"Tingyu, when you meet everyone later, don't say anything to your father."
"Once we're back in Peach Blossom Spring and settled in, I'll tell him everything, okay?"
"Okay, Grandma, I'll listen to you."
Li Lanzhen put Tingyu in her basket and continued walking.
After walking for less than half an hour, they saw the carriage and Han Minghai and his group.
Han Minghai also saw Li Lanzhen and immediately ran over to greet her.
"Mother, Mother, you're back! We were all so worried about you!"
As he spoke, he took the basket from her back and carried it on his own back.
Listening to the rain, swaying back and forth in the basket, was half asleep.
She didn't even know it was someone else carrying her.
Li Lanzhen placed the three large food boxes on the ground and said with a gentle smile.
"What's there to worry about? Mother is back safe and sound. Have you all eaten anything?"
“We’ve eaten. We’ve had wild vegetable pancakes and drunk water. We’re still not hungry. Mother, let’s leave here quickly.”
Li Lanzhen knew that Han Minghai was afraid of other things happening and only wanted to go home as soon as possible.
She thought so too, and decided to leave this troublesome place and return to Peach Blossom Spring.
"Okay, lunchtime is over now. Let's eat our fill and then continue on our way."
Li Lanzhen carried one food box in each hand, while Han Minghai carried the other food box in his hand.
As he spoke, he came to stand before everyone.
Chang Fu and the others quickly came forward to greet them.
"Master, you're back!"
Li Lanzhen nodded, looking at Tingyu's mother, who was still lying unconscious in the car, not yet awake.
But her complexion had improved a lot, and her breathing was very steady.
It must have been the effect of that bowl of medicine and the spring water.
That's good. When we get back to Peach Blossom Spring, we'll have Xue Bao's mother take a look and give him some proper treatment.
It would probably take a year to recover from the miscarriage, not to mention that my body has been ruined by years of mistreatment by my stepmother-in-law.
Lu Boyan saw Li Lanzhen and his daughter return, although he noticed that Li Lanzhen did not bring back any items from the Lu residence.
But he was happy as long as they returned safely.
"Auntie, you're back. Thank you so much."
Li Lanzhen knew he was suspicious, since she hadn't brought anything with her, but seeing his sincere concern for her safety, she was happy.
He nodded and said, "You're back. Everything has been resolved. I'll tell you all about it when we get to Peach Blossom Spring."
Then she said to everyone, "Let's eat something simple first, fill our stomachs and hurry up. We'll have a proper meal when we find a place to camp tonight."
I opened the three food boxes and found two braised pork hocks and three braised ducks, all cut up.
There were a dozen or so flatbreads and a small pot of soft, well-cooked rice porridge.
Seeing this, Li Lanzhen felt quite grateful to Manager Hua.
It must have been after hearing her say that Lu Boyan's wife had been in a coma since her miscarriage that she packed a jar of porridge for her.
Li Lanzhen went to the carriage and rummaged through the basket on her back.
He took out chopsticks, three small bowls, three large bowls, and spiritual spring water from the three water pouches.
After thinking for a moment, he took out a jar of pickled vegetables.
"Come on, everyone, eat quickly. Once we're full, let's go."
As he spoke, he brought over the pot of rice porridge, ladled out three small bowls, and handed one of the bowls to Lu Boyan.
"Feed it to your wife and see how much she can eat?"
Then he gave the other two small bowls of rice porridge to Tingyu and his younger brother.
After a short while, they finished their meal, packed all their belongings into the carriage, and Tingyu and his younger brother sat in the carriage next to their mother.
Li Lanzhen covered them with blankets.
Although the valley was not very flat, the shrubs and weeds had withered, so the carriage did not feel very bumpy.
At this pace, they probably won't reach the place where they camped last night.
That day, he and Silver Fox each rode a horse, galloping as fast as they could to reach that place.
Today, apart from one horse-drawn carriage, everyone else walked.
There's no other way; we can't just take a horse out of the space and ride it around, that would be too ostentatious.
Xue Bao, along with Han Mingxiang and Li Xishui, scouted ahead.
Han Minghai drove the carriage, while Lu Boyan stayed by the carriage, glancing at his wife and children from time to time.
Li Lanzhen walked behind the carriage, with Chang Fu and the other four men following closely around her.
A little while later, Xue Bao returned and walked up to Li Lanzhen and said...
"Auntie, we haven't found a suitable place to camp up ahead."
I see we'll be staying in the middle of this deep ravine tonight. The grass is dry, the ground is quite dry, and there aren't any large wild animals on the mountainsides either side.
Li Lanzhen said, "Okay, you handle this."
Xue Bao said, "Auntie, you take your time. We'll go ahead and tidy up our place for the night."
He spoke to Chang Fu and a few others.
"You guys come with me too, let's tidy up the place where we'll be camping tonight."
Chang Fu looked at Li Lanzhen.
Li Lanzhen said, "Go ahead." Only then did the five of them follow the snow leopard.
When Li Lanzhen and the carriage arrived at their lodging for the night, the sun was just hanging over the western mountains.
Although the trees were withered and yellow, the light was already very dim.
They could see the campfire from afar.
Upon closer inspection, they saw that Snow Leopard and his companions were still busy at work.
Li Lanzhen saw that they had already lit six bonfires.
Four simple shacks were erected. The shacks were triangular, very simple, but they provided shelter from the wind.
Han Minghai stopped the carriage, unloaded the horses, and let them eat hay to the side.
"Chang'an, Chang Le, you two come here and carry these bedding over to spread them on the straw next to the campfire so that the scholar's wife can lie down and rest."
The two girls quickly laid out straw mats and blankets on the thatch next to a campfire, then stepped back.
Lu Boyan carried his wife over, laid her down on the bed, and covered her with a blanket.
After they had all left the carriage, Li Lanzhen asked Xue Bao.
"Xue Bao, is there any water nearby?"
"Auntie, there's a river, but it's a bit far from here."
"Okay, you guys come over here and take this bucket to fetch water. We'll cook when we get back."
As she spoke, Li Lanzhen quickly took out a medium-sized iron pot, two earthenware jars, three wooden buckets, and a wooden basin from her spatial storage.
Xue Bao and his men came over and took the wooden buckets and basins from the carriage to fetch water from the river.
Li Lanzhen then took out ten jin of cornmeal, more than 100 wild vegetable pancakes, a jar of pickled vegetables, 20 salted duck eggs, and a large bowl for each person from her spatial storage.
They put all these things into a basket.
Inside the carriage, each person had a mattress and a quilt, one set per person, according to the number of people here.
After putting these things on the carriage, she called over two girls to help carry them.
Li Lanzhen saw that Xue Bao and the others had already built two stoves.
They were all simple: dig a hole in the ground, then pile three stones on top to form a stove pit, put a pot on top, light a fire underneath, and you could cook.
