The sales clerk spoke fluent French, demonstrating the various functions of the knife by turning the handle.
Lin Li nodded, noticing that words could be engraved on the side of the military knife, and asked the salesperson to engrave the two pinyin letters "Lao San" on the blade.
Lin Li stood in front of the appliance counter for a long time.
She chose the smallest Sony recorder; its black body made it lightweight and portable, and the included stereo headphones made her want to try them out.
The sound quality is very clear.
"Get me one!"
Lin Li spoke in standard, fluent French.
"Okay!" The sales clerk immediately smiled.
After paying, she headed towards the children's clothing section.
The music from the carousel in the children's clothing section caught Lin Li's attention.
The shelves were filled with dark blue navy uniforms, which reminded her of how her two little ones looked wearing them.
"Hello! I'd like to buy two of these navy uniforms."
The sales clerk following behind her immediately asked for the model number, quickly retrieved the item, and then continued to follow her.
In front of the toy counter, a set of exquisite tin train models caught Lin Li's eye.
The two kids often argued over who got to play with the train, so this time they each bought a set.
The green steam locomotive pulled four carriages, making a "clack-clack" sound as the wheels turned, just like the real train she saw at the Paris train station.
The salesperson immediately stepped forward to demonstrate how to wind up the train. Watching the little train travel at a steady speed along the track, Lin Li seemed to see two little ones playing on the ground.
The sports area next door displays footballs of various colors, including a red and white Adidas football with the World Cup logo printed on it.
Lin Li chose the smallest size ball, number 5, and pressed the surface of the ball with her fingers to feel its elasticity.
"I want both this soccer ball and that toy train."
The sales clerk immediately smiled and nodded, then turned to instruct her subordinates to hurry up and prepare.
When Lin Li walked to the stationery section, the mechanical pencils caught her eye.
This type of push-button pencil is rarely seen in Beijing. The metal barrel is engraved with fine lines, and the matching colored lead can draw lines in different colors.
She picked up a pen and drew a pine tree on the test paper; the pen moved smoothly.
The plastic pencil case next to her was printed with cartoon patterns. She specifically chose the one with a train engine on it, thinking she could put her mechanical pencil and newly bought colored eraser in it together.
"I want two sets of this too."
"OK!"
Now Lin Li buys the same gifts for both kids.
After buying several outfits for myself in the women's clothing section, I paid for them all at once.
Carrying large and small bags, she walked out of the department store and found a secluded alley nearby. After putting most of her things into her spatial storage, she slowly returned to the driver's waiting spot with only a small portion of her belongings.
That evening, Lin Li boarded a plane back to Hong Kong.
Twelve hours later, she arrived safely at Hong Kong International Airport.
As soon as she stepped out of the airport, she saw Awei already waiting for her outside.
"Dr. Lin, over here!"
Awei raised his hand high and waved vigorously at her.
Lin Li pushed a luggage cart filled with large and small suitcases to him. "Why are you here?"
"Mr. Yu knew you were coming back on this plane, so he specifically asked me to pick you up."
As Awei spoke, he prepared to lift two black leather suitcases from the luggage cart, but the weight inside made him stumble.
Lin Li immediately took his arm and smiled.
"Do you have time in a bit?"
"some!"
Awei immediately replied that he had received orders from Mr. Yu to accompany Dr. Lin throughout the entire process.
"Take me to a real estate agency."
When Awei heard this, his eyes lit up.
Is Dr. Lin planning to buy a house in Gangcheng?
This is wonderful!
"Okay, I know a real estate agency with an excellent reputation. I'll take you there!"
Awei put the two suitcases back into the cart and pushed it towards the parking lot outside.
He already knew that Lin Li had gone to France to treat Mr. Luo's illness, so he assumed that the money was from Mr. Luo for the treatment.
Luo Zhennan: I only gave one box.
An hour later, Lin Li was sitting in the waiting room of a real estate agency. Awei had brought two suitcases and sat properly behind her.
"Ms. Lin, we have already arranged to view the villa in Kadoorie Hill at 10:00 AM."
Real estate agent Mr. Chen handed me a cup of hot milk tea, and the gold ring on his finger was particularly eye-catching in the sunlight.
Looking at the composed woman before him, he found it hard to believe that she could produce such a huge sum of cash at once.
Hong Kong's real estate market is currently on the rise, especially in the top-tier villa areas where transaction prices have already exceeded ten million Hong Kong dollars.
Lin Li's requirement for the "best location" undoubtedly pointed to those hillside areas where celebrities gather.
A black sedan drove along the tree-lined road in Kowloon Tong, its wheels rustling over fallen leaves.
At the entrance to Kadoorie Hill stands an ornate iron gate, and security guards carefully check reservation information before slowly allowing entry.
The phoenix trees lining both sides of the road stretched out their branches and leaves, cutting the sunlight into dappled spots that fell on the rooftops of the villas hidden in the greenery.
Lin Li looked at the buildings along the way through the car window. Colonial-style white villas and modern glass curtain walls appeared alternately, and maids occasionally flashed by among the neatly trimmed hedges in the courtyard.
“Each villa here comes with its own garden and garage.”
Mr. Chen pointed to a light gray building by the roadside and introduced it.
