Chapter 252 Spear and Shield
The assassin, who had just climbed down the stairs, was ambushed by Cheng Zheng, who was dragging a rifle.
The two sides remained deadlocked.
The assassin's gaze shifted slightly downwards, and when he saw Cheng Zheng's hand on the trigger, he immediately rolled to the side and hid behind the wall.
A series of gunshots rang out simultaneously.
...
"What happened?"
As the sound of the bomb exploding and the vibrations of the collapsing bricks reached the ears of the people who had entered the basement, the noblewoman suddenly turned around and looked towards the exit.
The group instinctively protected their heads and steadied themselves, then hid in a corner.
Because Huo Fenglin was at the front, he had already moved to the innermost part of the basement.
Taking advantage of the fact that the people behind him were focused on the unexpected explosion, he quickly turned on the miniature recorder hidden inside his suit and threw it under the sofa.
Shortly after the explosion subsided, before the group had even recovered from the sudden turn of events, the communicator on the waist of the noblewoman's confidante vibrated and then suddenly fell silent.
“Strange,” the confidant said, opening the communicator’s inbox. “It was sent by one of our informants in the shadows, but how come the email…”
Unable to view?
The lady glanced at the communicator's lost signal notification, then abruptly turned to look at Huo Fenglin, who was standing at the far end of the basement.
Huo Fenglin smiled and slowly stood up. "After all, this concerns the patriarch's orders, so it's best not to let unimportant people find out where we are."
The lady's mind raced, quickly connecting everything together.
The armed men who followed him into the basement immediately rushed toward the door.
But it was too late.
The doorway was completely blocked by collapsed bricks and stones.
Upon receiving a report from her scouts, the noblewoman straightened up, her expression chillingly cold. "You want to trap us here?"
"Aunt, what are you saying?" Huo Fenglin maintained his calm and composed demeanor, seemingly unfazed by the fact that he too was trapped in the basement.
"Click!"
The noblewoman snatched the Bernelli shotgun from her subordinate, deftly released the safety, cocked the gun, and aimed it at Huo Fenglin.
"You don't really think your plan is brilliant, do you?" she said coldly, her finger already on the trigger. "Who's waiting for you outside?"
How many people are there?
"I advise you to cooperate obediently, and I might spare your body in an intact form out of consideration for our blood relation."
"Otherwise, even a god couldn't save you from under a 12-caliber shot."
Huo Fenglin showed no sign of panic. Instead of surrendering as the noblewoman had threatened, he calmly raised his leg and approached the noblewoman's gun barrel.
Why should I tell you?
Everyone's attention was focused on Huo Fenglin's audacious actions, and no one noticed that the recording device he had hidden under the sofa was quietly running.
Huo Fenglin looked at "his" dear aunt and said, each word ringing out firmly, "Why should I cooperate with you executioners?!"
The noblewoman's thoughts were disrupted by his inexplicable accusations.
"Are you changing the subject to buy yourself time?" She was fixated on the young man opposite her, and all her actions were aimed at creating an opportunity for her to escape and turn the tables.
Huo Fenglin chuckled, but his words were cryptic and left everyone bewildered: "I have already reported everything you have done to the board of directors."
"Don't think you can force me to submit by labeling me as an illegitimate child or threatening the deaths of my family members..."
"You people are not worthy to covet the position of head of the family."
"I'm not worthy either."
Before the noblewoman could even ponder the meaning behind Huo Fenglin's nonsensical ramblings, she saw the man draw his gun.
Having dealt with both the legitimate and criminal worlds for many years, the noblewoman sensed the impending counterattack from the other side, and her body's defense mechanism quickly bypassed her brain, prompting her to pull the trigger.
"Bang!!!"
The shotgun's immense recoil sent Huo Fenglin flying back several steps.
The man fell heavily onto the sofa armrest, leaving deep red streaks of blood in his wake. A large hole pierced his chest, and he slumped against the sofa leg.
Those pupils, fixed on the noblewoman still holding the gun, completely lost focus.
The lady finally realized what she had just done.
But she was not distracted because she had shot her own nephew.
She was pondering what Huo Fenglin was plotting against her with those seemingly random words.
Perhaps she should now regret the years of open and covert struggles with her brother that led to an almost precipitous information gap between them.
Huo Fenglin's uncle, who died outside the village, did not share Huo Fenglin's true background with his elder sister, with whom he had a conflict of interest.
If he had given his older sister even a hint, perhaps she wouldn't have been forced into such a passive situation.
But there are no "what ifs" in the world.
Search him!
The noble lady decided to look for clues from Huo Fenglin.
The henchmen, who were completely obedient to their employer, quickly dragged Huo Fenglin's body to an open space nearby.
But soon... he realized something was wrong.
“Madam…” He swallowed hard, then slowly leaned down to look under the mahogany coffee table.
When he saw that the countdown to the miniature bomb had only 3 seconds left, the subordinate suddenly looked up and shouted at his employer and his companion.
"Find cover!!!"
...
"boom."
A muffled explosion came from underground.
"Underground...basement?!"
The bodyguard, who was clearing bricks and stones at the entrance to the ruins, looked shocked when he felt the shock from the explosion.
"Contact the rescue team immediately!!!"
"Bang."
The red dot flashed above the bodyguard's head for only two seconds before the bullet pierced his skull.
"There's a sniper on the other side!" The remaining bodyguards were on high alert and immediately looked up to find the enemy's coordinates based on the trajectory of the bullet.
But the ruins of that high-rise building, which had lost its outer walls and had half of its floor blown up, were deserted.
Xin Que had already put away her sniper rifle, crouched close to the corner of the wall to avoid the enemy's line of sight, and quietly left.
All the armed personnel present quickly split into two groups: one group went to chase the killer, while the other group assisted in the rescue and cleared the rubble, clearing the passage to the basement.
"Get down!!!"
When the bodyguard caught a glimpse of another grenade being thrown, he shouted, and all his companions who were chasing the assassin immediately lunged forward, covering the back of their heads with their hands and lying prone on the ground.
"boom--"
Cheng Zheng turned around, climbed over the broken wall, and left.
The grenade only killed a few bodyguards who were too close to the blast center.
"Bombs, grenades, snipers..." The surviving militants looked grave. "Such meticulous coordination, just how many of them were there?"
"I'm afraid those two men who were disguised as people sent by the Huo Group were just a decoy."
"Only a gang could do this." His companion, having survived the ordeal, was once again grateful that they had been armed from head to toe for this mission.
"Get the bodyguards wearing only bulletproof vests out of here," the armed man's eyes flashed menacingly behind his goggles. "Tell all the brothers wearing heavy bulletproof vests to immediately gather in front of me with their gear!!!"
"Also, contact the superiors for support to surround the entire ruins. I want to make sure they can't escape!"
