For the past month, Xia Liang has barely had a day off, busy with the franchise store's affairs every day. Even making a phone call to her daughter requires taking a break from her hectic schedule. With the start of school just around the corner, and only two weeks left, Xia Liang was extremely worried. So, she resolutely put aside her work and personally drove to her hometown to pick them up.
Given the long distance, it would be more convenient to drive the Toyota minivan this time. After all, even if Chen Yanling and Duan Wenchun each carried one child, the children wouldn't feel very comfortable in the car. If they had to carry the children for a long time, it would be torture for Duan Wenchun and Chen Yanling.
After a long drive, they finally arrived at their hometown. The first thing Xia Liang's mother-in-law, Han Yulan, said upon seeing her was, "You've lost so much weight! Have you been too busy with work lately? Let me tell you, don't take your youth for granted and neglect your health, or you'll regret it when you get older!" Xia Liang listened to her mother-in-law's loving nagging without feeling annoyed; instead, a warm feeling welled up inside her, making her feel incredibly comforted.
Back in the capital, Xia Liang threw herself back into her busy work. The two children, meanwhile, spent their mornings practicing martial arts with their master or taking the three dogs out to play. Initially, when they first returned, the three dogs were a little distant from the sisters, having been separated for so long. However, after spending the last two days together, they seemed to have regained their former close bond.
On this day, the two sisters, as usual, took their three dogs out for a walk. Just as they entered the alley, they saw an old woman blocking their path. Gu Yunxi initially wanted to greet her, as she recognized the old woman as Grandma Qi, who lived in the alley ahead. Grandma Qi often used to sit under the big tree at the alley entrance to cool off. But today, her eyes were filled with resentment and hatred, making Gu Yunxi afraid to approach.
It turned out that Aunt Qi had come here specifically to wait for Xia Liang's two children. She had been staking out the place for several days and finally discovered that those two brats passed through this alley every day. Even though Xia Liang had expelled her son, she wouldn't let her get away with it.
When she saw the two brats standing there motionless, Aunt Qi's anger flared instantly. She strode forward menacingly, intending to grab them. Gu Yunxi gripped her sister's hand tightly, her eyes anxiously watching the scene ahead. Just as she sensed the situation was turning against her and prepared to pull her sister away, Aunt Qi's pained cry rang out: "Beasts! Let me go, you little beasts!"
Gu Yunxi looked in the direction of the sound and was surprised to find that it was Da Hua, Er Hua, and San Hua. They were biting Qi Da Niang's trouser leg tightly, but they didn't hurt her. They were just dragging her legs so that she couldn't move forward.
Seeing that Aunt Qi was being held back by the dog, the two sisters hurriedly ran towards their home. They ran as fast as they could until they were almost at their doorstep, then stopped and shouted in unison, "Master, open the door quickly! Da Hua, Er Hua, San Hua, come back quickly!"
The two sisters stood at their door, banging on it repeatedly and shouting loudly into the house. Inside, Chen Yanli heard the shouts and, after exchanging a glance with her junior sister Duan Wenchun, immediately ran towards the door.
The moment the two sisters saw their master emerge, the weight that had been hanging over their hearts finally lifted. Chen Yanling and her junior sister Duan Wenchun rushed forward, each picking up one child, and asked with concern, "What happened? Why did you rush home so quickly?"
Gu Yunxi, panting, replied, "Grandma Qi in the alley is really terrifying. I think she's definitely not a good person, right, sister?" She then turned her gaze to Gu Yuanzhi in Duan Wenchun's arms. However, surprisingly, Gu Yuanzhi was frozen in place, silent, her eyes vacant and lifeless. Chen Yanling inwardly cried out in alarm: Oh no, this child is probably terrified!
Once inside, Chen Yanling carefully placed Gu Yunxi on the sofa, then hurriedly picked up the phone and dialed Xia Liang's number, recounting in detail what had just happened. Afterward, she called Liu Ma to take care of Gu Yunxi, and without hesitation, ran towards the alley.
By this time, the alley was crowded with curious onlookers, all drawn by Granny Qi's heart-wrenching cries for help. When they arrived, they found Granny Qi trapped in a predicament—surrounded by three ferocious dogs, her trousers torn to shreds. Some brave souls grabbed sticks to try and drive the dogs away, but despite the blows, they remained clenched and refused to let go. Someone couldn't help but curse, "These wretched beasts are utterly inhuman! Just kill them already!"
Just then, Chen Yanling arrived at the scene, panting. Without fear, she shouted, "Dahua, Erhua, Sanhua, let go!" Miraculously, as if they understood her, the three dogs immediately released Qi Da Niang's trouser leg and happily ran towards Chen Yanling.
Upon seeing familiar faces, the three dogs obediently sat at Chen Yanling's feet. Their fur was smooth, and their eyes were bright, as if they could understand human language. However, upon seeing Chen Yanling, the onlookers felt a surge of dissatisfaction and anger.
They learned that the three dogs came from Xia Liang's family, and Xia Liang had been a controversial figure recently. First, she fired Qi Mingyun without hesitation over a minor conflict; now, something even worse had happened—she had actually allowed her own dogs to bite Aunt Qi!
This behavior is a prime example of the rich being heartless! Everyone condemned Xia Liang for going too far and being too domineering. They believed that as a socially responsible person, one should not treat others like this, especially an elderly person. This despicable act not only hurt Aunt Qi but also plunged the entire alley into tension and unease.
Immediately, public sentiment was high, and people discussed the matter animatedly, expressing their indignation and disappointment at Xia Liang's actions. They decided to unite to maintain harmony and peace in the area and not allow such misconduct to succeed. At the same time, they hoped that through this incident, Xia Liang would recognize his mistakes and take responsibility.
Looking at the indignant and fervent expressions of the crowd before her, Chen Yanling couldn't help but feel a cold laugh. She understood that these people knew nothing of the whole story, yet they were already gossiping and pointing fingers at Director Xia behind his back. They only saw the surface, without delving into the underlying issues. This blind bandwagoning behavior left Chen Yanling feeling utterly helpless and ridiculous. However, she also clearly realized that to change this situation, mere cold laughter was far from enough. Only by letting more people know the truth could the misunderstandings be dispelled and Director Xia's innocence restored. Therefore, Chen Yanling decided to step forward and defend Director Xia.
