After hanging up the walkie-talkie, he looked at Section Chief Wang with a half-smile:
"Before the comrades from the Operations Department arrive, please do not act rashly."
He turned to look at the nurse standing beside him:
"Go call guard Lian Xiaocheng over and strengthen the security of the intensive care unit."
The voice was not loud, but it carried unquestionable majesty.
"Comrade Qin Ying is an important member of this rescue operation. If you dare to take her away without permission, you will be treated as obstructing military affairs."
Qin Ying looked at the white knuckles of his hands gripping the intercom, and suddenly remembered his daily painful practice of getting out of bed in the ward - it turned out that those bandages soaked in sweat were the confidence he had accumulated for today.
Section Chief Wang came with an order, but now, seeing Fu Hanzhou's tough attitude, he looked a little embarrassed:
"Captain Fu, we are also following the rules!"
"According to the rules?"
When Fu Hanzhou turned around, the look under the brim of his military cap made the investigators take a half step back.
"Wait until you learn to entrust your lives to your teammates on the battlefield, then come and discuss the process with me."
The atmosphere was a little stiff, but Wei Zhuolan suddenly spoke, his eyes staring at Section Chief Wang like a poisonous snake.
"The Propaganda Department is talking about the last military parade. Commander Fu wants to give her the 'Military-Civilian Cooperation Medal'. Are you going against the headquarters?"
With each word he spoke, his voice grew louder.
Section Chief Wang's pen smeared ink on the paper. He looked at Fu Hanzhou's blood-stained bandage, then at Wei Zhuolan's half-smile, and finally gritted his teeth and closed the notebook.
"That's all for today, but the investigation won't end!"
He pushed up his glasses and poked the word "spy" with his pen:
"Comrade Qin Ying, this is definitely not a misunderstanding."
After saying that, he turned around and left with his men.
Wei Zhuolan looked at Section Chief Wang's receding back, and his fingers hanging by his side suddenly clenched, and the watch on his wrist flashed a dazzling cold light in the sunlight.
He turned to look at Qin Ying, a faint smile on his lips - the smile did not reach his eyes, but instead caused a scarlet fire to glow deep in his pupils.
"Hanting is still waiting for you."
Fu Hanzhou hugged Qin Ying tightly, his tone full of the composure of a winner.
Wei Zhuolan's eyes swept over Qin Ying's waist which was hugged by Fu Hanzhou, and his Adam's apple rolled violently.
When he turned to Fu Hanting, his expression instantly changed to gentleness:
"Let's go, don't let your brother get tired."
When he passed by Qin Ying, he suddenly stopped and said in a low voice:
"Comrade Qin Ying's hands shouldn't just be used for washing dishes."
Warm breath brushed past her ear, but at the moment Fu Hanting looked up in confusion, he continued forward as if nothing had happened.
Fu Hanting trotted to catch up:
"Teacher Wei, what did you just say to Section Chief Wang?"
Wei Zhuolan looked down at her, but his eyes passed over her head and stared at Qin Ying's back.
He patted Fu Hanting's hand gently, his voice frighteningly calm:
"Nothing, just a reminder to some people...don't touch things you shouldn't touch."
When he turned around, the hem of his Mao suit brushed against the metal railings in the corridor, making a harsh scraping sound - just like the string in his heart that was about to break.
The footsteps gradually faded away, and they were the only two left in the corridor. Fu Hanzhou's body suddenly fell heavily onto Qin Ying's shoulder.
Qin Ying wrapped her arms around his trembling waist and felt something wet and sticky.
His blood-stained bandages almost soaked through his uniform, and his hot breath sprayed on the side of her neck:
"Help me... back to the ward."
She looked at Fu Hanzhou's pale face, and thought of Wei Zhuolan's words before he left, and a ripple appeared in her heart.
The afternoon incandescent light shone on the bed sheets, stretching the shadows of the two people into slender knife shapes. Fu Hanzhou's blood-stained bandage glowed with the cold color of a soldier in the light and shadow.
Back in the ward, Qin Ying carefully helped him lie down. When her fingertips touched his burning forehead, her heart suddenly tightened.
"don’t worry."
Fu Hanzhou forced a weak smile and wanted to raise his hand to touch her face, but he had no strength left.
Just now he had forced himself to come out and fight against the people from the Security Department, and acted as if nothing had happened in front of them.
"How could you be so stupid!"
Qin Ying's eyes were red. She gently held his hand and placed it on her cheek.
"I'm just afraid that if I'm a second late, you'll be taken away by them!"
Fu Hanzhou pulled the corners of his mouth weakly, trying to smile, but frowned slightly because of the wound.
"You have to take good care of your injuries. With you around, I'm not afraid of anything."
Qin Ying's tears fell and landed on his hands.
He reached out and held Qin Ying's hand, pressing it tightly against his chest, feeling the warm and strong heartbeat.
Qin Ying brought some hot water, carefully wiped his body, and changed his bloody clothes.
Fu Hanzhou looked at her busy figure, his heart filled with emotion and peace of mind.
With her company, he felt as if he had the courage to fight everything.
Because the security department came at noon, the news spread throughout the hospital.
When Qin Ying passed by the nurses' station while washing dishes in the afternoon, she heard them whispering in low voices:
"I heard she can brainwash people, otherwise why would Captain Fu risk his life to protect her..."
"Of course not! He's so young and can actually perform such a complicated surgery. Captain Fu is your lifesaver, so we must protect him..."
"But he doesn't look like he can perform surgery..."
"That's right, otherwise the security department would be alerted..."
Qin Ying turned her head and glanced at them. The nurses who were whispering to each other suddenly shut up and started pretending to be busy.
At night, she tossed and turned in bed, still feeling frightened as she recalled everything that had happened during the day.
Moonlight streamed in through the window, illuminating the "Compilation of Military District Regulations" on the windowsill.
