Chapter 104 Arrest

Jiang Bai released Jiang Cheng, patted the dust off his clothes, and said, "Go home quickly, Tian Rou is worried about you."

Hearing this, Jiang Cheng muttered a few times and couldn't help but say, "Don't go. Those people kill without blinking an eye. They'll kill you."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Bai scoffed, "Didn't you go and come back unscathed?"

Jiang Cheng said, "I'm a man, and you're a woman, how can we be the same? Besides, I'm just trying to earn some money. You're not short of money, why make trouble for yourself?"

His eyebrows drooped, looking like a pathetic, wronged person. He continued, "I know you usually like to meddle in other people's business, but this time it's really different. Those people are no good. You're ruthless, but they're even more ruthless. You can't beat them."

Jiang Bai nodded: "I know you care about me. I'll check the situation and come back as soon as possible, without letting them find out about me."

Jiang Cheng said, "Then be careful."

He heard a rustling sound, and then Jiang Bai's figure disappeared from his sight.

Jiang Cheng initially intended to wait a while, but gritted his teeth and quickly ran back, falling several times without realizing it.

At night, the moon was hidden by dark clouds, and the entire mountain was shrouded in darkness. Occasionally, small insects or unknown birds and frogs would make noises, making the surrounding environment even more eerie.

Jiang Cheng took a long and winding road to get down the mountain, and saw a bustling crowd. It was Zhao Yi leading his men.

He ran over immediately, shouting as he ran, "Help..."

At the same time, Jiang Bai arrived at the entrance of the cave he had just seen and ran into the group of people coming out of it. They sat around the entrance, lit torches, and presumably intended to stay there all night.

That's true. Mountain roads are complicated, so it's best not to walk on them late at night unless absolutely necessary.

Jiang Bai hid quietly, and vaguely heard the people chatting: "Finally found it."

"Put it in the cave for now, and we'll move it tomorrow."

"This time they've really struck it rich."

"Wouldn't that kid go down the mountain to complain?"

"How could that be? He was so scared he almost peed his pants just from looking at us."

"That person isn't a woman, is she?"

"What a pity, I didn't get to touch and look at it..."

After saying that, they burst into laughter.

Presumably, after finding the treasure, everyone relaxed, and they all gradually closed their eyes, with snores filling the air.

Jiang Bai gritted his teeth and tiptoed towards the cave entrance without disturbing anyone, entering the cave.

There was only one passage leading straight to the innermost part. Perhaps to prevent their companions from not being able to see the way when they entered, two torches were hung on the surrounding walls, illuminating the path clearly.

The passage wasn't long. At the end, it had been dug up, leaving several large pits. Soil was left unburied beside the pits, and in the middle sat a very old-fashioned box. The lock on the box had been deliberately broken.

Jiang Bai carefully opened the box a crack and was instantly dazzled by the glittering gold and silver jewelry.

She couldn't help but gasp and quickly covered her mouth with her hand, forgetting the weight of the box lid.

In an instant, the lid slammed back on with a heavy thud.

The thieves outside immediately woke up. They shouted, "Who goes there?" and then rushed inside in unison.

Jiang Bai felt a chill in his heart: It's all over.

There were about six or seven people outside. She was just a small woman, and even if she knew some martial arts, she would probably die here.

Thinking of this, she gritted her teeth and hid herself in the shadows.

The thief, however, failed to enter for a long time.

Hearing the sounds of weapons clashing, Jiang Bai quietly walked outside. When he reached a place where he could see outside the cave entrance, he was stunned.

The outside was illuminated by torches as if it were daytime, making Zhao Yi's figure stand out clearly.

He was dressed in white, holding a sword, and quickly slashed the arm of a stranger.

Seeing that the other side had a large number of people, the outsider whistled, and the group of people ran away in unison.

Zhao Yi didn't chase after him. Instead, he turned and ran into the cave, calling out as he ran, "Jiang Bai, are you there?"

Jiang Bai obediently stepped forward: "I'm here."

Zhao Yi suddenly felt his legs go weak.

He first pulled Jiang Bai over and looked him over. Seeing that the other party was completely unharmed, his fear and worry instantly turned into anger.

He said, "What are you doing here, a weak woman like you?"

Jiang Bai was already scared at this point and didn't dare to talk back to Zhao Yi. He just softly tugged at Zhao Yi's clothes and whispered, "I'm sorry, I was wrong. I overestimated myself."

Upon hearing her words, Zhao Yi looked at her pitiful little face and couldn't bring himself to say anything to scold her.

He took a breath, gently put his arm around her shoulder, and said, "It's good that you're alright."

Jiang Cheng stared in disbelief: That's it? Couldn't they at least have said a few more words of criticism?

This guy ventured into the bandits' den alone and almost got himself killed, yet he had fewer wounds than Jiang Bai? The cut on his neck from Jiang Bai was still hurting!

Before he could voice his grievances, Zhao Yi and Jiang Bai, who had come to their senses, both turned to look at him.

Jiang Cheng couldn't help but cover his neck and take a step back: "What do you want to do?"

I have a feeling that this couple wanted to cover up the crime.

Jiang Bai said, "Those people ran away. Do you know where their hideout is?"

Jiang Cheng shrank back, not daring to speak.

Zhao Yi said, "If we don't catch them quickly, I'm afraid they might harm their families in retaliation."

Jiang Cheng thought of Wang Xiufen, Tian Rou and her son, and immediately said in a trembling voice, "I once followed them to a place, but I'm not sure if that was their hideout."

"Take us there to have a look first," Zhao Yi decided immediately.

Jiang Cheng led the group down the mountain and headed toward a row of dilapidated houses that he remembered. From a distance of several dozen meters, he could see a faint light shining from those houses.

Everyone breathed a slight sigh of relief, knowing they had come to the right place.

Zhao Yi directed his yamen runners to surround the house in layers. When the outsiders heard the commotion, they jumped out and started fighting.

Soon, the outsiders were captured alive.

Zhao Yi ordered the constables to tie the man up. One of them saw Jiang Cheng standing next to Jiang Bai and couldn't help but shout, "That man is also one of our accomplices, why don't you tie him up?"

Zhao Yi calmly glanced at Jiang Cheng, and seeing him shrinking back and trembling, said, "This is an undercover agent sent by the government."

"Pah!" The man spat at Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng nimbly dodged, then looked up at the people who had been captured, and immediately sensed something was wrong.

He pointed tremblingly at the group and said to Zhao Yi, "Brother-in-law, one of them is missing."

"What?" Zhao Yi frowned.

"The leader is missing," Jiang Cheng replied definitively.
