Chapter 54 Not Supporting Ancestors

"Auntie, what are you doing?"

"Ah~" Yang Juan was startled by Yuan Qiu's sudden appearance.

Why are you going through my godmother's trunk?

"You bastard, why are you shouting so loudly? You scared me to death." Yang Juan was a little guilty. "There was a mouse here just now, and I was opening the box to catch it."

Yuan Qiu stared at her blankly without saying a word, then sat in the main room and didn't go out.

Yang Juan resented Yuan Qiu for ruining her plans, and now that Yuan Qiu wasn't leaving, she was furious. Pointing at Yuan Qiu, she cursed, "You bastard! You're eating and drinking here for free, why don't you get out and do some work! We're nice to you, and you think this is your home? Get out and do some work!"

No matter how smart and strong Yuan Qiu was, she was still just a child of a few years old. When Yang Juan was so fierce to her, her eyes immediately reddened. She held back her tears, but her heart was filled with hatred.

"You dare glare at me!" Yang Juan reached out to teach Yuan Qiu a lesson, but Yuan Qiu quickly dodged.

He quickly changed his mind and immediately called Sanya back from digging for earthworms. He whispered a few words to her, and Sanya became extremely nervous. She handed her tools to Yuan Qiu and then immediately ran home.

Yang Juan breathed a sigh of relief as she watched Yuan Qiu run out, thinking she would continue "catching mice," but then San Ya came back!

Yang Juan was so angry!

Just when they got rid of one bastard, another money-loser came back and ruined their plans!

"Why isn't Sanya digging for earthworms? Aren't you afraid your ducklings will go hungry? Go out and get to work."

"I'm not going, I'm tired, I need to rest." After saying that, Sanya climbed onto Yang Cui's bed and lay down in a spread-eagle position.

"What are you lying around for in broad daylight? Go do some work. How can a young lady be so lazy? Will she ever be able to get married?"

After saying that, Yang Juan reached out to pull Sanya, but Sanya struggled and said, "I'm not going. My mother said that if you're tired, you should rest for a while. You're not my mother."

"I am your aunt, your elder!"

"That's none of your business."

"You brat!"

Yang Juan was so angry she wanted to grind her teeth.

Right now, she couldn't be rough with Sanya, so she had to put up with it for the time being.

Yang Cui hadn't returned by noon, but she had said she would be back for lunch. Around one o'clock, Er Ya started cooking.

Without thinking twice, Yang Juan took ten eggs out of the cupboard, cracked them into a bowl, beat them, added water and salt, and did it all in one smooth motion.

"Auntie, you've beaten too many eggs..."

Er Ya felt a little heartbroken; it cost ten eggs.

Yang Juan glanced at Er Ya and said irritably, "It's just ten eggs! Look how stingy you are, just like Yang Cui!"

After Yang Juan finished speaking, she put the large bowl of egg mixture into the pot to steam, and instructed Er Ya: "Don't just stand there, quickly start the fire and steam the egg custard."

The eggs had already been beaten, and they couldn't be left unsteamed, so Er Ya thought we'd all share them later.

The steamed egg custard cooked quickly. Er Ya wrapped the bowl in a rag and took the custard out of the pot. Yang Juan wrapped the bowl in a rag and took the whole bowl of custard away, and also took a spoon from the cupboard.

"Egg, come and eat some steamed egg custard."

Upon hearing the name "steamed egg custard," Golden Egg immediately trotted over.

Immediately afterwards, Yang Juan took the large bowl of steamed egg custard and began to eat it with big mouthfuls of golden eggs.

Er Ya was stunned. San Ya immediately took her rice bowl and went over: "Auntie, my mother said that you can't eat a dish by yourself. You should put your portion in your rice bowl."

"Let's just eat, why bother serving it? It's too much trouble!"

"Eat slowly, take small bites. We haven't eaten yet, my mother hasn't eaten yet," Sanya said, unable to help but say as she watched Yang Juan and her son eat so quickly and in such large bites.

Yang Juan glanced at Sanya: "What does it have to do with me that you haven't eaten? If you haven't eaten, can't you just make more? There are still eggs in the cupboard!"

Sanya was possessive of her food, and she immediately got angry: "Those are ten eggs! You two are going to eat ten eggs?"

"What's wrong with Sanya?"

Yang Cui is back.

"Mom!" Sanya ran over. "My aunt and her son want to eat ten of our eggs, and they won't give us any."

Yang Cui then noticed that Yang Juan was holding a large soup bowl filled with steamed egg custard.

"Why are you here?" Yang Cui asked indifferently.

"Sister, I'm planning to bring my child to stay with you for a couple of days. Let's have a good talk."

Yang Cui was taken aback: "Stay here with me?"

"Yes, we haven't been in touch for a long time. Our parents and siblings are gone too. We should support each other through life, didn't you say that?"

Yang Cui looked at Yang Juan in disbelief. She was speaking so sweetly today, completely different from the person she was the day before yesterday.

"Ten eggs per meal? I can't afford to feed you and your child like that," Yang Cui said bluntly. "After you finish eating, go home early. We haven't been in touch for so many years, so let's keep in touch as before."

"Sis, don't be so stingy. It's the first time Dandan has come here, and I just gave him a few extra eggs. If you can't bear to part with them, we just won't give them to him anymore."

Yang Cui was too lazy to waste her breath arguing with her.

They've already eaten the eggs, so we can't make them pay for them. It's also unreasonable for them to have eaten the eggs while their own children don't.

Yang Cui made two wild scallion and egg pancakes for the three children. They ate fourteen eggs in one meal, which made Er Ya and San Ya very distressed.

After the meal, those few families from the village brought their earthworms to be weighed.

Because Yang Cui didn't have enough copper coins, and they didn't have change, Yang Cui agreed with them that each family would contribute one tael of silver before settling the bill.

So now Yang Cui has to record the number of earthworms delivered by each household every day.

Yang Juan admired Yang Cui for her organized and reasonable manner of speaking and acting, and for the village chief's polite manner towards her.

Afterwards, it was already late afternoon, but Yang Juan showed no sign of leaving.

"Aren't you going back?" Yang Cui asked again.

"You really don't like me that much?" Yang Juan said. "I'll stay here for two days."

"I'll stay for two days, just chop two loads of firewood for me every morning and evening."

"You still want me to do work?" Yang Juan exclaimed in surprise.

"What? Are you a pampered young lady who can't do any work? Then what are you doing in my poor, remote place?"

In the end, I don't have any real relationship with her, so why should I let her eat and drink for free? My money and food don't grow on trees, and besides, she's not exactly honest.

"I've never chopped firewood at the Jin family's house."

“I don’t keep freeloaders here, Mrs. Jin. Why don’t you go back to your own home?”

Going back? That's impossible. What kind of food does the Jin family eat? What kind of food is this? Besides, I haven't even "borrowed" any money yet.

Yang Juan thought Yang Cui was only sending her back because she couldn't bear to part with the food. But she wouldn't listen! She refused to believe that Yang Cui would really make her chop firewood. What could Yang Cui do if she didn't? Would she really not give her any food?
