Save the Wolf

Save the Wolf

"Why not go?" Xia Zhitang looked at Lin Jingming, somewhat puzzled.

"I'm afraid you'll fight a wolf again." Lin Jingming noticed that Xia Zhitang still didn't seem to be afraid. "That's a wolf, a wild wolf!"

"Bring more equipment, and don't leave the team next time." Xia Zhitang was furious when he thought about him suddenly going off on his own during filming. He picked up a pillow and threw it at him, "Do you have any sense of safety? You left the team without saying a word and went on your own."

Lin Jingming knew he was in the wrong and dodged away without saying a word.

"You still know how to hide?" Xia Zhitang's anger that had been forgotten deep in his memory was aroused. He picked up the pillow that fell to the ground and chased Lin Jingming to beat him.

"Why didn't you run faster? Did you know the wolf was almost catching up to you?"

Lin Jingming was cornered by Xia Zhitang. He curled up, protecting his face and chest and not daring to resist.

Xia Zhitang was tired of smashing, and the anger that had been stuck in his chest was finally released.

She threw away the pillow with a gasp, tears of fear welling up in her eyes again.

When Lin Jingming saw the man who was angry just now suddenly turned around with his head down, he thought to himself that something was wrong.

He sighed and put his arm around Xia Zhitang's shoulders: "I'm sorry, I won't do it again next time."

"Apologizing is useless!" Xia Zhitang struggled to shake off his hand.

"Don't be angry. This is the reason why I asked you whether you want to continue with the next shooting plan." Lin Jingming picked up Xia Zhitang and carried him sideways.

"Let me go, can't you just talk properly!" Xia Zhitang had two tears hanging from the corners of her eyes, and she hammered Lin Jingming's chest.

Lin Jingming gently placed the person on the card mat: "Tangtang, you must be prepared for us to encounter this kind of life-threatening danger again at any time."

"Don't call me Tangtang, it's disgusting." Xia Zhitang huddled in the corner with his arms around him, trying to stay away from Lin Jingming.

Lin Jingming grabbed her feet and pulled her back: "Answer the questions properly."

"Then ask nicely." Xia Zhitang pried his hands apart.

Lin Jingming narrowed his eyes and stretched out his hand to block her waist: "If you and I could die at any time, are you still going?"

"Lin Jingming, what will you do if I decide not to go?" Xia Zhitang lowered his eyes and didn't look at him.

Lin Jingming actually had no way to answer. He came to discuss with Xia Zhitang because he didn't know the answer.

Xia Zhitang suddenly smiled. She looked up at Lin Jingming and said, "My answer is not important, Lin Jingming. Don't impose your choice on mine."

She stood up and pulled Lin Jingming up: "You are shifting the blame."

Xia Zhitang pushed Lin Jingming's waist and walked him out the door: "Think about the answer clearly and come back to ask me."

"Wait." Lin Jingming wanted to say something, but was greeted by the sound of Xia Zhitang closing the door.

At 12 o'clock in the morning, Xia Zhitang, who had just warmed himself in the quilt, reluctantly reached out from under the quilt to pick up his cell phone.

Lin Jingming's phone number was flashing on the screen.

"Speak." Xia Zhitang turned over and curled himself into the quilt as much as possible.

"My answer is to proceed as planned." Lin Jingming's voice came from the cold phone, but his voice was magnetic. "What's your answer?"

"Go! Although death is terrifying, I'll regret it forever if I don't." Xia Zhitang couldn't help but yawn. "Doji has some new equipment. Let's do another emergency survival training before we leave to minimize the risk."

"Xia Zhitang, you are so reckless." Lin Jingming's chuckle came from the other end of the phone.

"Lin Jingming, you too." Xia Zhitang hung up the phone, threw the phone away, and curled up in the quilt to prepare for sleep.

Lin Jingming listened to the busy tone on the phone and slowly looked up at the stars outside the window.

At this moment, he really wanted to kiss her.

In the sapphire-like lake of Zharin Nam Co, bar-headed geese and black-necked cranes are circling in pairs in the sky.

The riverbed is covered with yak footprints. They will take a short rest here before continuing to cross the mountains to the relatively warm winter pastures.

The filming team met up here with the scientific research team that came to observe, and followed the scientific research team, carrying equipment and climbing up the dizzying rocks.

While breathing oxygen, they filmed the herd of yaks jumping nimbly among the rocks.

After separating from the scientific researchers, they arrived at the Shiquan River Valley, their winter migration destination.

Compared with the bare rocky mountains along the way, the banks of the river valley here are covered with golden sea buckthorn, and the air seems to emit a smell of wine.

Because the climate here is more suitable for the survival of animals and plants and the population is sparse, Doji is more cautious than before - the bushes are the best cover for hunters.

Fortunately, no accidents happened this time. Lin Jingming breathed a sigh of relief and directed everyone to start the return journey.

Doji chose a sheltered high ground beside the road to camp. After tonight they would be able to return to the safe city.

Lin Jingming finally became obedient after he tried to climb over to the bed and hold Xia Zhitang while he slept, but ended up seeing Xia Zhitang pull out the Tibetan knife that gleamed with cold light from under the pillow and used it to fight off the wolves.

Lin Jingming couldn't sleep as he listened to the whistling wind outside the tent and the faint fragrance emanating from Xia Zhitang's body.

"The last day." He spoke in the darkness.

"Um?"

"This is the last day of our outdoor shooting." Lin Jingming felt overwhelmed with emotion but didn't know where to start.

"What are your thoughts, great director?" Xia Zhitang couldn't sleep himself, so he just chatted with Lin Jingming.

"Freedom, real freedom!" Lin Jingming sat up. "Although I have no control over what I can photograph, there are always new and interesting things to capture!"

"I can still fish while waiting for materials to come to me, right?" Xia Zhitang thought of the first day they arrived at the Shiquan River Valley. After they took pictures of the scenery and set up the tent, they still had time to go fishing by the lake.

"This is called combining work and rest, experiencing the local customs firsthand." Lin Jingming unconsciously wrapped himself in a blanket and crawled over to Xia Zhitang. "Next, I want to go look around the temple to see if there are any authoritative legends related to yaks."

The two chatted in the tent for more than an hour before going to bed.

The next day, when everyone was getting up to pack up their tents, a cry of surprise came from the camera: "Blood!"

Duoji quickly pulled out his stun gun, while Qin Ming began searching for his tranquilizer gun. They cautiously approached the bloodstain with their weapons in hand.

"Fresh blood." Doji said with a serious expression, "Quickly pack up and load the car. Fresh blood will easily attract wolves."

The two followed the bloodstains and finally found a wolf cub with bared teeth under a tent.

The blue film on its eyes had not yet completely faded, and the hair on its front paws was stained with lingering blood.

Doggie waved the electric baton in an attempt to drive away the wolf cubs.

"Wait." Xia Zhitang suddenly called out to Duoji, "Can you save him?"

"This is a wolf!" Doji looked at the bared cub fiercely, "It's not a harmless puppy from the city."

"Just disinfect it, stop the bleeding, and apply medicine," Qin Ming replied. "But even if we treat it, it may not survive the winter. It looks like it has become separated from its pack, and it will be hard for it to survive without a mother wolf to take care of it."

"Is there a rescue station nearby that can take it in?"

"There's none nearby, Miss Xia. Wolves eat yaks and meat. Didn't you and Director Lin almost get attacked by wolves last time?" Duoji looked at Lin Jingming for help. "What we should do now is leave as soon as possible."

"Everyone, quickly pack up your tents and move your things into the car first." Lin Jingming drove away the cameramen who were still watching the excitement.

"Miss Xia, if you can't bear it, just leave some water for it. The mountain god will give it guidance." Doji was still persuading. Whether as a herdsman or as a guide, he and the wild wolf were naturally in opposition.

"Survival of the fittest is the truth." Xia Zhitang looked at Lin Jingming, "But saving the weak when you can is compassionate."

"It has no ability to harm us now." Lin Jingming looked at Duoji. "The wolf is also a link in the chain of life. It eats meat for survival, not for sin."

The sound of wolves howling was heard in the distance. The little wolf cub pricked up his ears and suddenly started howling excitedly.

"It's calling for its companions." Doji's face turned pale. "Hurry, pack up and get in the car."

"Put down the equipment first, then the supplies, and leave everything else alone." Lin Jingming quickly gave the order, "If you see a pack of wolves with your naked eyes, get in the car immediately."

Doji waved the electric shock at the wolf cub viciously, scaring the wolf cub so much that its fur stood on end.

"Ten thousand." Xia Zhitang suddenly said, "To save it, each of you will get ten thousand. If there is any danger, retreat immediately. No pressure."

The three looked at Xia Zhitang in shock.

Doji was a little hesitant, because the wolf cub alone was worth several days' wages for him.

Qin Ming looked at Xia Zhitang and then at Duoji. He wanted to save the wolf cub, but he didn't dare to touch it without anyone's cooperation.

Lin Jingming suddenly smiled: "If you successfully stop the bleeding, you'll get 5,000 yuan per person, and if you successfully bandage the wound, you'll get another 5,000 yuan."

"If I see a wolf pack, I'll retreat immediately." Doji took the opportunity to negotiate terms. "If they scratch me, I'll have to pay for medical treatment."

"Okay." Lin Jingming agreed readily.

Qin Ming took out the medicine box and prepared the tools.

Xia Zhitang filled a cup with water and put a piece of dried yak in the cup.

Lin Jingming snatched her quilt and carefully placed it in front of the wolf cub.

The wolf cub, who had been baring his teeth at everyone, whimpered when he smelled the aroma of the food and began to eat it voraciously.

Doji took the opportunity to hold the wolf cub's neck, and the wolf cub tried to struggle without even caring about its flesh.

Xia Zhitang was about to go forward to help, but Lin Jingming pulled her back and went over to help hold down the wolf cub's hind legs.

Qin Ye quickly stepped forward and poured disinfectant to sprinkle medicine on the wolf cub.

The wolf cub cried out in pain and struggled even harder.

"Hurry up and move the things." Xia Zhitang stopped the cameraman who was about to step forward to help.

After the pain, the wolf cub seemed to realize something. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he stopped struggling.

"Give me the drone." Xia Zhitang called out to the cameraman.

She released the machine and stared at the screen to observe her surroundings.

As the howling of wolves approached, the cameraman hurriedly stuffed the last tent into the car.

"You guys get in the car first." Xia Zhitang watched the wolves gradually coming down the slope on the screen. "The wolves are almost at the foot of the mountain."

Qin Ming's forehead was sweating, but his hands were still steady as he held the bandage and wrapped it around the wolf cub.

"Go!" The wolves could be seen looming in the distance with the naked eye.

Everyone immediately turned around and rushed into the car, driving several hundred meters before stopping.

"It went with the wolf pack." Xia Zhitang watched the monitor show a wolf carrying its cub running towards the mountains, and flew back using the drone.

"This segment can be used as a behind-the-scenes footage." Lin Jingming said with a smile.

Qin Ming was wiping his glasses while Doji took out a prayer wheel and chanted.

The sun shines through the thin clouds onto this vast wilderness, and a new cycle of life and death continues to unfold in an orderly manner.
