Chapter 64: Chen Ye meets his relatives

Only then did the captain see a strange man standing with Yun Yan.

"So you're Yun Zhiqing's cousin. You look really energetic. Since you're Yun Zhiqing's cousin and have helped us so much, it's no problem for you to stay in the village for a few days."

"Thank you, Captain. I will take my cousin back to settle down first, and then I will come to the team office to find you." Yun Yan said.

"It's okay. It's time to settle your cousin down. There's no rush for our business. We can talk about it tomorrow."

After hearing what the team leader said, the other village cadres could only smile and tell Yunyan to go and settle her relatives first.

After saying goodbye to them, Yun Yan took Chen Ye back home. After arriving home, Yun Yan asked Chen Ye to pack his things first while she went to the brigade office to give the money for the sweet potato vermicelli she had earned in Shashi to the accountant.

This time, the captain and several others came together, saying that they were here to pick up Yang Qian and me, but in fact they were not here for the 1,200 yuan.

"Behind my yard is the cowshed where Grandpa Shen and his men live, but you must not go looking for them by yourself." Yun Yan repeatedly reminded Shen Ye before leaving.

She was really afraid that Chen Ye would not be able to help but go to see his grandparents. If someone found out, there would be a big mess.

"I understand, don't worry. I won't cause any trouble for myself or my grandparents, let alone you."

Shen Ye knew Yun Yan's worries. He was not a person without measure. Although he wanted to see his grandparents, he had to hold back.

After hearing Chen Ye's answer, Yun Yan felt relieved and went out to the brigade office.

"Yun Zhiqing, why are you here at this time? Has your cousin been settled?" The captain was a little curious when he saw Yun Yan coming to the office so quickly.

"Everything was settled, and he didn't bring much stuff, so it didn't take long."

"Captain, this is the payment for the goods in Shashi, a total of 1,200 yuan, please count it." Then he handed him the envelope containing the money.

The captain was overjoyed to see so much money and immediately handed the money to the accountant: "Xizi, you are the accountant, you count it."

The accountant took the money and began to count it. Yun Yan took this opportunity to explain the commission to them.

"Captain, this time, Yang Zhiqing and I secured the order from Shashi. I've already promised her that we'll split the commission on Shashi's sweet potato vermicelli in half."

"This is what we deserve. You and Yang Zhiqing have worked hard this time," said the team leader.

None of the other village officials objected. After all, selling sweet potato vermicelli in such cold weather wasn't easy. They were willing to accept the commission, and compared to the commission, their dividends were the biggest gain.

About ten minutes later, the accountant came out with the money and the account book.

"Captain, the figures are correct. I just calculated, and including the batch we sold to Shashi this time, we've sold a total of 2,850 kilograms of sweet potato vermicelli in the past two months."

"If you calculate it this way, we have basically recovered all our capital." The accountant said excitedly while holding the account book.

The captain and his men were all overjoyed when they heard the accountant's words. They had never expected that in just two months, they would have recovered all their initial investment.

"Now that all the accounts have been settled, let's call all the villagers who raised funds to the brigade office tomorrow. Give them some money so that they can all have a happy New Year." said the brigade leader.

After handing the money to the team leader, Yun Yan went home. She had to think carefully about how to arrange for Shen Ye to go to the cowshed to see his grandparents without anyone else in the Red Flag Brigade knowing.

After returning home, Yun Yan took out the quilt of the original owner's parents from the space and spread it on the armchair. She let Chen Ye make do with the armchair in the living room for the next few days.

For dinner, she simply made some stir-fried bacon with garlic sprouts and stewed vermicelli with sauerkraut. After dinner, Yun Yan told Shen Ye about the solution she had come up with.

"Chen Ye, wait until half past ten at night when everyone is asleep, and then we'll go out the back door. You can secretly go to the cowshed to see your grandparents, and I'll help you keep an eye on them outside."

"Okay, thank you then." Chen Ye thanked her sincerely.

After all, it was already a great honor for her to risk her life to bring herself back to the Red Flag Brigade, and she even had to cover for herself in such a cold weather.

At half past ten, the two wrapped themselves tightly and went out through the back door. When they arrived at the cowshed, it was already pitch black inside, and Shen Ye whispered to call for help from outside.

Shen Lei in the cowshed vaguely heard someone calling him. He tried hard to open his eyes and listen carefully. It seemed to be the voice of his grandson.

He quickly got up from the bed, put on some clothes and walked to the door: "Xiaoye, is that you?" Grandpa Shen asked in disbelief.

"Grandpa, it's me. I'm Xiaoye, and I'm here to see you and grandma." When Shen Ye heard his grandfather's voice, he choked up for a moment.

Grandpa Shen quickly opened the door and let him in. Shen Ye lit a candle when he entered the doorway and saw the shabby cowshed. The temperature inside was not much better than outside.

Shen Ye never thought that his grandfather, who had spent his entire life in the military and had made countless military achievements, would end up in such a state.

Liang Wanying saw her grandson burst into tears and held Chen Ye's hand tightly, refusing to let go.

"Xiaoye, how did you find this place?" Liang Wanying asked curiously.

None of his relatives and friends knew that he and his old man had been sent down to the Red Flag Brigade.

"Grandma, I've been asking people for information about you and Grandpa for the past two years. I recently heard that you were sent down to the Red Flag Brigade in Southern Province. I've searched most of Southern Province but can't find any news about you."

"On the way to Shashi, I accidentally heard that there was a female educated youth named Yun Yan who was from the Red Flag Brigade. I helped her in Shashi, so she agreed to bring me to the Red Flag Brigade. Now I am her cousin." Shen Ye explained.

"So it was Yun Zhiqing who brought you here, Xiaoye. Yun Zhiqing is a good person."

"Yes, Xiaoye, your grandma and I have received a lot of help from her. If it weren't for her, we might have been gone long ago." Grandpa Shen said with emotion.

Ever since she rescued Yunyan from the trap last time, she would put some food there every once in a while. Although the amount was not much each time, it was enough for them to eat half full.

Once, my husband had a high fever and she gave him some antipyretic pills. Otherwise, he might have passed away long ago.

Some time ago, she gave them three old cotton-padded jackets, otherwise they would have suffered the same fate as those who froze to death last winter.

Chen Ye felt mixed emotions as he listened to his grandparents talk about Yun Yan's help to them.

Yun Yan was outside helping Chen Ye keep watch, shivering from the cold. It was truly freezing cold, and half an hour had already passed, and there was no telling if the three of them had finished their conversation.

"Chen Ye, it's almost time, you should come out. Don't let anyone find you later, it will not be good for anyone." After waiting for more than ten minutes, Yun Yan had no choice but to urge him.
