Chapter Forty-Four: Obeying the Rules

Li pursed her lips, still worried, but she refrained from asking any further questions.

On the other hand, the shopkeeper certainly hadn't thought that far ahead.

Simply put, the shopkeeper really wanted to try it, because he had heard many people say that the sauerkraut fish was incredibly delicious, so he came to try it.

After Gu Sang finished cooking the sauerkraut fish and served it, the shopkeeper smelled the aroma and immediately gave Gu Sang a thumbs up.

"Just by smelling it, I know that your skill level is absolutely superb!"

Hearing the praise, Gu Sang couldn't help but chuckle, then said, "So what? Besides, the manager's restaurant is even more outstanding, as I know."

The two of them started flattering each other, one after the other.

However, they both knew that these things were just to liven up the atmosphere. Another point was that the shopkeeper himself wouldn't care too much about such things, so this situation was just right.

"Please eat first, I'll go to the kitchen to get back to work."

"Go, go."

The shopkeeper waved his hand and told Gu Sang to go about her business.

After Gu Sang returned to the kitchen, she was silent for a moment, then smiled faintly and continued making the sauerkraut fish.

The innkeeper never left. Even after all the customers had left, he was still drinking tea and leisurely waiting for Gu Sang.

"What's the matter, shopkeeper?"

Gu Sang knew very well that the shopkeeper hadn't left because he probably wanted to talk to her. Fortunately, she had finished dealing with her own business, so now she could say a few words to the shopkeeper.

When the shopkeeper saw Gu Sang come out, he asked with concern, "Young friend, are you done with your work?"

"Well, the kitchen work is basically done, and there's nothing else to do."

Gu Sang smiled and nodded.

The innkeeper smiled and nodded. After a moment, he carefully considered his words and asked, "It's like this, young friend. You gave me a recipe for boiled fish before, and now that you've opened a restaurant, so..."

The shopkeeper didn't want to ask too obviously, since it would seem like she was trying to bully someone. But in fact, she really didn't have that intention; she was just asking out of curiosity.

If you don't get to the bottom of this, then it will always be on your mind, won't it?

Upon hearing this, Gu Sang raised an eyebrow, then shook her head with amusement and said, "Don't worry, shopkeeper, I still have basic morals. I only make pickled fish here, but don't worry, shopkeeper, I will never make boiled fish. Even if my family wants to eat it, I will order it from Yipinju. From the moment I sold this skill to Yipinju, I have pretended that I don't know it."

After Gu Sang finished speaking, she smiled slightly.

This made the shopkeeper a little embarrassed. He coughed, waved his hand, and said, "I...I didn't mean that."

What you said made the shopkeeper, a grown man, feel a little embarrassed. In truth, the shopkeeper didn't really mean anything by it, but things have already escalated to this point, so there seems to be no need to discuss anything else. That alone is enough to put one's mind at ease.

The shopkeeper sighed helplessly.

"Young friend, please don't be angry. I've been thinking about this matter for several days, and I'm still a little worried, so I came here to ask for confirmation."

The shopkeeper knew that his behavior probably gave others the impression of being harsh and rigid, but he also had a large family to support, so he couldn't be too unrestrained.

Fortunately, Gu Sang was very tolerant of all of this, and most importantly, the shopkeeper understood what was going on, so Gu Sang shook her head.

"Actually, it's only natural for the shopkeeper to think this way. After all, no matter what happens, protecting our own interests is the most important thing, isn't it?"

If it were me, I would have done the same.

After Gu Sang finished speaking, she smiled slightly again.

Upon hearing Gu Sang's words, the shopkeeper finally breathed a sigh of relief and put down his teacup.

"Hey! To be honest, young friend, I've been really worried about you all the way here. I was always afraid that there might be other editors involved. My heart was pounding like crazy. But now that I've heard what you said, I'm finally relieved. It's good that you're alright, it's good that you're alright!"

The shopkeeper is really having a tough time. Things have escalated to this point, and while the sauerkraut fish has become famous, even if the shopkeeper isn't malicious, he's still worried that Gu Sang might use the boiled fish as a signature dish to sell!

You know, this boiled fish is the signature dish of Yipinju. If another restaurant opens up, wouldn't we be doomed?

So the shopkeeper had to mentally prepare himself for a long time before finally deciding to come and ask Gu Sang for clarification.

Now that things have finally been clarified, Gu Sang felt a sense of relief.

Even after the shopkeeper left, Gu Sang's smile never faded. In fact, at that moment, Gu Sang even found the shopkeeper quite interesting.

"how?"

Li Rong also stepped forward at this moment, and when she saw Gu Sang's appearance, she asked her a question out of curiosity.

Why does she seem so happy?

But what could possibly make her so happy?

Gu Sang slightly raised her chin.

"The manager of Yipinju must be in a very difficult position. He had wanted to ask me about this for a while, but he never dared to ask too much. Now he couldn't help himself and came here. I wonder how nervous he must have been on the way."

Upon hearing this, Li Rong glanced at the signboard and then, recalling the innkeeper's restless demeanor in the restaurant, couldn't help but smile.

"The shopkeeper is a very good person."

Gu Sang nodded.

"I know, and integrity is essential in this line of work. I won't do anything that would damage my integrity, so don't worry."

Li Rong came up to her and asked, "Does Gu Sang not know what this means?"

However, Gu Sang felt that this was unnecessary, because she clearly knew the bottom line of being a chef: one should not do anything ungrateful or go back on one's word.

The recipe for boiled fish has already been sold to them, so Gu Sang will never make it again. This is the rule in the industry, and she understands it, so naturally she won't touch it.

As for the rest, with so many recipes available, Gu Sang was not at all intimidated.
