Chapter 16 Moving

The next morning

Jiang Yuwei got up in the morning to change Ning Zhao and Ning Huaizhi's dressings, helped them use the toilet, left them some food, and instructed Ning Wan to get them water and feed them. She then rushed to the new house to start building the stove.

Although it was a bit strenuous for one person to work, Jiang Yuwei had the foundation from the original owner's previous farm work, and now she drank spiritual spring water and ate food from the space every day, so her physical fitness had naturally improved a lot. She finished building a stove in one morning, and then she lit a fire to dry the stove and heated the kang (a heated brick bed) to remove the dampness from the house, so that she could make do with moving in tonight.

Taking advantage of this free time, Jiang Yuwei went to the hillside to find suitable wood to repair the dilapidated doors and windows. Now that they live at the foot of the mountain, which is quite far from where the villagers live, it would be extremely dangerous if snakes, insects, or wild animals came down the mountain and crawled into the house at night. Therefore, the doors and windows could not be too broken.

After repairing the doors and windows, Jiang Yuwei noticed that the house didn't even have a courtyard wall, which was quite unsafe. She knew she didn't have enough money to hire someone to do major repairs, so she could only find some stones, mix them with mud, and build a shallow wall and small courtyard for the time being. That way, she could feel more at ease when Ning Huaizhi was at home while she went out to earn money.

After everything was settled, Jiang Yuwei happily went to Aunt Zhou's house, which was the closest to her home, to borrow a cart to go back to the Ning family to move her things.

Jiang Yuwei had just pushed the cart through the door when she heard Ning Yunyun's voice:

"You bastard, let me see what you're hiding. You've already separated from the family, yet you're still lingering here. You're shameless!"

"Ning Yunyun, what are you doing?"

Ning Huaizhi stared intently at his younger sister with bloodshot eyes.

Jiang Yuwei, disregarding everything else, put down the cart and rushed into the house. She yanked Ning Yunyun away from Ning Wan, who was grabbing Ning Wan's hair and trying to reach into her arms, and slapped her hard across the face. She then shielded Ning Wan behind her and angrily shouted:

"You're the bastard, the bastard born of a bastard, the bastard who was born of a mother but not raised by one. You're a married girl, yet you run back to your parents' house every day, meddling in their affairs. If word gets out, people will laugh their heads off!"

Ning Yunyun's face was burning with pain from Jiang Yuwei's slap. She wasn't one to back down easily, and immediately tried to pull Jiang Yuwei away, all the while cursing under her breath.

"You're the bastard! Your whole family are bastards who owe money and won't pay it back! Look at your gambling father! He goes out gambling every day. I bet if he keeps gambling like this, he'll have to sell his wife to pay off the debts!"

These words naturally did not provoke Jiang Yuwei. After all, she also hoped that her family members would suffer a terrible death. She reached out to block Ning Yunyun's attacks while also freeing up her hand to hit her.

Ning Yunyun was quickly defeated. How could a weak woman like her possibly defeat Jiang Yuwei, who had fought against more than a dozen zombies? Jiang Yuwei used grappling techniques to pin her down, and Ning Yunyun couldn't move at all, repeatedly begging for mercy.

"Hey, hey, you're hurting me! Let go of me, brother, my good brother, control your wife!"

Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei tightened her grip and whispered in her ear:

“If you continue to meddle in our family affairs, and let your two pig-brained sons bully Ning Zhao and Ning Wan, I will go to your husband’s house and make a scene. If your mother can’t control you, I will have your husband and mother-in-law discipline you properly.”

Ning Yunyun was usually most afraid of her mother-in-law, so when she heard Jiang Yuwei say this, she quickly smiled apologetically:

"Hehe, good sister-in-law, please let me go. I will never dare to provoke you again. I promise to make sure that Xu Feng and Xu Jing will not bother your children. Please let me go this time."

Seeing her say that, Jiang Yuwei didn't want to argue with her any further. She needed to finish moving before dark, so she dragged her into the yard before letting go and staring into Ning Yunyun's eyes, she said fiercely:

"roll!"

Seeing this, Ning Yunyun didn't dare to linger and had no choice but to run away in a panic.

Jiang Yuwei then went back to her room to pack her things, while Ning Huaizhi stared at her busy figure, finally unable to hold back his question:

"You...you know grappling techniques? How could a woman like you know those things?"

Jiang Yuwei stopped what she was doing, pondered for a moment, turned around and smiled faintly at Ning Huaizhi:

"I only know a little bit. When I was a child, I picked up a picture book on the mountain and learned from it. Now I can't find that picture book anymore."

Ning Huaizhi nodded and said:

"So Yuwei had such a story when she was a child. No wonder you are so healthy now."

Jiang Yuwei didn't want to chat with him any longer, so she just smiled awkwardly a few times and turned to pack her things. There weren't many things in the room, and the important items were stored in Jiang Yuwei's spatial storage. A single cart could easily carry them all. After loading the cart, Jiang Yuwei called out into the room:

"I'll go deliver something first, and I'll come back to pick you up later."

He left without looking back. When he arrived at the new house, he saw that the stove was almost dry and the kang (heated brick bed) was all heated. He then laid out the straw mats, unloaded everything from the cart, and put everything away before closing the door and going back to pick up Ning Huaizhi and the others.

When Jiang Yuwei arrived at the Ning family's house, she saw Chen Guixiang waiting aggressively in the courtyard, glaring at her angrily and shouting:

"You jinx! How dare you hit Yunyun? I really regret marrying you. You're not worth a single tael of silver. Now that we've separated the family, you'll have to pay off your father's debts. Also, you have to pay me back the money for the eldest son and Ning Zhao's medical treatment. It's not much. Just write me an IOU for three taels of silver, and I'll let you go!"

When Sun saw that her mother-in-law was about to ask Jiang Yuwei for money, she hurriedly and eagerly took out paper and pen and threw them in front of Jiang Yuwei:

"Sister-in-law, if you have any shame, hurry up and write the IOU, otherwise we won't let you go!"

Seeing the two of them singing in unison, Jiang Yuwei couldn't help but laugh out loud:

"Haha, perfect timing! We don't want to leave either. How about this: we'll void the family division agreement and just stay in the Ning family, eating and drinking for free. After all, you, as a mother, can't let your own son starve, can you?"

As Jiang Yuwei spoke, she glanced at Sun Shi's flushed face and Chen Guixiang's constipated expression, and continued:

"Don't worry, you can support our family of four by contributing your money and effort. Once the child is cured and my husband is cured, we can work to support the family. In the long run, the Ning family won't be at a loss, right?"

Upon hearing that she also had to support the eldest son's family, Madam Sun became anxious, put her hands on her hips, pointed at Jiang Yuwei, and scolded:

"You're truly shameless! You, you have no shame, you..."

Seeing that Madam Sun couldn't come up with anything else to say, Chen Guixiang spoke directly:

“The family division agreement has already been written, so it’s not a joke. I won’t rush you to pay back the money since you just separated the family. I will pay for Ning Zhao and the eldest son’s medical treatment, but you must pay back the money your father owes. Not a penny less than a tael of silver!”
