Chapter 50 Mission: Villain #1 Completed
laboratory.
Treatment room AZ02.
"Merck, will I only be able to walk with a limp from now on?"
Li Nai sat on the hospital bed, her right leg raised high, facing Merck at the foot of the bed.
"No, it won't." Merck didn't even look up, focusing on fiddling with various small tools that he claimed were for treatment on her injured right foot.
His head was bowed low, and his unkempt bangs almost touched her ankles. His tall, thin body, bent over for her, revealed the bulge in his back. This consultation posture had been maintained for an hour; if it were the old Li Nai, she would definitely feel uncomfortable for him.
But now Li Nai is a disabled person—
"Merck, will I only be able to walk with a limp from now on?"
"NO." Merck didn't even look up.
The two remained silent for a while.
"Merck, will I only be able to walk with a limp from now on?"
Merck looked up and turned to reach for something.
A measuring tool was used to measure her foot.
Li Nai's dull eyes flickered slightly: "What are you doing?"
"Measure the prosthetic foot data."
Prosthetic foot?
His dim eyes paused for a moment, then suddenly lit up.
She lifted the cushion and bent down to examine her right foot. After treatment, only the heel remained; the entire sole, including all five toes, was gone. Before being thrown away, she held them and wept, bidding them a final farewell.
"I'm not crippled anymore. I'm not crippled anymore."
She murmured to herself, her eyes fixed on Merck fiddling with her right foot, wishing she could immediately put on the prosthetic foot, run to Missy and hop around a couple of times to indicate that she was ready to begin the planned training.
There are four days left before Mishiko's plan begins. As long as her foot is intact, her transformation won't affect the plan. If she helps Mishiko complete her plan, she can fulfill her own mission.
The thought of completing both Qi Shuihan and Mi Xike's system tasks in a row made her laugh out loud.
Merck quietly raised his eyes, shook his head, and then lowered his head to continue collecting data.
Ten minutes later.
Merck left with his toolbox and data. Before leaving, he told Li Nai that he would fit her with a prosthetic foot tomorrow.
Li Nai waved goodbye cheerfully, her gaze following him until she could no longer see him through the glass window.
The waving of the arm gradually slowed down.
Once she regained her composure and sat up, a serious question came to mind.
How can she, with her broken leg, give Qi Shuihan freedom while she's in the lab?
the next day.
Several staff members came in and pushed her away along with her hospital bed.
The overhead light quickly slid backward, finally entering a brighter room.
The two of them worked together to lift her onto the operating table.
Pfft.
A nozzle extends from the top, spraying cool white mist evenly all over the body, with a smell that is slightly like disinfectant.
The nozzle suddenly turned and sprayed into her face, sending a tingling sensation straight to her brain.
Through blurred vision, a double image of Merck, now dressed in surgical gear, appeared above my head.
From afar came the ethereal voice of Merck, who seemed to be speaking to someone. "...Wait until I...finish this...before I go in..."
When she regained consciousness, she found herself surrounded by silence, and her eyelids were still heavy.
Feet, her feet.
She sat up abruptly, hugging her half-metal foot and examining it closely, occasionally fiddling with it to check its flexibility. Wow, so high-tech! If it weren't for the metal exterior, I'd think it was a real foot.
Congratulations, the surgery was a success!
His smug expression froze for a moment.
He turned his head to look at the source of the sound.
Qi Shuihan was wrapped in a tight white cloth and strapped straight to the movable frame.
She was still standing there, dumbfounded.
Qi Shuihan blinked her fox-like eyes: "Could you please make room for me? It'll be my turn to lie down later."
Li Nai looked at the operating table beneath her and obediently got off.
At first, she was a little cautious and didn't dare to walk too hard. After making sure that she was not uncomfortable, she strode closer to Qi Shuihan.
"That's great! I was worried about how to meet you. I didn't expect you to come to me like this."
After delivering what sounded like a villainous speech, she raised her hand, and with a flash of white light, a miniature scroll appeared, its surface covered with strands of silver thread that slithered slowly like snakes.
Qi Shuihan looked down, her long eyelashes covering her eyes.
How do I use it?
...
Li Nai returned to the ward, tossed and turned in bed, and didn't fall asleep until midnight.
Currently, the system control panel still shows four characters available for攻略 (strategy guide). On Qi Shuihan's character page, the progress bar is stuck at 95%. This indicates that the opponent is not using any special strategies.
Li Nai sat up, glanced at the door, and pondered how to sneak out and ask Qi Shuihan what was going on.
The moment my feet touched the ground, a message popped up.
[The character Qi Shuihan has been successfully won over.]
She scratched her ear, feeling guilty. So this was what they called "reform through persuasion"?
She withdrew her foot, lay back down on the bed with peace of mind, and soon fell fast asleep.
2 a.m.
The room lights automatically dimmed, the temperature was comfortable, and it was very quiet.
Several distorted figures flashed past the frosted glass window.
The next second, the room door was pushed open forcefully, and the loud noise instantly turned on the lights.
Li Nai opened her eyes wide, still looking terrified, and tightly hugged the blanket, questioning the person who had come.
"What are you trying to do?!"
Four burly, cold-faced men stood in front of the door, all dressed in matching black armor. Li Nai recognized them as Misiko's men, responsible for both internal and external security.
They ignored Li Nai and searched the room on their own.
She watched in astonishment as one of them squatted down in front of the bed and peered under it.
He subtly observed the actions of the other three.
Suddenly, she knew the answer.
Qi Shuihan escaped.
After failing to find what they were looking for, the four of them came and went just as suddenly.
The door closed.
Li Nai lay back down on the bed, her eyes closed, a sense of joy in her heart. The worries hidden deep within her heart had finally left her and her mission targets.
The room fell silent, and after a while the lights automatically dimmed.
A dark figure crept into the dimly lit room. It approached the bedside, its slender fingers picking up a strand of hair and scratching Li Nai's drowsy eyelids.
Her eyelids twitched, and she impatiently swept her face with her hands.
The shadowy figure chuckled softly.
The volume was just right to wake someone who was sleeping restlessly.
Li Nai realized someone was nearby and quickly rolled over to hide on the other side.
Upon opening his eyes, he immediately recognized the dark figure as Qi Shuihan.
"You haven't left yet?!"
The indoor lights were on brightly.
Qi Shuihan was still wearing the same long-sleeved and long-legged loungewear.
Why are you so excited?
Qi Shuihan lay down to her side as if they were old friends, her arm behind her head, her bright eyes looking at her. "I've come to say goodbye."
The moment Qi Shuihan stepped onto the bed, Li Nai slid off the bed with her back to the outside, her emerald pendant falling out of her collar. When she looked up again, she saw a section of Qi Shuihan's wrist peeking out from under his long sleeves, the skin swollen, bluish-purple.
Being used as a guinea pig for experiments every day, anyone would want freedom.
Look away and pretend you didn't see it.
"Oh, I see." Li Nai extended her hand, made a shaking gesture, and said, "Thank you for coming to say goodbye. Have a safe journey."
The person on the bed simply smiled slightly, their narrowed fox-like eyes lowered to stare at the dazzling emerald pendant.
With a slender finger, she flicked her wrist, her fingertip pointing at Li Nai's necklace. "Make it a farewell gift for me."
Li Nai frowned, looked down, and immediately covered the pendant.
"no!"
"Why? After tonight, we'll never see each other again. As your former business partner, I risked my life for you, so asking for a necklace from you isn't unreasonable."
Qi Shuihan shifted her position, propping her head up, when suddenly she cried out in pain, reaching behind her to rub her back. "It hurts so much."
The image of Qi Shuihan holding her and fighting the super zombie flashed through Li Nai's mind. A look of pity appeared on her face.
A sly glint flashed in his fox-like eyes.
"Let's get something else." Li Nai held the pendant and put it inside her collar.
Qi Shuihan looked around, her eyes filled with disappointment: "Do you have any other good stuff here? I'm so sad. I'm your savior and your good business partner, after all."
Li Nai glanced around shyly. "I'm giving this necklace away as a gift. If you really want it, I'll make it for you another time."
"Oh? You made the necklace yourself? I thought you got it from a jewelry store."
"Hey. What are you saying? If you're giving someone a gift, you should make it yourself to show your sincerity."
After hearing this, Qi Shuihan paused for a moment, his smile unchanged, and simply gave an ambiguous hum.
He glanced at her with his foxy eyes: "You're trying to play the emotional card with Missy." Then he glanced at her collar, "A necklace to win her heart. How childish."
"What do you know? I'm just exchanging sincerity for sincerity."
"Is it for Missie? Could it be that he's interested in her?"
Li Nai's expression froze, as if someone had touched on some secret thought of hers.
"What's interesting? I call it starting with emotions to gain the other person's trust."
Qi Shuihan looked at Li Nai, who was in a daze, and suppressed her smile, curling her lips into a smirk: "Silly girl. Don't try to play mind games with Missie, she... is just using your abilities."
Li Nai blinked, her eyes stinging. She turned to look at the wall, then casually raised her head and said, "So what if I'm using her? I'm using her to complete my own mission."
Qi Shuihan smiled faintly, but his gaze made Li Nai uneasy.
Li Nai: Aren't you leaving yet? Be careful those people don't come back.
The fox-like eyes persistently glanced at her chest—the emerald necklace.
She reflexively covered her mouth again, her eyes glancing at the backpack on the table.
I have something for you.
He quickly walked towards the writing desk.
Qi Shuihan raised an eyebrow, her eyes filled with curiosity as she followed her movements.
Li Nai took out a book, and the cover looked familiar—wasn't this her novel?
He glanced down at the novel handed to him; it was torn and the pages were loose.
"No need to give it to me. I've already finished reading it."
"Really? Are you sure? There's something I wrote inside, a private message for you," Li Nai said mysteriously, her clear eyes looking very sincere.
Qi Shuihan looked at Li Nai silently, hesitated for a second, then took the novel and asked, "What does it say?" He casually turned the pages.
"Don't look yet." A hand pressed down.
Qi Shuihan stared at Li Nai's hand.
"Wait until you're safely out of here before you check. Trust me, my good friend."
Li Nai winked at her playfully.
After a few seconds of silence, Qi Shuihan suddenly laughed. "So ugly. You'd better practice your 'pretentiousness' some more."
Li Nai looked constipated.
...
On the third day of adjusting to her prosthetic foot, Missy invited her to walk in the garden on the glass platform.
Li Nai gripped the railing at the edge of the glass platform tightly with both hands, pulling her mind away from the trees and stream below.
Are you nervous?
Beside her, Misiko gazed at the vast mountain plains and seemed to notice her unusual behavior.
"I'm afraid of heights."
"Let's go sit in the garden."
"Okay, okay."
Missy took the first step away. She turned around, her legs went weak, and she fell to the ground, a cardboard box falling out of her shallow pocket.
She was momentarily embarrassed, then grabbed it back haphazardly.
Finally, under Misik's watchful gaze, he slowly offered it with both hands.
“Misik. This is the birthday present I was going to give you.”
After the gift was accepted, Li Nai made up an excuse and ran away.
This isn't the atmosphere she envisioned at all!! And she's even trying to appeal to emotions. So clumsy! So awkward!
Missy held the simple, self-folded cardboard box and watched Li Nai's panicked escape disappear from sight.
She lowered her head, opened the cardboard box, and in the bright sunlight, the emerald shimmered, as if it were glowing. Glancing at the box out of the corner of her eye, she pulled out the note underneath.
Happy birthday! The pendant contains a liquid that can detoxify and heal wounds; it may save you if needed.
She lifted the necklace high, the pendant swaying, its pure, emerald-green light illuminating her slightly bewildered eyes.
The cell phone rang.
The confusion in his eyes vanished, replaced by a cold, hard expression.
"Didn't find it?" she said to her phone.
"Make contact with all parties involved. This is a cunning fox; don't let her ruin my plans. Once discovered, leave no survivors."
...
In a cleaning room at the base, Qi Shuihan held the novel up to the light shining through a crack. Her index and middle fingers were raised, holding a bunch of flattened, dried black roses between their tips, while the rest of her fingers quickly and lightly turned the pages. After reading more than half of the novel, she finally found the private message Li Nai had given her.
Those fox-like eyes, always holding an enigmatic smile, grow colder the more you look at the content.
—There are no more restrictions between us. Do not approach us again, or I will use my special system ability to kill you instantly.
"Hmph, are you warning me?"
His lips traced a bloodthirsty arc.
"What should I do? I really want to kill Mishiko right now."
