on the back of her head suddenly stood on end for no reason, an unknown fear immediately crept over Xia Zhu's entire body, and every cell in her body was screaming.
"escape!"
With only this one signal from her body, Xia Zhu didn't even have time to think or look back. The moment she received the signal, she took off running towards the stairwell.
All she could think about was running, but she remembered that the building only had three floors, and the number of stairs beneath her feet was well over 68. There was nothing she could do; the oppressive feeling that followed her like a shadow was constantly pressed against her back, and even though it was twenty stories high, she could only keep running and running.
My heart was beating faster and faster, feeling like it was about to exceed my limit. A suffocating feeling spread through my throat, and my whole body felt like it was being drenched in a downpour. But instead of feeling hot, I felt an endless cold.
Xia Zhu kept running and running, passing countless stairwells and corners. Her breathing became so rapid that she could no longer inhale any oxygen. All her actions seemed to be mechanical processes. Before her were constantly changing floors and corners that disappeared and reappeared. Her vision began to blur, and her racing heartbeat no longer seemed to reflect fear, but rather a strange excitement.
Her body, which had reached its limit, began to function again, becoming a hundred times stronger than before. She could easily step up ten flights of stairs, and the passage connecting her mouth to her trachea and lungs seemed to have turned green and become incredibly clear. She believed that her lung capacity must be amazing at this moment.
That feeling of excitement returned.
What exactly is it?
What exactly is pursuing her?
wrong.
A dark shadow appeared in her field of vision, but quickly disappeared around the corner.
What is that?
Xia Zhu clenched his fist and swung his arm, instantly increasing his speed.
What is that?!
Desperate to catch up with that shadowy figure, Feng Feng thought it might be the key to everything, the breakthrough to escape the dream. If he could catch it, Feng Feng would no longer be afraid, and Feng Mian would no longer worry all night that he would become a mindless monster.
I must catch it! Xia Zhu told herself, just like in a 1,500-meter race, the string of victory is right in front of me, and I am ready to sprint.
At the next corner, the figure in front seemed exhausted and staggered slightly.
A smile of triumphant joy unconsciously appeared on Xia Zhu's face.
We're about to catch it.
She stretched out her arm to it.
The dark figure suddenly turned around.
Sweat-drenched hair, a pair of desperate eyes, and pale lips.
It's her own face.
Xia Zhu's heart stopped beating for a second, and she suddenly sat up in bed.
Before dawn, a light rain was still falling outside the window, and the air was filled with a damp smell.
Feng Feng was no longer by his side; everything that had just happened seemed like a dream.
"Xiao Feng?"
She tentatively called out to the person huddled at the foot of the bed.
"Xiao Feng, what's wrong?" She crawled closer to Feng Feng on her knees. In the dim light, Feng Feng stared at Xia Zhu with unusually large eyes, his arms wrapped around his legs in a defensive posture.
"What happened?" Xia Zhu gently placed his hand on hers.
She blinked rapidly a few times, then pointed out the window.
"The body in the yard is gone." The tone was somewhat strange.
"Gone?" Xia Zhu turned her head, and a bluish-gold light began to emanate from where the sea and sky met. The pond in the courtyard was empty in the rain.
"Did you see why it's gone?"
“I see it.” Feng Feng nodded, a strand of hair slipping out from behind his ear and dangling in front of his eyes. “It’s you.”
“You went downstairs last night, wrapped the body in a black cloth, and threw it into the pool.”
