Forget about grabbing money; they were exchanging the large sums of money into smaller bills, bundling each one into a ball, and seeing how the workers racked their brains to squeeze as much money as possible into their pockets...
Regardless of whether they won an award or not, every employee received a New Year's gift and a generous red envelope!
Everyone's morale is higher, and they have a strong sense of belonging to their unit.
As soon as the cold snap of early spring passed, Ke Meiyu quietly called the village chief of Luofeng Village.
The village chief nodded excitedly, his voice trembling, "Okay, okay, uh, don't worry, I know..."
He hung up the phone, and amidst the bewildered and curious gazes of the crowd, he turned on the device and began broadcasting: "Hello, hello, hello, villagers of Luofeng Village, please pay attention..."
To emphasize his seriousness, he repeated each sentence three times, enough to attract the attention of the entire village.
Now that the weather is warmer and the busy farming season has just ended, what important event could there be in the village that would warrant the village chief announcing it over the loudspeaker?
"I just received a call from Yu Bao'er in Kyoto..."
Upon hearing this, everyone not only pricked up their ears, but also couldn't help but move towards the village branch.
These are lucky dolls who came from their village; they didn't forget them even after they left.
They obtained high-yield seeds from Kyoto and sent them back. In just one or two years, every household was able to eat rice and wheat flour to their heart's content!
If the organization hadn't forbidden it, they would have wanted to erect a plaque for Yu Bao'er and offer incense to her every day.
Yu Bao'er called, and the village chief had to announce it over the loudspeaker—it must be good news. Even though no one knew what it was, everyone had a smile on their face.
"All registered residents in the village who are 60 years of age or older, as long as they are mobile, can pack their things and wait at home. A bus will be coming tomorrow to take everyone to Kyoto for sightseeing..."
What?
Everyone was stunned. As the village chief repeated the message over and over on the radio, they felt like they were hallucinating.
Before they could stop their murmurs and check with those around them to make sure they hadn't misheard, the village chief, who seemed to know the villagers' thoughts perfectly well, continued over the loudspeaker:
“That’s right, Yu Bao’er called and said she wanted us old folks to go to Kyoto to see the lives of the nobles of the past, to see the prosperity of our Xia Hua Kyoto, and to pay our respects to the great Chairman…”
"Yu Bao'er said that only elderly people who are mobile, self-sufficient, and in good health are eligible. There will be a doctor on the bus who will do a preliminary check-up for everyone. If you don't meet the criteria, don't be discouraged; there will be plenty of opportunities in the future..."
The villagers nodded repeatedly, agreeing that they wouldn't hold a grudge against anyone for not being able to go due to health reasons.
Everyone still felt uneasy, as if they were dreaming, and their steps were unsteady.
However, as expected, the next day two very impressive double-decker buses were parked beside the provincial highway. Two accompanying doctors examined all the elderly people, checked everyone's identity information, and confirmed the final number of people going to Kyoto.
Because they are all elderly, even if they are healthy and agile now, their physical strength is not as good as that of young people.
Accompanying them were three middle-aged men and three middle-aged women, as well as four high school students with good grades, who not only helped take care of the elderly but also broadened their horizons.
Everyone was envious and determined to perform well so they could be selected to accompany them next time.
The children also secretly resolved to study hard.
Of course, Ke Meiyu also brought a lot of gifts for the villagers, mostly Kyoto specialties. She also sent a large box of things to the village chief, which contained many cases of how the whole village became rich, as well as various professional books.
The villagers were extremely grateful to her.
The elderly people were traveling far from home for the first time, wearing their best, cleanest, and unpatched clothes. They were excited, nervous, and thrilled. Once on the bus, they were full of curiosity, touching and exploring everything.
Each vehicle has a driver, a doctor, three tour guides, and a photographer. The tour guides take turns introducing the scenery along the way and telling interesting stories, making the long journey feel very short.
It seems like after a few naps and some delicious food, I've already leisurely made my way to Kyoto!
Grandpa Ke and Grandma Ke had been waiting for a long time. When they saw their old friends, they were so excited that their eyes were filled with tears. They hugged each other and greeted each other.
With their granddaughter as a source of pride, the two elderly people walked with their heads held high, full of self-confidence, and led their companions on a tour of the entire city of Kyoto. They ate a lot of delicious food, and when they left, everyone had large bags and small packages.
It was like wandering in a dream, every minute and every second filled with disbelief. When they returned to the village, this month-long experience became the most vivid and colorful chapter in their lives!
That's enough for them to brag about to others and younger generations.
Because of the return of these elderly people, the entire village has a different spirit. They are now the village in the entire province and city that is closest to Kyoto. Every household has badges, photos, and porcelain brought from Kyoto, and everyone has tasted authentic donkey rolls, candied hawthorns, roast duck, and so on.
With the books and tutoring materials mailed by Ke Meiyu every semester, and the motivation to go to Kyoto, the children in the village suddenly buried themselves in their studies, chasing each other, and their grades soared. They went from studying in the village to the county town, then to the provincial capital for high school, and finally all of them were admitted to universities in Kyoto!
Years later, Ke Meiyu's apprentices had graduated and were scattered throughout the country, continuing to recruit apprentices to carry forward their skills.
Back then, Lu Yuehai, who was just a little dumpling, had no time to come to Kyoto to visit Ke Meiyu because his father was transferred to the south and he had to be sent to the military camp for training during winter and summer vacations. He could only correspond with her through letters.
Now, the little dumpling has grown into a handsome young man. He was admitted to the Kyoto Military Academy with excellent grades. Dressed in a crisp green uniform, he carried his luggage and knocked on the Ke family's door with great spirit.
