Chapter 7 Pots and Pans

After leaving the department store and riding back to the familiar street, He Ruixue's enthusiasm for work calmed down a little. She took out her schoolbag and stuffed a lot of things into it, making it bulge.

The lady in the yard reached out to look through her backpack, but the original owner had no idea what etiquette was. She followed suit, turned around, and pushed the cart through the crowd, leaving a few dusty ruts on their legs. She received a few cold stares and finally returned to her eldest brother's house.

The eldest brother's family was sitting together at the table at this time. In the center of the round table was a bowl of egg drop soup, which was mostly shredded radish with only a little egg drop. It was estimated that there was only one egg in the whole pot of soup, which was a rare meat dish.

Next to the egg drop soup was a bowl of sauerkraut, pickled with coarse salt and slightly cooked, making it sour and salty.

Wang Taozhi came out carrying cornmeal steamed buns, and when he saw her, his face fell.

But she seemed to have forgotten the argument in the morning and asked her to sit down. "It's time for dinner and you haven't come back yet. You've made the whole family wait for you."

She parked the car, locked it, and said impatiently, "Who made you wait? Eat if you're hungry. Just leave some for me."

"Oh, little sister doesn't eat leftovers, so I have to help you serve some more. Forget it, I don't have time for that... Hurry up and sit down to eat. Where have you been playing today?"

Without waiting for her to answer, Wang Taozhi placed a white steamed bun in her bowl and said, "Here, this one has the most fine flour in it, don't choke on your precious throat."

He Ruixue was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. In terms of treatment, she was definitely the best in her eldest brother's family, even the pregnant Lu Lan was not as good as her.

Imitating the original owner's usual reaction, she threw her schoolbag on the table and glanced at the dishes with disdain, "Why is there not even any meat? I'm not a sheep that eats grass every day. I can add some meat and scrambled eggs."

Wang Taozhi was so angry at her self-righteous attitude that she pouted. Just as she was about to explode, she saw the opening of the schoolbag opened, revealing the eggs and bacon inside.

She was startled and quickly closed the door, turned around and stared at her and asked, "Where did it come from?"

"I picked it up for free." He Ruixue raised her eyebrows.

"Look at you, you're so cocky. Where did you find this good thing? Come on, tell me where it is. Your brother and I will go there and squat every day when we're not working."

Wang Taozhi worked tirelessly, rummaging through the bag and discovering two packages of noodles hidden deep inside. Even though she tried to suppress her voice, she let out a bit of excitement, "Have you found a way?"

She didn't suspect that He Ruixue had done anything bad. After all, she knew her sister's character best.

She only dares to show her temper to her family members and pretends to be very well behaved in public. When she sees a police officer, she is like a mouse seeing a cat. She doesn't even have the courage to do anything illegal.

He Ruixue didn't keep anyone in suspense. She briefly recounted her experience today, embellishing the process a bit and saying that these were rewards from the station staff because she helped catch the thief and recover the passengers' losses.

Wang Taozhi weighed the meat in her hand and said, "What a waste! Such good pork belly would have dripped so much oil into the bacon... Dongbao, you're really too bold! He's just a second-rate guy who's been in the police station for a long time. Aren't you afraid that he'll come back and cause trouble for you?"

He Ruixue showed a slight sense of smugness, "That's why I didn't show up. He couldn't find me even if he wanted to."

He Xiaotuan didn't pay any attention to what they were talking about. He was staring at the meat on the table, his mouth watering. He said, "Mom, I remember there are still a few winter bamboo shoots at home. They're perfect for stir-frying meat. I can also make Xiaolan an egg custard. Scrambled eggs use a lot of oil. Auntie, please switch."

He Ruixue spread her hands and took the teacup handed to her by Lu Lan like a gentleman. She drank half a sip of warm water and said that it didn't matter. "Whatever, I want to eat meat anyway."

Twelve-year-old He Xiaoyou nodded rapidly. Seeing that his mother didn't say anything, he hurriedly said, "Mom, I'll go help you peel the bamboo shoots."

He quickly got off the chair, took out the winter bamboo shoots hidden in the cupboard, and peeled them quickly, leaving her no time to object.

Eight-year-old He Xiaoai clapped her hands and joined in the fun, "Mom, eat meat, eat meat!"

"Eat meat, do I look like a piece of meat?"

Wang Taozhi wanted to curse, but the food was brought by her younger sister, and she had to eat it herself. If she was not satisfied, she would make a fuss.

She had no choice but to turn around and take the meat to the stove, and cut off a small piece with heartache.

They complained, "We are all ancestors, and we still want to eat good food. It's only been a short time since the famine, and you don't learn your lesson! The harvest this year is not very good, so where can we get the meat dishes for you?"

"Old He, come and start cooking for me. He Xiaotuan, you're just sitting there, who are you acting like a Buddha for? Can your brother cook the bamboo shoots by himself? Go and help!"

In just a few words, she had the whole family running around in circles, and the clatter of pots and pans created a symphony similar to that of countless other families.

Seeing that they were all busy, He Ruixue walked over and sat with He Xiaoai, "Xiaoai."

It sounds like Xiao Ai, which is quite cute.

The little girl stared at her with her big, distinct black and white eyes and called out softly, "Auntie."

He Ruixue touched her slightly yellow hair and said, "Look, my aunt is treating you to meat. Do you want to return the favor?"

He Xiaoai pouted her lips, looking a little distressed, and scratched the tablecloth with her fingers, "Auntie, I only have a rag doll, I can't give it to you."

"Didn't your dad give you some candies a few days ago? Did you eat them all?"

"But……"

The little girl was a little reluctant. She hadn't eaten candy for a long time and usually only ate one candy every three days. But no matter how she saved, there would soon be not much candy left from the candy her father bought.

Thinking of the two pills hidden under her pillow, she sniffed reluctantly, finally nodded with difficulty, and urged her eagerly, "Okay, little aunt, you must eat slowly, I'll get it for you."
