Chapter 37 Free Meal
Huang Mao Mao spoke softly to Yan Kui, "Did you make Brother Yin angry?"
Yan Kui frowned her pretty eyebrows, glancing at Wei Yin from time to time before quickly looking away: "No, I didn't provoke him."
Then she remembered that she had mentioned Wei Yin the day she pasted the windowpanes, and thought to herself, "This person isn't that petty, is he?"
Yan Kui tentatively peeked into the kitchen, and wow!
A double-door refrigerator, a brand-new gas stove, and even the stovetop is decorated like those in big cities.
In this village, which is basically isolated from the outside world, it appears particularly grand.
So Yan Kui made a decision.
She'll be coming over to freeload meals all the time!
Desire triumphed over reason. Casting aside the distorted thoughts in her mind, Yan Kui suppressed her initial panic and spoke:
"Brother Yin, I really admire your cooking skills!"
"That day was truly the most delicious meal of my life, and now I relive the taste of that crayfish every night before I go to bed."
Wei Yin scoffed at her obsequious words.
But I feel a little better now.
Yan Kui spoke again: "So, can I eat here today?"
Wei Yin took the steamed sausage out of the pot, and Yan Kui immediately smelled the aroma of smoke and oil.
Back when she lived in Nanshi, Yan Kui would never have eaten these pickled foods.
But now, she finds the taste particularly tempting.
Wei Yin curled the corners of his lips into a slightly teasing smile:
"Eat if you're not afraid of dying."
Her tone was still not very friendly, but she did not refuse Yan Kui's offer to have dinner together.
Seeing that Yan Kui had finished the task he had asked him to do, Huang Maomao didn't linger any longer: "Alright, you two eat, I'm going home. My mom cooked my favorite fish today."
"I'll go first."
When Yan Kui heard Huang Maomao say that his family was having fish today, she couldn't help but swallow hard.
If it weren't for Aunt Song's enthusiasm and kindness, which made Yan Kui feel a little guilty, she would have really wanted to go eat some fish.
Wei Yin carried the dishes over and saw Yan Kui looking reluctant to part with them.
"Want to go? Then hurry up and go."
Yan Kui immediately snapped out of her daze and, seeing Wei Yin's displeased expression, quickly said, "No, I still want to eat what you make, Brother Yin. It smells so good."
Without waiting for Wei Yin to speak again, she went straight to the kitchen, grabbed a bowl and chopsticks, filled the rice cooker with rice, and handed it to Wei Yin.
Wei Yin took the rice that she had filled to the brim and stopped talking.
Yan Kui found a small stool and sat opposite Wei Yin, unsure of what to say.
Without Huang Maomao around, the atmosphere between the two seemed a bit awkward.
Yan Kui couldn't care less about anything else right now. She had finally gotten a meal, so she quickly picked up a piece of shredded pork with garlic sauce and started eating.
Wei Yin's cooking is really delicious; that was Yan Kui's first conclusion.
Peeking up at Wei Yin, who was eating elegantly and calmly across from her, Yan Kui, as if possessed, picked up a piece of bok choy and put it into Wei Yin's bowl.
Wei Yin was slightly taken aback, but didn't say anything. He picked up the heart of the cabbage, put it in his mouth, and ate it.
Yan Kuixin felt relieved.
After swallowing the food in her mouth, she said, "Can I come here again in the future? Fast food is really not good."
His tone was aggrieved and helpless.
Yan Kui felt that she had experienced all the hardships she hadn't endured in her previous twenty-two years here.
Wei Yin looked at Yan Kui across from him, whose eyes were a little red and moist.
It's rare that he wasn't sarcastic.
"Come over if you want to eat, I'll make more."
Yan Kui was overjoyed upon hearing this and quickly said, "I can pay for my meals. How much would be appropriate each month?"
Upon hearing this, Wei Yin's face visibly darkened.
Yan Kui immediately realized she might have said something wrong and corrected herself, "I can come and help. I'll assist you with cooking from now on."
Wei Yin finished the last piece of chicken in his bowl, stood up, glanced at Yan Kui with a nonchalant look, and looked away before Yan Kui noticed: "Don't make things worse."
