Chapter 19: What's this on the platform?
Most of the strategic departments are just nerds who talk about strategy on paper. This is almost the consensus among the other three major departments of Kagano.
"If he wants to use this opportunity to gain attention and boost his popularity, he's really picked the wrong person."
Ava's eyes narrowed into slits as she smiled, and her voice was filled with a gloating tone that sounded inconsistent with her sweet face.
She seemed to have no interest in taking another look, and raised her chin proudly as she prepared to leave, but she noticed that the person next to her had no intention of following her.
Lorion's eyes moved, his attention shifted away from downstairs, and he lifted his eyelids to glance at her.
"He doesn't look like a fool."
"You're quite optimistic about him?"
"intuition."
"Well, I don't mind wasting a little time with you."
Ava stopped in her tracks and put on a malicious smile. "Rather than pretending to be a brother and sister, I prefer to see your silly look when your expectations are dashed."
When a troublemaker like Calix goes crazy, no one can suppress him, let alone fight him one-on-one with force.
Perhaps they were happy to watch a self-humiliating show, or perhaps they were holding onto the hope of "what if?", the crowds surrounding the platform were unprecedentedly lively.
Youan took out the lightsaber that Lancelot gave him from his bag, installed a limiter on the hilt to reduce the lethality, took off his coat and changed into combat clothes.
Calix leaned aside with his arms folded, watching him meticulously complete his pre-match preparations with interest. Suddenly, he stared at his face and asked, "You won't cry if you lose, will you?"
Youan strapped the lightsaber to his waist, recalled for a moment and shook his head: "No, I haven't cried for a long time."
"Remember what you said."
Calix raised his chin and flicked his tail behind him, looking at the circular area on the platform with a radius of only one meter. "Don't say you're bullying the Strategic Department. How about this? Force me out of this designated area and you win."
Is there such a good thing?
It feels like it could end early.
You An nodded in agreement and added seriously, "Thank you, I took advantage of you."
Like a sharp knife inserted into a ball of soft cotton, even Calix's interest in provoking him faded.
"I hope you'll let me have a good time."
As his hoarse voice drifted out, the sound of heavy boots landed in the circular red zone. At that moment, the honest freshman from the Strategic Studies Department took the lead in launching an attack amid the exclamations of the crowd.
"Zheng!"
The two lightsabers collided, and Calix reacted quickly and blocked with one hand, trying to use the force to push down, but was deflected by Youan's raised left hand.
They were too close, so Youan raised his sword with his backhand, grasped the hilt and struck the other man's uncovered chin.
Calix leaned back to avoid the kick, and a leg kicked towards his abdomen. The intention to kick him out of the red zone was too obvious, and he was so angry that he snorted and laughed, holding his ankle with one hand.
Before he could lift the man up and throw him off the stage, Youan used the momentum to jump up and kicked Calix in the neck with a high whip kick.
The leg was long and well-proportioned, like the lines carefully drawn by a master, but the accumulated explosive power should not be underestimated, bursting out with incredible strength.
Calix had no choice but to raise his arms to perform a cross-block, but was knocked back two steps and stabilized at the edge of the red zone.
In just a moment, the people in the audience were still staring at Youan's long legs wrapped in combat uniform, and the first tentative fight between the two sides was over.
It was a pretty nice combo. If it were a newbie with a slower reaction, he would probably be kicked away before he could even react.
Calix's eyes lit up with interest, and he rubbed the hilt of his sword with his fingertips. "I've changed my mind. Now I really want to see you cry."
What a strange habit.
Youan adjusted his breathing and muttered silently in his heart. Soon, the sword moved with him to block the light blade swung by Biquan.
Even in the high-tech era, Kagano students who received orthodox education would not be satisfied with relying on mechas and firearms to fight, because no one could guarantee that they would not run out of ammunition and food on the battlefield.
In terms of size and attack power alone, Yuan is no match for Calix. Just the two of them standing there, the obvious size difference makes people doubt whether Yuan can be killed by Calix's punch.
But his flat, narrow waist and abdomen had the toughness of a young eagle, and his moves were extremely agile. Anyone could see that he was no show-off.
“Clang, clang, clang!”
The light blades were shattered in the collision, and Biluo's quantum circuit glowed all over, and the energy storage nodes flickered imperceptibly.
Youan narrowed his eyes slightly, and when his thoughts were distracted for a moment, he hurriedly dodged the arc-shaped light blade and was kicked several meters away by Calix.
"Hmm."
He rolled on the ground several times and quickly got up to avoid the continuous light blades.
These green arcs suddenly burst into flames along the body of his sword, and with the final blow, his sword was knocked away.
Taking advantage of the situation, Youan jumped out of Calix's attack range, his lips moving slightly, as if he was counting something silently.
A drop of sweat rolled across the small mole on the bridge of the nose and dripped like dew. Some young and energetic orc students in the audience swallowed involuntarily like travelers thirsty for water in the desert.
"Rabbit has really grown up! When he first started doing physical training, he was just a suffocating little bastard!"
"Why are you holding a sword? Please take off your clothes and fight hand to hand!"
"He could have rested right at the edge, so why did he insist on stopping there to catch the blade? Now the sword is gone."
"Tsk, seeing a career fan and a sex addict in the same place, I knew I was in the right place."
Youan wiped the sweat off his forehead, and his rapid breathing caused the thin muscles on his waist and abdomen to rise and fall slightly.
The non-stop special training every day was indeed difficult to endure, especially since he had a teacher who pursued perfection, always had a kind and gentle smile on his face, and left no room for him to break through his limits.
Fortunately, Youan always believed that difficulties would not be avoided by escaping, and now it seems that there has been some progress.
Youan raised his face, his pupils shining like burning flames. He quickly kicked up the lightsaber on the ground and held it in his hand to block the oncoming attack.
"Wow, you're pretty quick."
Kalix's sharp lips curved upward, and he chopped down with all his might.
Even though his range of movement was restricted, Youan was still no match for Calix, but when it came to his understanding of weapons, no one could compare to him.
The green spring swept over, and in that instant—
The angle at which the sword blade fell, the energy consumed, and the damage caused were all clearly visible to Youan.
Taking advantage of the moment of blocking, he gripped the hilt of the sword with his left hand and twisted it. A dagger was unsheathed from the lightsaber, and the fierce blade illuminated Calix's eyes.
It's a modified product!
Where will he cut?
Neck? Chest? My stomach?
Countless ways of dodging flashed through Calix's mind, but he saw that the dagger had no skill at all and pierced through the end of one of Biquan's quantum circuits cleanly and neatly.
"What a great opportunity! What is he doing!"
Just as everyone was sighing with regret, the green spring in Calix's hand suddenly became uncontrollable, and endless energy rushed through the quantum circuit like blood vessels.
"Damn! The energy storage node exploded!"
Someone in the audience exclaimed, and then—
A silent shock wave suddenly spread out, forming green ripples visible to the naked eye, rushing towards the honeycomb-shaped transparent walls surrounding the platform.
As everyone stared in disbelief, Calix was blown away by the overloaded energy, and looked with an almost frozen astonishment at the dwarf rabbit who had hidden in the corner with two lightsabers, one long and one short.
A little bit of talent, a lot of effective hard work, and a very smart rabbit brain...it turns out that this combination is quite effective.
There was a dead silence all around, but suddenly someone started the applause and the whole place burst into thunderous applause.
Euan won.
He stood there, looking around blankly, his face getting a little hot that he couldn't control.
What should I do now?
The rabbit ears on his head moved, and Youan raised his hands high and waved mechanically as if he had suddenly been powered on.
There was a crisp clang sound.
He looked down and saw that the green lightsaber was thrown at his feet, dim and making a low buzzing sound.
Calix covered the wound on his arm, propped himself up and sat up, leaning against the corner, breathing expressionlessly.
"It's up to you."
He took one last look at the sword, turned his head away, and raised the corner of his mouth indifferently.
Now, many people who were kicked off the stage by Calix stretched their necks, and inevitably connected their brain waves -
Haha, you have come to this day too.
They expected Youan to smash Biquan into pieces and then crush it under his feet, just like Calix did to others.
Calix didn't care. If he lost, he lost. There was nothing to say. But to say that he didn't feel ashamed, he was not yet at the level of being indifferent.
Just when he was feeling depressed, he caught a glimpse of You An picking up the Biquan.
Calix frowned: "What do you mean?"
"The weapon is my companion. I can't bear to damage it again. Besides, it looks so good."
Youan wiped it with his sleeve, stuffed it back into Calix's arms, and recommended it sheepishly, "If you need it repaired, you can find [Ghost] on the Dungeon Trading Network. He's a conscientious merchant with very good skills."
Kalix looked a little strange: "That's it?"
"Oh, give me the money. Double hourly wage is 300 White Orchid coins. How do you want to pay it?"
“…”
The light screen of the payment notification flickered for a moment and then disappeared. Youan was used to the malfunction of the optical computer and jumped off the battle stage with his bag on his back.
Kalix sat there, as if in a daze, and his hurried back disappeared from his sight.
Damn, why are you trying to be cool?
He stared down at Biquan, raised the corners of his lips and sneered, and was pushed by the healing group who came over from the audience.
"what?"
"Let me remind you that your hand is bleeding."
"Oh, stop it for a moment."
Calix seemed to have come to his senses and offered his arm to the other party.
High up on the platform, Lorion and Ava leaned on the fence and witnessed an outcome that was not what they expected.
Lorion seemed oblivious to his sister's unhappy expression as he straightened her braid that had stray hairs. Then, in an unusually calm tone, he whispered in Ava's ear:
"You seemed to have told a fresh joke just now."
…
"How humorous! When did the club's snack become hard bread?"
The idle rich young men dropped the cards in their hands, glanced at the plates beside the game table, and complained loudly in disgust.
"Stop, stop, stop... Gentlemen, I'm not some ruthless boss who'd cheat you out of money." Quan Yi cut off a small piece of cheese, skillfully sandwiched it between the bread, and took a vicious bite. "God knows where Lance got this from, a whole bag full of it, and I haven't even finished it yet!"
"What do you mean by that?"
Lancelot took off his coat, wearing a thin black shirt with a half-high collar, and leaned back in his chair in a relaxed manner.
He showed a look of betrayal, his tone filled with strong condemnation of a naive person. "Whole grains are so healthy. I was thinking about your stomach, which has been soaked in alcohol. Look at the people here. Who can think of this thoughtfully?"
If the fox's tail didn't twitch happily, it could be called brotherly love.
Quan Yi almost fainted from anger: "Thank you so much!"
He swept his arm across like a compass, his fingertips sweeping across everyone present. "Eat! Eat it all! None of you can escape!"
The friends laughed along, not knowing whether to praise Quan Yi's virtue of saving food or condemn the bad behavior of the bad fox.
At this time, a waiter approached and handed the exquisite package in his hand to the red-haired noble at the end of the long gaming table.
"Mr. Vanser, the optical computer you ordered has arrived."
"Oh, thank you."
Lancelot took the box, opened it and took a look, then raised an eyebrow in satisfaction.
The optical computer is a multifunctional intelligent device used by the Federation and the Orc Galaxy. Most models look like a small core block and are usually embedded in accessories such as bracelets and brooches to facilitate interaction through the projection of a holographic screen.
The optical computer in Lancelot's hand was obviously not bought for himself, because the same model was embedded in his ring.
Quan Yi was puzzled: "I haven't heard that you have to stock up on optical computers when you need them."
"It's for Youan. I don't know where he got this junky thing from. It doesn't look very useful. Even the loaded files have double images... Could it be that rabbits' eyes are special? Anyway, his eyesight wasn't affected. Thank goodness..."
Lancelot closed the box, took out a gold-rimmed ribbon from somewhere, wrapped it around the decoration several times, and then tied an extravagant and exquisite bow in the center of the top of the box.
He proudly tossed it into the air a few times and caught it steadily in his palm. "Look, not bad, right?"
"How thoughtful! You've been like a dad training class lately. You're becoming more and more competent."
Enzo teased with a drawl, twisting the card in the middle with his fingertips, and with a flick of his tail, he pulled away Quan Yi, who was staggering with laughter.
Lancelot frowned slightly, puzzled by his strange description: "This is nothing... just a trivial little gift."
As soon as he finished speaking, the door of the box was pushed open.
Someone started shouting, "You're so slow! You almost missed the fun here."
"I've seen enough good shows, gentlemen."
The man was still wearing his training clothes, which he hadn't changed into yet. He sat down, drank a glass of wine, and excitedly talked about the wonderful fight just now.
"Yuan was dragged onto the opposite platform by Calix. The training ground is turning into a concert. If I stay any longer, the screams will burst my eardrums!"
The tilted glass was placed against the bottle mouth, and dark red wine poured in.
Hearing the familiar name, Lancelot's hand that picked up the bottle of wine trembled and the wine almost spilled out.
"Euan? And Calix? The yellow-haired one?!"
"Yes, that's right, it's the baby rabbit you took such good care of."
There seemed to be a crack on that handsome face that was always smiling, and Lancelot felt as if a string in his brain was stretched to a critical point.
As if he found the other person's reaction amusing, he simply exaggeratedly described the exciting scene on the training ground.
"He won so beautifully that he almost drove that fellow Calix crazy."
Snap——
The glass suddenly shattered in Lancelot's hand, splashing the cold dark red wine and scattering the entire table with fingernail-sized fragments.
"Oh My God!"
Quan Yi was startled, and the chair legs scraped against the floor with a sharp sound. Everyone looked over. Although he knew that the attention was not on him, he still coughed twice awkwardly to clear his throat.
"Don't get excited, sir."
Enzo casually swept away the wine-stained debris in front of him, pushed the man back into his seat, and said lightly, "It's nothing, just some glass shards."
