Chapter 33 Rainy Night
"What happened?" Upon hearing that something had happened in the teaching building, Director Wu's voice immediately became anxious. "Speak clearly!"
Teaching assistant Wang stood there blankly, holding his phone.
At the entrance of the building not far away, a man in an instructor's uniform and wearing a mask stood facing him from afar.
Shining a flashlight over it, you could still see the blood on the man's uniform, which had oxidized and changed color.
“Li…Li…” His hand holding the flashlight trembled more and more.
"Li what???" Director Wu didn't understand what he was stammering about.
The man made a gesture to Assistant Instructor Wang, who was frozen in place due to panic, and then ran away.
The flashlight rolled to the ground.
Teaching assistant Wang could no longer hold on; his legs gave way, and he collapsed heavily to the ground.
Although the flashlight beam didn't illuminate the person clearly, it was none other than Assistant Instructor Li, who had gone missing in the fire.
His sinister gaze and the gesture of cutting his own neck with a knife were reminders to himself.
Teaching Assistant Wang saw him.
The next one to die is Assistant Instructor Wang.
Several instructors, their faces filled with panic, shoved each other out of the women's restroom. Seeing Assistant Instructor Wang slumped on the ground, looking utterly disoriented, they couldn't help but yell, "Contact the leadership, you idiot! What are you doing sitting there like a fool?!"
“Li…” Assistant Wang pointed with trembling hands to the pitch-black stairwell entrance, “Arrest him!!! Arrest that guy surnamed Li!!!”
The instructors were taken aback.
“He killed them all,” Assistant Instructor Wang said, his voice incoherent yet frantic. “If we catch him, everything will be fine!!!”
"Which one surnamed Li?" the instructor asked, completely bewildered. "The missing teaching assistant Li?"
Director Wu and his team rushed over.
"Two more have died," he seemed to have gotten used to the constant deaths in the teaching building, his face showing only a moment of shock before quickly regaining its composure. "And they were female teachers..."
“I saw it,” Assistant Teacher Wang finally seemed a bit more composed. He pointed to the stairwell where the man had fled, “Assistant Teacher Li ran out from here!!!”
"He killed the two female teachers in the restroom, then ran down the hallway!!!"
"Boom—"
Perhaps to emphasize the tense and panicked atmosphere, a thunderclap suddenly rang out in the night sky, briefly illuminating the scene in the corridor.
Then came the pattering of raindrops.
The group of people in the hallway saw each other's pale faces and inexplicably shivered.
The rain is getting heavier.
"It's a typhoon day," Director Wu said, trying to reassure the instructors. "What's there to be afraid of?"
"The rainy season is almost here, isn't it normal for it to rain and thunder?"
The instructor awkwardly replied, "Normal, normal."
The rain was getting heavier.
Soon, the rain was pouring down like a torrential downpour, making it difficult to drive or walk.
“Perfect,” Director Wu said, quickly assigning tasks after calming down. “While the mountain roads are impassable due to the heavy rain, you can go and dispose of those two dead bodies.”
"Leave someone to take the electrician to the infirmary, don't let him faint here."
Even if the instructors were unwilling, they were essentially the puppeteers of these college leaders and couldn't simply quit.
They put on raincoats and gloves, and just like they had done countless times before when dragging away female trainees who had encountered all sorts of accidents, they quickly packed the two female corpses from the toilet into suitcases.
Teaching assistant Wang was unwilling to stay behind to clean up, nor was he willing to go with them to dispose of the body outside the college.
He would rather stay by Director Wu's side and be a quail.
Director Wu glared at him, "Go down the mountain with them and leave the academy to help!"
Teaching assistant Wang's lips moved, but in the end he said nothing, and went to put on his raincoat while holding back his anger.
Director Wu also had his own agenda.
Assistant Teacher Wang was the only one who saw Assistant Teacher Li. What if Assistant Teacher Li comes back seeking revenge...?
It's too dangerous to keep Xiao Wang around.
...
“Mr. Luo,” Cheng Zheng said, seeing him into the hotel lobby and putting away his umbrella, “this rain came too suddenly today.”
Luo Huayi glanced at the torrential rain outside the floor-to-ceiling windows. The rain was so heavy, like water being poured, that it was impossible to see anything.
Even with umbrellas, Luo Huayi and Cheng Zheng inevitably got mostly soaked.
Using an umbrella in this weather isn't very useful.
"With such heavy rain, will we still be able to get back to the city tomorrow as planned...?"
Cheng Zheng, carrying a dripping umbrella, frowned, more concerned about the two's return journey.
Luo Huayi hadn't heard that faint voice in her ear for a long time.
He had almost forgotten the woman who had briefly entered his life.
Everything has been going well lately; the company's business volume is steadily increasing, and competitors haven't made any major moves.
After severing ties with Zhou Zichuan, he no longer needed to maintain those dispensable drinking buddies.
Lost in thought in the hall for what seemed like an eternity, Luo Huayi suddenly realized that she was pondering some random thoughts again.
“It’s alright,” he said, whether to Cheng Zheng or himself. “The branch office is just starting out, so we can stay here for a couple more days.”
"Let's wait until the rain stops before we talk about it."
"With such heavy rain, I don't know how long it will last before the sun shines."
Just as Cheng Zheng was about to speak, he saw Luo Huayi turn around and walk towards the passenger elevator.
The two, still damp from the sweat, quickly left the hall.
...
Xin Que only left the blind spot of the surveillance camera next to the guardhouse after the van carrying two suitcases drove out of the college.
Tonight is destined to be sleepless.
Director Wu had already led people to clean up the bloodstains in the toilet stalls, and under the pretext of heavy rain, he emptied the teaching building, allowing all students to finish their tutoring early and return to their dormitories to rest.
“Vice Dean Zhang,” Director Wu never expected things to turn out this way, “two more female teachers have died. One was your girlfriend… cough cough, lecturer Qingyun, and the other was a homeroom teacher surnamed Tan.”
"Xiao Wang witnessed Assistant Instructor Li fleeing after committing the murder... It can be confirmed that Assistant Instructor Li was the one who did it."
"Nine lives have already been lost..."
Director Wu is now feeling quite uneasy.
News of the torrential rain blocking the mountain roads has been urgently released, and the staff who stayed on campus to work are as if they are trapped in the college.
Especially now that there's a serial killer in the academy, hiding somewhere, and we don't know if he'll run away or continue killing.
Director Wu dared not gamble with his own life.
The main problem is that the man surnamed Li committed murders without any rhyme or reason.
The four people who died at the bottom of the sharp bend in the mountain road were later thoroughly investigated, and it was discovered that Assistant Instructor Li did not know them at all.
The two instructors who burned to death were close to him, and the group even frequently went to visit prostitutes together.
The two female teachers who died in the toilet at night... People who knew them all said that Assistant Li had no interaction with these two female teachers.
Among the nine people who died, there were strangers and acquaintances.
It seems he kills people entirely based on his mood.
Director Wu finally realized he was afraid.
If the other party had a clear target, he could still think of a countermeasure, but the other party's demeanor was clearly like that of a madman, committing a crime of passion.
You can defend yourself against targeted conspiracies, but you can't defend yourself against someone who just doesn't like you and inexplicably stabs you in the back.
They died without ever knowing what they had done to offend him.
