Chapter 41 He Only Has Her in His Eyes

Shen Mingzhi didn't understand, but she got the general idea: he was protecting his country, which was why he ended up in this situation.

"When he has an attack, will he hurt people? Can't we give him anesthesia and let him sleep for a few days?" Shen Mingzhi asked.

“After that incident, he developed allergies to many medications, and he was especially allergic to anesthetics; administering one would be life-threatening,” Jiang Guofu replied.

Shen Mingzhi fell silent. Medical care is not advanced now, and he is allergic to many drugs. If he gets a serious illness, it could easily lead to major problems.

Moreover, testing for allergens is quite troublesome.

"I happen to have nothing to do these past few days, so I'll stay here and take care of him." After all, the Jiang family saved her and her child during her most difficult time, and she couldn't possibly abandon him completely in his current condition.

She also wanted to know if there was really no way to remedy Jiang Shaochen's current situation.

“I just hope you can come and talk to him. He’s been unconscious for almost a day, and I’m very worried about him. Maybe if you talk to him, he’ll wake up.” Jiang Guofu’s tone carried a hint of pleading.

Shen Mingzhi hummed in agreement, but still felt something was off.

In this situation, wouldn't Song Wanyin be a better fit? Besides, the Song family has been frequently visiting the Jiang family after learning about her situation, which already shows their attitude, doesn't it?

She assumed the Chiang family had already applied for a divorce. It was pointless for her to bring it up, but as a military family, the Chiang family was entitled to do so.

However, she didn't ask any further questions.

Jiang Guofu's troops had other matters to attend to, so he didn't stay at the hospital any longer.

Shen Mingzhi was about to go find the doctor to ask about his condition when the ward door was pushed open. Jiang Yinyin brought Song Wanyin in, and as soon as she saw her, she immediately questioned, "Who let you come?!"

“Your dad invited me here himself, so what?” Shen Mingzhi crossed her arms and answered confidently.

Jiang Yinyin took a deep breath, but before she could speak, she heard her continue, "It's really quite a coincidence. How come you all came over right after your dad left?"

"What are you so smug about?" Song Wanyin said coldly as she approached Shen Mingzhi, sizing her up. "Don't forget, I still have something on you."

"Then why don't you spread the word?" Shen Mingzhi was also puzzled. Song Wanyin said she would spread the word on May Day, but May Day has been over for several days, and there hasn't been a single rumor about her.

Song Wanyin simply smiled faintly and then walked around her.

Jiang Yinyin stepped forward and forcefully pushed Shen Mingzhi aside, warning her at the same time, "If you have any shame, get out of here! Sister Wanyin and my second brother are childhood sweethearts, and their marriage is about to be arranged. It's all your fault for coming here to interfere. My parents and my second brother are kind, but that's no excuse for you to delay their marriage!"

"Your dad sent me to see him, don't think I care about staying here." Shen Mingzhi scoffed and walked to the side.

Song Wanyin reached out to hold Jiang Shaochen's hand, but he avoided her as soon as she grasped it.

Shen Mingzhi saw his movement and suddenly looked at him.

When her eyes met Jiang Shao Chen's, her heart skipped a beat... Did he hear what she just said?

Jiang Shaozhen didn't hear much, except that she said she was there because of Jiang Guofu.

Feeling inexplicably guilty, she avoided eye contact.

"Shao Chen!" Song Wanyin exclaimed excitedly, "You're finally awake!"

She was about to lean down and hug him.

Jiang Shaozhen immediately raised his hand to block her.

But his eyes remained fixed on Shen Mingzhi, his silent gaze making Shen Mingzhi feel as if she were on fire.

Even though there's air conditioning in the ward, why does she feel so hot?

Seeing that he completely ignored her, Song Wanyin showed a sad expression. "Shaochen, my parents told you this. You should think about it. There aren't many days left."

Jiang Yinyin immediately said, "Second Brother, Sister Wanyin came to see you specially. She's more worried about you than anyone else in your current condition."

"Zhizhi," Jiang Shaozhen called out to Shen Mingzhi.

Shen Mingzhi raised her eyes, but still didn't look into his eyes, instead staring at the wound on his hand. "Hmm, what happened?"

When Jiang Shao Chen saw her respond to him, his eyes softened a little. He raised his hand and took off his oxygen mask before looking at Jiang Yin Yin. "My wife is here. It's not appropriate for you to bring Wan Yin here."

These one sentence brought tears to Song Wanyin's eyes.

She was so confident when she came in, but now she feels so embarrassed.

A feeling of humiliation surged through her, and tears welled in her eyes. "Don't you know that there's absolutely no chance between you and her?!"

“I’m married, and you’re unmarried. It wouldn’t look good for you to come here, and my wife wouldn’t be happy to see you like this.” Jiang Shaozhen propped himself up and sat up.

Upon hearing this, Song Wanyin turned to leave, but before she did, she glared fiercely at Shen Mingzhi.

Jiang Yinyin quickly chased after her.

When only the two of them were left in the ward, Shen Mingzhi coughed lightly, "You recovered quite quickly."

“My illness is quite dangerous when it flares up, but once I get through it, I’ll be fine soon. It’s just that this time I took the medicine to try to control it, but I couldn’t, and I had an allergic reaction… and something went wrong,” Jiang Shaozhen said. He didn’t originally need to be hospitalized, but the allergic reaction almost killed him, so he was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Shen Mingzhi was somewhat moved when she saw the numerous wounds on his body.

"Is there really no way? Western medicine is quite advanced; why don't you go and get it checked out..."

“For a family like ours, there’s no reason why we can’t go abroad,” Jiang Shaozhen explained to her calmly.

Shen Mingzhi responded with an "oh".

"I'm thirsty," Jiang Shaozhen said.

Shen Mingzhi silently went to pour him some water. The water from the thermos was scalding hot, so she picked it up and gently blew on it.

She walked to Jiang Shaochen's bedside and handed him the water, saying, "It's a little hot."

Jiang Shao Chen reached out and took it, placing it on the bedside table. He then grabbed her wrist and said, "Song Wan Yin and I are impossible, and I've never considered divorce."

Shen Mingzhi didn't know how to answer, so she withdrew her hand and said, "I don't want to hold you back, and besides, I didn't say that I would forgive you for hiding things from me."

Jiang Shaochen hadn't seen his children for a few days and actually missed them very much, as well as their parents.

"How's the child? It's getting hotter and hotter. If you're considering moving, I can help you." Jiang Shao Chen hoped she could move back to the Jiang family home.

"I've been thinking about it these past couple of days. You should focus on recovering from your injury first. Don't worry about me," Shen Mingzhi said casually.

“You and the child are my concerns. Whether you hate me or like me, there’s no room for discussion.” Jiang Shao Chen looked up at her, his gaze forceful.

Shen Mingzhi was furious.

“Before we got divorced, this was my responsibility and my obligation.” After saying this, Jiang Shaochen picked up the water glass next to him and took a small sip.

He couldn't stand seeing her so close to other men, yet he was powerless to stop it.
