Qin Ying was a little dazed the whole afternoon, not only because Chen Shuyun had activated the Security Department to investigate her, but also because she was worried about Fu Hanzhou.
Everyone said he would never come back.
Although she kept comforting herself that Fu Hanzhou would be fine, and she still had a way out.
But there is another possibility, Fu Hanzhou was injured, unconscious, and unconscious...
What should we do now?
As the setting sun dyed the streets dark red, Qin Ying walked out of the school gate clutching her schoolbag.
The military green jeep parked at the school gate made her eyes sore - she had never hoped so much that the person getting out of the car was Fu Hanzhou.
"Is there any news about Captain Fu?"
"Sister-in-law, not yet..."
Xiaocheng still shook his head as usual.
She lowered her head and got into the back seat. The rustling of the sycamore leaves passing by the car window could not cover up Wei Zhuolan's words "He won't come back" buzzing in her ears.
When I opened the door, the scent of Fu Hanzhou seemed to be getting weaker and weaker.
The faint smell of tobacco and his unique domineering aura are now dissipating bit by bit.
Everyone in the family was there, so she said hello and went back to the bedroom.
Xu Jinshu knew that she was worried about Fu Hanzhou, so the words of comfort stayed on his lips and he didn't say them out loud, so he just let her go.
Qin Ying fell onto the bed exhausted and saw several bullet casings on the bedside. Fu Hanzhou said that they were the souvenirs of his first shooting.
Several bullet casings shone coldly in the moonlight.
She reached out and took it, holding it tightly in her hand, and curled up in the quilt, but her consciousness was entangled by Wei Zhuolan's hideous face during the day. Amidst his roar of "Wait and see how you survive", she fell into darkness.
A faint smell of tobacco drifted into her dream. Qin Ying saw herself standing in a department store. Fu Hanzhou pointed at the skirts on the shelf, with a familiar smirk on his face:
"Try this one? It will definitely look good on you."
She reached for the hanger, but her hand felt wet.
When he lowered his head, the floral fabric turned into a blood-soaked bandage, and Fu Hanzhou's figure swayed in the smoke.
“Don’t go over there!”
Qin Ying wanted to shout, but her voice was lost in the sound of the explosion.
The two-kilometer minefield was like a huge mouth, and Fu Hanzhou's camouflage uniform was fluttering in the air waves.
He turned his head to look in her direction, his Adam's apple moved as if to say "wait for me", but was suddenly engulfed by flames.
Qin Ying stumbled forward, and what she stepped on was not the ground, but a lot of broken flesh and blood. She heard her own heartbreaking cry:
"Fu Hanzhou!"
Qin Ying's back, soaked in cold sweat, hit the headboard and she suddenly opened her eyes.
It started raining outside the window at some point. The sound of raindrops hitting the glass, mixed with her pounding heartbeat, was particularly harsh in the empty room.
She trembled as she reached for the bedside lamp. In the warm yellow light, the bullet shell lay quietly, and the man who would tease her in a subtle way and whose heart and eyes were filled with her was now disappearing in the darkness of her dream.
Qin Ying gasped for breath, her trembling fingertips tightly grasping the bed sheet, as if it were a life-saving straw.
His eyes wandered around the room in panic until they saw the photo of Fu Hanzhou in a neat military uniform on the wall, and his tense nerves relaxed slightly.
"This can't be true, it can't be true, dreams are always the opposite..."
Her voice was trembling, and she kept murmuring with an almost stubborn self-comfort, as if trying to dispel the fear surging in her heart.
Tears rolled down her face uncontrollably. She raised her hand and wiped it carelessly, trying to calm herself with her cool palm.
"He's so powerful, how could something happen to him..."
The palpitations brought by the dream lingered for a long time. Qin Ying endured the long night with her eyes open. The moonlight outside the window was gradually replaced by fish belly white, and then dyed into warm orange by the rising sun.
The passionate wake-up call was sounded on time by the radio in the military compound.
She stood up mechanically and glanced at the photo of Fu Hanzhou on the wall. The man in the photo had a smile on his lips, but it could not dispel the haze in her heart.
While washing up, the stinging sensation of the cold water splashing on her face did not wake her up at all. The mirror reflected the dark circles under her eyes.
Xu Jinshu was serving breakfast to the table. He caught a glimpse of her pale face and asked with concern:
"Yingying, didn't you get enough rest?"
Qin Ying forced a smile and shook his head.
Fu Hanting ran down from upstairs, holding the program of the performance in her hand, and said excitedly:
"Sister-in-law, your show today must be the most exciting!"
Qin Ying responded vaguely twice, took the breakfast handed to her by Xu Jinshu, but had no taste for it.
At Fu Hanting's urging, she put the violin on her shoulder when the strings suddenly made a soft sound, which startled her whole body.
As she walked out of the house, the sunlight made her squint her eyes, and the noise coming from the auditorium in the distance was like the call of fate, urging her towards the unknown waves.
Along the way, Fu Hanting chattered away, but Qin Ying's thoughts drifted far away. It was not until the door of the military district auditorium appeared in front of her that she woke up in a daze.
Until the performance began, Qin Ying was not in a good condition.
The military district performance was held in the morning. Standing beside the side curtain of the military district auditorium, listening to the applause from the audience, my fingertips tightly gripped the carved body of the violin.
The heat from the spotlight hit her face, but it couldn't warm her cold fingertips. She recalled the scene in her dream last night where Fu Hanzhou was engulfed in gunpowder smoke, and also Wei Zhuolan's words before he left yesterday, "Tomorrow's military district performance, you will be taken away for investigation as soon as you step off the stage." These words echoed in her ears like a curse.
The moment the announcement sounded, the tungsten filament lights on the ceiling of the auditorium suddenly flickered.
Qin Ying staggered up the stairs, and the bow scraped against the strings, making a harsh noise.
There was a slight commotion from the audience. She stared at the darkness of the auditorium and vaguely saw Qin Qinghua's twisted grin, Wei Zhuolan's threat, and Fu Hanzhou's bloody smile.
