Chapter 6 Throwing a Tantrum
Wu Yuetang raised his eyebrows in disapproval, put on his backpack and walked down the mountain. After they reached the foot of the mountain, they walked directly towards the town.
Dayao Village is not far from Qingshi Town, only about two or three kilometers away. If you walk fast, you can get there in half an hour.
When they reached the village gate, they saw several women sitting under a big banyan tree to enjoy the cool air. A sharp-eyed woman saw Wu Zhiyun and Wu Yuetang and immediately came over.
"Hey, isn't this the third son of the Wu family? Where are you going?"
When Wu Zhiyun saw that it was Aunt Sun next door, he responded to her somewhat uncomfortably.
"My little sister and I are going to town."
Aunt Sun glanced at Wu Yuetang behind Wu Zhiyun, her eyes became unfriendly and full of sarcasm, and her words became harsh.
"Oh, look, isn't this that little loser from the Wu family? He spends every day at home eating and waiting to die, but why did he think of coming out to work today? It's like maggots growing in a salt jar, what a miracle."
The shrill voice of Mrs. Sun attracted several other women under the banyan tree, and they all came over when they saw what was happening.
Wu Yuetang stood at the back and looked coldly at the people who came with ill intentions. She tried hard to search for information about these people in her mind.
The leader was Aunt Sun, the head of the gossip group in Dayao Village. She liked to gossip about other people when she had nothing to do. The few old women who followed behind her all had a good relationship with Aunt Sun.
There is Liu, the daughter-in-law of the carpenter at the foot of the mountain, and Li, the daughter-in-law of the Zhang family next door to his family. The last woman is ultimately related to the Wu family. She is Chen Chunhe, the second aunt of the second sister-in-law Chen.
Seeing the four people getting closer and closer to her as if they were ready to laugh at her, Wu Yuetang smiled instead of getting angry.
"Aunt Sun, what you said is not right. I came to the town for something important to do and I can't delay."
Hearing Wu Yuetang's words, the maids laughed even harder. Chen Chunhe said with contempt when she saw this.
"You're the only one who has something to do? You sleep all day at home and all night. You're like a pig all day long, sleeping and eating. What kind of work can you possibly do? Others don't understand, but don't I?"
Everyone knew that Chen Chunhe was from the Wu family's second daughter-in-law's family, so they naturally believed what she said. At this time, they looked at Wu Yuetang with even more contempt.
"Aunts, my little sister is no longer the same as before. She went up the mountain to look for food yesterday and today. You can't say that to her!"
Wu Zhiyun was also angry. He saw with his own eyes that his younger sister found food for his family. How could he let outsiders say that about his younger sister? He blocked Wu Yuetang with his small body and angrily accused the aunts in front of him.
"Hey, this loser can still find food?"
Aunt Sun instantly became unhappy and angry. She howled loudly, and other villagers passing by also began to look over here.
Wu Yuetang rolled her eyes upon seeing this, and suddenly she sat down on the ground like a tantrum, starting to cry at the top of her lungs.
"Aunt Sun, how could you say that to me? I know it's a famine and there's nothing to eat at home, so I came out to find something to eat. I've clearly changed my ways, so why does Aunt Sun keep scolding me? Wow~~~"
There was a cry in Wu Yuetang's voice. She rubbed her eyelids with her hands, and her eyes turned red. The sound of her cry was not much smaller than Aunt Sun's.
The villagers passing by also came over.
"What's going on?"
"Isn't this the youngest of the Wu family? Why is he sitting on the ground crying?"
"Mrs. Sun, are you gossiping about others again?"
When Aunt Sun heard this, she immediately retorted.
"I'm not gossiping. What I said is clearly the truth."
After saying that, he rolled his eyes in dissatisfaction.
Hearing this, Wu Yuetang cried even louder.
"I was clearly going to look for food for my family and dig up some medicinal herbs to sell in town, but before I even left the village, I was stopped by Aunt Sun and Aunt Chen. I clearly didn't do anything wrong, so why are you scolding me? Wuuwuwuwu."
I have to say, this scene of throwing a tantrum was really fun to act, but my voice was a little tired from shouting.
When Wu Zhiyun saw his younger sister acting so unreasonable in front of outsiders for the first time, he didn't know what to do for a moment. He was about to go over to help her when he saw his younger sister winking at him. Then he realized that she was acting.
Wu Zhiyun, who received the gaze, also sat down on the ground and started crying at the top of his lungs.
"That's right, my little sister and I found something to sell in town, but the aunts wouldn't let us go. They stopped us here and gossiped about us. Woo woo woo woo."
Wu Yuetang was stunned for a moment. She never expected that her third brother was also a good actor. He even squeezed out tears. She secretly expressed her admiration in her heart.
Seeing that the third child of the Wu family was also crying out of grievance, an old man came out from the crowd of onlookers, quickly helped the siblings up, and pointed at the several old women who were making trouble in front of them with a serious face.
"It's fine if you're just spreading rumors and gossiping all the time, but you're also bullying these two ten-year-old kids. You really don't act like elders at all. They already know they have to help with household chores to contribute to the family income, yet you're still dwelling on their past. How shameless!"
As soon as the old man finished speaking, the onlookers nodded in agreement and started to scold Aunt Sun and Chen Chunhe.
"Yeah, look at those two half-grown kids going up the mountain and digging up two baskets of mountain products. You must be envious."
"These women don't work every day, they just slack off everywhere. You guys just gather around and gossip about them every day. If they start talking nonsense and get reported to the authorities, they'll behave themselves."
Everyone was talking at once, Wu Yuetang still covered her face with her hands pretending to cry, secretly looking at Aunt Sun through her fingers, seeing how she and Chen Chunhe were so angry that their faces were red, she felt very happy in her heart.
"What's wrong? Am I not telling the truth? Don't you all know what she was like before? You just believed this idiot when he said he would change. It's hilarious."
Aunt Sun stiffened her neck and retorted with a look of dissatisfaction, but just as she finished her words, a man rushed out of the crowd and pulled her ear away.
The man was Aunt Sun's husband. He had just returned from selling firewood in the town and saw his wife causing trouble outside again. Without asking the reason, he rushed over, grabbed Aunt Sun's ear, and cursed her viciously.
"I was just going to town to sell some firewood, and you're out here causing trouble again. Just think about how much trouble your mouth has brought to our family. If you don't learn your lesson, I'll smash your mouth when I get home."
Seeing Aunt Sun being taken away by her husband, Chen Chunhe shrank her neck awkwardly, slowly stepped back, and ran away after leaving the crowd, fearing that the villagers would catch her and scold her.
