Chapter 399: Judgment (Part 2)
"Traitor! He is a traitor to the Alliance! Grand Lord! Did you see that he has been colluding with the orcs?" Barthilas immediately attacked Fording when he found an opportunity.
"Shut up!" Dathrohan pointed at Barthilas and scolded him. Turning his head, Dathrohan gritted his teeth and looked at Fording. He had no idea what he had just heard. He knew that Fording was the one who valued honor the most among the paladins and the one who followed the principles the most. When he received the report, he felt that this incident was possible. He also knew that there were orcs who had never hurt humans. For Fording, if this orc had not hurt humans, he would not hurt him. However, he never thought and never dared to think that Fording would dare to disobey his superiors and support humanity's mortal enemy.
"Tirio, I have been trying my best to remain patient. Obviously, you are completely confused about this creature. I don't care what you and he believe happened. If you don't give up this extremely absurd idea, I will be forced to arrest you and interrogate you for treason! You must stop this meaningless behavior immediately! Immediately! Immediately!" Dathrohan shouted at Fording, but unlike his voice, his eyes were all pleading, begging Fording to change his mind.
However, Fording's stubbornness exceeded his imagination: "Asshole! Sayida! This is about the honor of a knight. Don't you understand! I am saving my savior!"
"Shut up!" Dathrohan breathed heavily, and ordered the soldiers to hold Fording down. "You left me no choice. I must arrest you for treason! Come! Tie him up and send him to Stratholme with the orc for trial!"
As there was only one prisoner cart, Fording had to be tied to a horse and guarded by two soldiers. After a while, Dathrohan walked up to Fording and looked at his old friend.
"Tirion, can't you just relax? You can just say you're scared!"
Fording looked at Dathrohan firmly and said, "You and I are both paladins of the Holy Light. You should remember the doctrines we should abide by."
Dathrohan sighed, "But, if you say so in the cathedral, you will lose your life!"
"I never thought that I would live to this day. If it weren't for this orc, I would have died long ago."
"You!" Dathrohan pointed at him, angrily. "Stubborn! You are so damn stubborn! No one cares about you!"
"Return immediately!" Dathrohan jumped on his horse, frowning and shouting. He didn't know how to help his good friend. Sometimes the one in the Knights' Order was even more stubborn than this one.
Stratholme was not far from here, and Fordring was taken there half a day later and imprisoned, but his trial was not immediate.
Tirion sat in a small cell next to the trial hall, where his trial would take place. There was only one small window in the entire cell, no bigger than Fordring's head, from which he could hear the sounds of business and the activities in the noisy and busy market of Stratholme. Occasionally, he could hear the sound of continuous knocking coming from the great square. The noise of this city was very different from the relaxed and cheerful rural noise of Hearthstone. He strongly wished to go back there now. He had no idea how his trial would go, but he knew clearly that whatever happened in court, his life would be changed irrevocably. He thought of his family, and the life of affluence and leisure he had shared with them. Left alone, he wondered if he had abandoned them all, with a strange fantasy of only caring about himself. It was hard to tell if he regretted it.
Fording had been in custody for three days. Today he would be tried for betraying the land he had spent his life defending. He knew this was the outcome the moment he stood up, and depending on the case decided by the court, he could face either execution or life in prison. He wondered if he would forgive himself if his wife was forced to raise their children alone. He laughed at himself softly. He had always believed that the only thing that could stand between him and the people he loved was an enemy. What did I do wrong? Fording never figured this out.
Tap, tap,
tap The footsteps were getting closer and closer. Fording was a little confused. How could anyone come when it wasn't time for the trial yet? The latch clicked and the door opened. It was his captain, Alton.
Alton walked into the room depressed. Fording was a little happy and shook his friend's hand up and down.
"It's nice to see you, Alton. Have you been home since I was arrested? Have you talked to my wife?"
Alton shook his head: "No, they didn't let me visit your family, and I don't know if your wife, Calandra, was told."
"Then, what about the orc?"
Why do you care, Tirio? It's your enemy! I don't understand why you care so much about it! "That creature could never have saved your life! It's a brainless brute!" Alton cursed.
"Just answer me, Captain," Fording said as calmly as he could. He looked Alton in the eyes, and he had to watch his tone. Alton might be the only person he had left who could talk.
"They've been interrogating the creature for the past few nights," Alton said. "You can tell from his nerves that it hasn't told them anything they didn't already know. I heard some of the local guards bragging about how they beat it to death. They even planned to strangle the despicable beast in the square tomorrow morning. "
Fordyn's heart sank. The old orc was going to die, and it was all because of him. It was all his fault. He wanted to make amends now, but how could he do it? He was still in prison.
Alton sensed Fordyn's nervousness and whispered, "My lord, they may execute you for this. If you confess and say that you have lost your mind, maybe they will have mercy and let you go. This is definitely not worth dying for! You are a Paladin lord, for the sake of the Holy Light! People depend on you! You must get out of this situation quickly!"
Her words were similar to Dathrohan's. Fordyn knew that both of them were doing this for their own good, but he could not do this.
Alton was a little frustrated: "My lord, think about your children and wife! "
My old friend, I must set an example for my son!"
Alton wanted to continue speaking, but at this time two guards came in: "Okay, Captain, we are going to take the prisoner to the courtroom now."
Alton gave Fording a look, but Fording did not look at him and followed the two guards directly. Fording did not know what kind of trial was waiting for him, nor did he know what kind of special guests were waiting for him.
