The next day, when Grandpa Zhao went to the old house to find Zhao Yi, Zhao Yi was busy hoisting up the timbers that would be used as roof beams.
He didn't understand the intricacies of the situation, but seeing that Old Master Zhao had explained the matter so simply in a few words, he nodded and said, "Okay, I'll tell Jiang Bai later that we don't need to send anything to the dairy farm."
He had no idea that the dairy farm was funded by Jiang Bai.
When he got home and told Jiang Bai, Jiang Bai was also stunned.
She asked, "If they don't want milk from here, which company did they choose?"
Zhao Yi said, "I didn't ask."
Jiang Bai slapped him: "That's your family's milk tea shop, why didn't you ask more clearly?"
“That’s not my family’s business,” Zhao Yi immediately stated, “Anle Milk Tea Shop is my family’s business.”
Jiang Bai rolled her eyes, too lazy to pay attention to his glib tongue.
Zhao Yi sighed and comforted her, "They insisted on opening the milk tea shop themselves, and now they definitely want to break free from your control. Don't worry about them too much. With me here, what's the harm in suffering losses? You should focus more on me and the child."
Jiang Bai agreed.
She sent someone to Li Xinxiang to inform her that she no longer needed to deliver milk to the Zhao family's milk tea shop, and that was the end of it.
The Zhao family's old house is beginning to take shape.
Jiang Bai has recently taken to going back with Zhao Yi to visit her old home. In her previous life, she lived in a first-tier city in China where land was incredibly expensive, and she couldn't imagine having such a large yard of her own. The house they bought in the county town was already quite big, but the one in the village was much larger.
Most importantly, Zhao Yi has a really good sense of aesthetics; the house is decorated in an antique style, with a unique charm.
Just then, she saw Jiang Cheng walking with those outsiders again. When Jiang Cheng saw her, he felt a little guilty and waved her away.
Those outsiders didn't see Jiang Bai and left the village on their own.
Jiang Bai then remembered that there was a major hidden danger here, so she quickly took a carriage to the Tian family.
Tian Rou had arrived home. When Jiang Bai saw her, she was holding her child affectionately. The child's little hands were tightly gripping her clothes at the chest, and the child's mouth was close to her chest, presumably wanting to nurse.
Tian Rou had already taken medication to stop lactation, so she couldn't give him any breast milk and kept backing away.
The mother and baby were locked in a tug-of-war, one grabbing and the other dodging, while the nanny tried to coax the baby to let go, creating a lively atmosphere.
Jiang Bai went inside and saw that the child's face was red from holding it in, so he quickly helped Tian Rou coax the child.
Finally, the baby let go of her hand. Tian Rou asked the nanny to take the baby out, then bent down to straighten the wrinkles in her clothes before smiling at Jiang Bai and saying, "What brings you here, sister?"
Jiang Bai was pulled to sit down by her, and a cup of tea was handed to him. He took a sip to calm himself down before asking, "Do you know what Jiang Cheng has been up to lately?"
“Jiang Cheng?” Tian Rou was taken aback. “He told me he found a job, works every day, and brought back a lot of money.”
As she spoke, she went to the cabinet, opened a drawer, and took out a heavy bag of silver coins, which indeed weighed quite a lot.
Seeing Jiang Bai's alarmed expression, Tian Rou's face also changed: "He lied to me? He didn't go gambling again, did he?"
“There was no gambling,” Jiang Bai answered slowly. Seeing Tian Rou clutch her chest and breathe a sigh of relief, he couldn’t help but say, “I think what he did this time was more serious than gambling.”
As she spoke, she recounted to Tian Rou in detail what she had seen and heard about outsiders over the past few days.
Tian Rou covered her mouth in fright and murmured, "How dare he?"
Jiang Cheng did behave himself for a while after Tian Rou threw a tantrum, but I never expected him to cause such a big mess again.
Seeing that her face had turned pale with fright, Jiang Bai quickly comforted her, "We're not sure if those people are bandits yet. I just wanted to let you know. If possible, don't let Jiang Cheng go out for the next few days."
"I'm going to lock him up for a few days." Tian Rou clenched her fist.
No matter how much of a scoundrel Jiang Cheng is, he is still the father of Tian Rou's child. Besides, he wants to take the money he earns home, and Tian Rou has no intention of giving up on him.
Despite receiving Tian Rou's assurance, Jiang Bai remained preoccupied.
On the way back, it was already quite dark. The carriage moved slowly forward. Jiang Bai lifted the curtain and looked out. He saw several torches lit up in the mountains not far away.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she told the driver to stop the car, saying, "I'm still worried about Jiangcheng, so I'll go check over there first. If I haven't returned in a quarter of an hour, you must hurry and find Zhao Yi to come and rescue me."
The coachman quickly tried to stop her: "Madam, this is too dangerous."
Jiang Bai's expression was resolute: "I have to go and see, not only for Jiangcheng, but also for the village."
She always found it very suspicious to have torches lit up late at night.
Without waiting for the driver to speak, she quietly followed after him. She was gathering herbs in the mountains at the time, and this mountain was like her own backyard; she could walk out of it with her eyes closed, and she knew every plant and tree inside and out.
Therefore, no one noticed that she was following them.
When they were a few meters away, Jiang Bai could see their faces clearly. They were indeed Jiang Cheng and those outsiders.
Jiang Cheng led the group to a cave entrance, but instead of going in himself, he took a bag of silver from the leader and excitedly headed back.
He hadn't walked more than a few dozen meters when Jiang Bai pinned him under a big tree.
Jiang Bai pressed the knife hard against Jiang Cheng's neck. The knife was sharp, and a bloody mark quickly appeared on Jiang Cheng's neck.
Jiang Cheng dared not shout, and in the darkness he could not see who it was. He could only stammer, "Hero, spare my life! Hero, spare my life! You can take all the silver in my bag, just don't kill me. I have a wife and son waiting for me at home."
Jiang Bai loosened his grip on the knife slightly and said, "Since you know you have family, why do you still associate with such a dangerous person?"
The voice was all too familiar. Jiang Cheng's eyes widened as he recognized the person, and he couldn't help but raise his voice: "Jiang Bai? It's you!"
Fearing they would alert the outsiders, Jiang Bai quickly covered Jiang Cheng's mouth and said, "Keep your voice down, do you want us both to die?"
Jiang Cheng mumbled a couple of sentences, but when he couldn't say anything more, he became quiet.
Jiang Bai released his grip and asked, "Who exactly are these people?"
Jiang Cheng's eyes welled up with tears as he stammered, "I swear I won't tell."
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt something hard pressed against his neck again. The cold touch against the wound sent a shiver down his spine, and he quickly said, "I'll talk."
"This group of people told me they were there to search for treasure."
"Treasure hunting?" Jiang Bai narrowed his eyes. "Where is the treasure?"
Jiang Cheng shook his head: "I don't know either."
