Chapter 16: Crutch (1/2)

Chapter 16: Crutches

The next morning, Tang Wan was awakened by the sunlight shining through the window.

She hadn't slept so comfortably in a long time.

At least it's not like being in the educated youth camp, where I would be woken up by others getting up even when I didn't want to.

It’s getting late now. After several days of rain, today is a sunny day.

Tang Wan sat up from the bed and saw a crutch beside the bed.

With this crutch, Tang Wanqing can move much more conveniently.

When she left the main room, she saw Grandma Bai watering the two peach trees in the yard.

Seeing Tang Wan coming out of the house, Grandma Bai quickly put down the bucket and said, "Awake, how was your sleep?"

"Grandma made the bed, but I slept so soundly. Did I get up too late?" Tang Wan looked at the sun that was already high in the sky, feeling a little unhappy.

She didn't know that she had slept until now.

"No, it's still early. You are injured and can't go to work. Why are you getting up so early? You need more sleep to look healthy." Grandma Bai was wearing a green buttoned top and black wide-leg pants today, which looked comfortable and neat.

"Grandma, you must have lived in a wealthy family before." Tang Wan accidentally asked what was on her mind.

As soon as she said it, she began to regret it. It was not the right time to say such things. It was not praising someone but destroying them.

Seeing her flustered expression, Grandma Bai smiled and said, "Don't be nervous. It's nothing shameful. You are quite knowledgeable. You have been a servant for a while. Now you are free and don't have to wait on others."

Grandma Bai's expression was quite relaxed, but Tang Wan always felt that she didn't think so.

The wealthy families at that time are now the targets of criticism and struggle, but few of them have suffered any consequences, so it is better not to mention them.

"Thanks to grandma's crutch, it's now more convenient for me." Tang Wan changed the subject and said while looking at the crutch in her hand.

"This is A Zheng's apology for you. He brought it back early in the morning. Even though your foot is injured like this, he can't get rid of it." Grandma Bai was happy when she saw the crutch.

Normally, after they hunted the pigs, they would have to wait until the next night or the third day to come back.

He had killed two pigs yesterday, so it should have taken him two days to come back. But Qin Zheng came back as soon as she opened the door in the morning. Without saying anything, he just left his crutch behind and left.

"How can I blame Comrade Qin Zheng for this? It's also because I didn't notice that time went too deep..."

"You don't have to say anything. Those two brats told me yesterday that if you really get into trouble this time, it will be related to them." Grandma Bai said as she walked into the kitchen.

“I left you some food this morning, just eat it.

The simple meal that Grandma Bai mentioned was already beyond the living standards of most people at that time.

A bowl of rice porridge with rice oil, a small plate of pickles and an egg.

The amount is just right, and it’s very suitable for people who don’t have much appetite in the morning.

You will never see porridge made from pure rice like this in any other household. In fact, since rice is not produced here, most people have never eaten rice at home.

"It's rich and abundant." Such a meal is more than just rich and abundant nowadays.

"It's just porridge and some side dishes. We'll have something lighter at noon." Grandma Bai said as she placed the meal in front of Tang Wan.

Tang Wan simply washed up and started to eat breakfast.

Grandma Bai's cooking skills always made Tang Wan wonder if she was a chef from somewhere. She could even cook simple rice porridge just right.
