Chapter 62
Upon hearing Dazai Osamu's words, Xiao Luo obediently jumped down from the window.
The two who approached the door were warmly welcomed by the children, and Oda Sakunosuke carefully touched Xiao Luo's cheek.
It was warm, and he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Xiao Luo stared at them with wide, curious eyes. She felt that something was off about everyone, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
The sunlight in front of her was blocked by shadows. She subconsciously looked up and smiled happily when she saw Dazai Osamu. "Daddy, Daddy! Do you want to call me Daddy now?"
Dazai Osamu's lips twitched slightly as he gazed at her greedily, asking calmly, "You're still alive? You didn't die back then?"
“She died,” Xiao Luo said honestly. Her honesty made Dazai Osamu’s heart tremble. The child continued, “Then Xiao Luo went back. It hurt so much. Xiao Luo wanted to ask Dazai-nii to fight the bad guys with me, but he said that Daddy could do it. So he told Xiao Luo to come back quickly.”
Dazai Osamu sensed something was amiss upon hearing this. He raised his hand to signal them to stop, and the boy squatted down to look directly at Xiao Luo. "You know he and I aren't the same person, right? Why do you call him 'brother' while still calling me 'father'?"
Xiao Luo also felt something was off. She looked at Dazai Osamu with a hint of looking at him as if he were an idiot. "Dad, I can still tell the difference between my brother and Dad."
Dazai Osamu choked, his thoughts were in turmoil. It couldn't be that his counterpart had fooled the child to avoid raising him, could it?
He thought about it for a moment and realized that he couldn't do something as tasteless as giving birth to someone and then not raising them.
"Why...why did you say your father worked at the detective agency from the beginning?" Dazai Osamu, who had initially been indifferent to this matter, felt he had to find out.
Xiao Luo scratched her head: "Because Dazai works at the detective agency, I thought Dad did too."
Dazai Osamu suffocated. This doesn't make sense, does it? Why is Koro his daughter? He doesn't seem like the type to have a daughter this big.
But this is possible; Xiao Luo, who can travel between worlds and be resurrected, is definitely not a child born normally.
After glancing at Dazai Osamu, who was sulking, Xiao Luo looked up, wanting to find Oda Sakunosuke.
She saw him at the door. The man had brought several chattering children downstairs, making room for them.
Oda Sakunosuke always knew how to maintain boundaries. He looked up and met Xiao Luo's gaze. The child waved happily, signaling him to come over.
Oda Sakunosuke stepped forward and looked at the depressed Dazai and the cheerful Xiaoluo; the contrast between the two was quite striking.
He asked quietly, "What's wrong?"
Xiao Luo nodded vigorously: "Uncle Odasaku! Brother Dazai asked me to tell..."
He hesitated for a moment, wondering who he was supposed to tell, then paused again before declaring without hesitation, "Let me tell you, you're about to kick the bucket."
Oda Sakunosuke: "...Um, thank you?"
He glanced at Dazai Osamu, and although he didn't know what was going on, he still very politely thanked the messenger, Koro.
"You're welcome," the child said happily. "You died a terrible death. You were buried in the little room with Sakura and the others, and you were never fed or clothed. Plus, the chicks were always fighting with you."
Children are masters of lying through their teeth, and Oda Sakunosuke shouldn't have cared, but she just happened to mention Saki and those children.
For some reason, I felt a little flustered. At that moment, Dazai Osamu, who was standing next to me, also raised his head sharply.
He pressed down on the little girl's mouth, which was still chattering happily, and said, "Take back the part you added and start over."
He still believed what Xiao Luo said, because she came from the future.
“…Oh,” Xiaolu silently revised, “Dazai-nii said that Oda-saku-san died a really, really tragic death, along with Saki…”
The child's mouth was pinched into a duck's beak, and the phone was manually turned off.
"Fine, I'll ask and you answer." Dazai Osamu's tone remained calm, so practiced it was heartbreaking.
Xiao Luo felt wronged, but the adults ignored her completely. Dazai Osamu simply and decisively extracted the truth from Xiao Luo's mouth.
Upon hearing that Mori Ougai was the culprit, Dazai Osamu closed his eyes and silently lowered his head.
Oda Sakunosuke looked at him with some concern.
The boy waved his hand to indicate that he was alright, and his face, which he raised again, showed no sign of distress. He simply said to Oda Sakunosuke with some apology, "I'm the one who caused you trouble."
“Dazai,” Oda Sakunosuke stopped his apology. The man looked at him seriously, seeing through his pretense and hesitation. “This is not your problem. You can’t assume it’s your fault just because someone wants to harm you.”
"Dazai, let's run away."
A mafia boss is not so easy to deal with; perhaps Oda Sakunosuke could have assassinated him in the past.
But now he understands that killing is not the best way out; death will only bring more suffering.
"Dazai, I know you can live well anywhere. Since there's no place for us here, let's leave."
At the very least, we can no longer tolerate such tragic accidents as Xiao Luo's. If a little girl can be resurrected, what about the others?
This was something Dazai Osamu could not bear, something he was incapable of enduring.
"...Where to?" Dazai Osamu asked in a low, hoarse voice after a long silence.
"You can try contacting Anwu..."
Oda Sakunosuke's words were interrupted when the child next to him raised his hand, "Looking for Daddy!"
“…Me?” Dazai Osamu tilted his head.
Xiao Luo denied it: "It's not Dad, it's Dad! We can go ask Dad for help."
Dazai Osamu:......
The boy stared at the little girl quietly for a long time, then suddenly grabbed her shoulders and began shaking her violently. "Didn't you say you were my daughter?! You bastard! Who is your father? Who is he?!"
Two hours later,
Because they were worried about the children, they arranged for them to stay at a nearby cafe, accompanied by Oda Sakunosuke.
Dazai Osamu stared expressionlessly at the familiar Armed Detective Agency that had appeared on his desk before.
He pressed down on the little girl's head and said calmly, "Dazai Osamu is no longer here."
"I know!" Xiao Luo ran up, dissatisfied. "But there's Edogawa Ranpo here. My dad is Edogawa Ranpo!"
The door opened, and the boy who had just heard those words opened his eyes in confusion. Edogawa Ranpo tilted his head and put on his glasses.
Then, "Wow! It's Ranpo-sama's daughter!!"
