Chapter 17 Eating Noodles
Yan Kui returned to her room, took out five hundred-yuan bills from her bag, put them in her pocket, and quietly walked to the gate of the neighboring courtyard.
Just as I raised my hand to knock on the door, a friendly voice suddenly came from behind me.
"Hey pretty girl, what are you doing here?"
Yan Kui turned her head and saw the aunt who had been dressed very fashionably before. She was holding a bottle of food that she didn't know what it was, and a fragrant aroma was emanating from the bottle.
Yan Kui jogged over and asked with a smile, "Auntie, what are you carrying?"
"Just call me Aunt Song, that's what the younger generation in the village calls me. This is the meat sauce I made, I'm going to send it to the village chief."
Upon hearing that it was meat sauce, Yan Kui's eyes lit up, and she said in an even more obedient tone, "Aunt Song, this... meat sauce smells so good."
He swallowed hard twice, barely finishing his sentence.
Unable to bear it any longer, Yan Kui spoke up directly: "Aunt Song, could I... have a meal at your house? I can pay for it."
Aunt Song quickly exclaimed "Oh dear!" and laughed, "I completely forgot about that. There's probably nothing to eat at home, isn't there?"
“There are no vendors selling them in our village. We usually grow our own fruits and vegetables for our own consumption. If we want to buy anything, we have to ride our bikes to the town.”
She took Yan Kui's hand and said, "I'm here at your aunt's house today. I'll cook you a nice meal. Come on over."
After saying that, he led Yan Kui to the courtyard of the house with red couplets pasted on it.
As soon as Yan Kui entered the door, she saw a yard full of vegetables and fruits, hanging heavily on the branches.
"Aunt Song, did you grow all of these yourselves?"
"Yes, my husband grew them. He loves doing these things, but he's not home lately. Sit on the sofa for a while, and I'll go get you something to eat."
Yan Kui walked into the house and sat on a somewhat old-fashioned sofa. She reached out and touched it, and felt a warm touch on her fingertips.
Aunt Song took a bag of mung bean cakes from the kitchen. They were still unopened. She tore them open in front of Yan Kui, and some crumbs fell out.
"Pretty girl, you eat this first, I'll go cook you a bowl of noodles."
Yan Kui was also very hungry. She nodded, grabbed a piece of bread, and stuffed it into her mouth.
Aunt Song smiled and poured her a glass of water before going into the kitchen to boil water and cook noodles.
Yan Kui ate two large mung bean cakes in one go and then drank a lot of water before the hunger in her stomach gradually disappeared.
A short while later, Aunt Song came out with a bowl of fragrant noodles, topped with a golden-brown poached egg and a few green vegetable leaves.
Yan Kui stirred it with chopsticks, revealing a lot of meat sauce hidden underneath.
She was almost overwhelmed by the aroma; she had never found a bowl of noodles so delicious.
Yan Kui didn't even have time to be polite, and ate the noodles in big mouthfuls.
It smells so good, it's absolutely delicious.
Suddenly, a man ran in from outside. Yan Kui's cheeks were already bulging from stuffing her face with noodles. She looked up at him.
It was that blond guy who refused to give her a ride that day!
The blond-haired man saw her too and exclaimed in surprise, "Beautiful lady, what are you doing in my house?"
Yan Kui quickly swallowed the noodles in her mouth, took a sip of water, and after catching her breath, asked, "This...this is your home?"
"yes."
The blond-haired man skillfully sat down in a slightly peeling black chair and called out to the kitchen, "Mom!"
Aunt Song came out carrying the bottle of meat sauce from earlier and said irritably, "Spit it out if you have something to say."
Huang Mao grinned and asked his mother, "Why did you invite a beautiful woman over for dinner? Why didn't you tell me beforehand so I could come home earlier?"
"What are you talking to? You non-mainstream person who wants to see pretty girls? Take this bottle of meat sauce to the village chief's house and stop getting in the way."
Yan Kui coughed twice and said, "Aunt Song, you can just call me Yan Kui..."
Aunt Song put on a smiling face again and said, "Oh, the 'kui' in 'Little Sunflower,' right? Haha."
Suddenly, the blond-haired man stood up and said, "Hello! My name is Huang Chengzhi! You can call me A-Cheng!"
Aunt Song poked his forehead with one finger and said, "Don't all the villagers call you Yellow Hairy? I thought you'd forgotten your own name. You're such a worry!"
As Yan Kui watched the mother and son talking, she silently ate the rest of the noodles.
It feels so good to be full.
