Chapter 44 You are my pride
Bruce felt a familiar warmth surge through his body. His eyes darkened and he stared at the little girl beside his legs. He turned her around and hid her behind him without making a sound.
Jason got Bruce's move and took a step forward to block the gap tightly.
Tim looked at the two men and an idea suddenly occurred to him.
"It's Xiaorong..."
He immediately shut up and swallowed the words he had not finished. The dock was not a suitable place to talk. If anyone noticed anything unusual, they would definitely suspect the girl.
Damian also understood. He looked at the child who was shorter than him with warm eyes and suddenly realized.
No wonder my father wanted to adopt Rong Huan, it turns out she is not an ordinary person either.
Jason grabbed Rong Huan before Bruce and was about to leave, but was blocked by Dick, who smiled brightly at his brother.
"Little Wing, let's go back to the manor tonight! Ah Fu has prepared dinner for us."
Jason rolled his eyes without any manner and retorted,
"You are the ones waiting, not me. I said I would take her away."
Dick and Tim exchanged glances, and they used the transfer technique again, each carrying one of Jason as they walked out.
Jason really didn't want to go back this time. The old Bat would definitely ask him questions again, and Damian was going to pester him for training again tonight.
He is busy enough managing his subordinates every day, and he still wants to have a good sleep!
Bruce did not follow the routine and directly asked Rong Huan who was standing,
"Xiao Rong, can you come back to the manor tonight? Bring Jason back with you so we can have a family dinner."
Rong Huan had never experienced a family dinner, but it sounded very heartwarming. She was very excited and immediately started to act coquettishly towards Jason.
"Jason, Jason, can we go home and have a family dinner? I've never had a family dinner before!"
Jason wanted to say that a family dinner is just about eating together, but when he glanced at Rong Huan's excited expression, he didn't say it. He sighed, shook off Dick and Tim's hands, snorted, and left, leaving behind a cold back.
Rong Huan knew Jason agreed, and happily turned to her father and said,
"Daddy, let's go home."
Bruce held the little girl's hand and walked with her, and the car quickly drove towards the manor.
However, what no one noticed was that a figure flashed by behind a container not far away.
Rumlow identified the direction and walked into the darkness. Earl Stark would definitely be angry for losing so many experimental subjects tonight, but he would bring good news to his boss, good news that was enough to extinguish the earl's anger.
Alfu had been waiting for a long time, and Alfred and Titus were also waiting for the young master at the door.
Seeing Jason get off the car, Ah Fu's smile became even bigger, and he urged everyone to change clothes and go downstairs for dinner.
Rong Huan's skirt was stained with dust at the dock, and the pink color became foggy. She stumbled through the shower by herself, and put on her pajamas which were placed on the bed.
It happened that Dick also came downstairs after taking a shower. He saw the little girl in cow pajamas, touched her head, and slowly led her downstairs.
Damian and Jason had already sat down on their chairs. As the second and fifth generation Robin, they could never get along harmoniously, and they started arguing after a while.
Jason: "Damian you don't have homework today? Oh yeah, I forgot, you're in the fourth grade now."
Damian was angry: "Stupid Todd, shut up. Don't think I don't know that you are often punished by your tutor."
Jason sneered, "I got full marks in every subject, and I won't be called in by my parents just because I joke with my classmates. The old bat is so embarrassed."
Damian Damian's forehead was bulging with veins. "Oh, aren't they stupid? They actually want me to explain the questions? I already knew the knowledge for fourth graders when I was born."
Jason continued in a sarcastic tone: "You'd better be considerate of your classmates, otherwise you might get scolded by your teacher again tomorrow."
Damian taunted, "Stop meddling in other people's business. Are you 200 pounds for nothing? Your brain is squeezed out!"
Dick carried Rong Huan to a chair, and after sitting down, he interrupted his brothers' argument.
"Stop arguing, aren't you tired?"
Jason and Damian showed unprecedented tacit understanding and glared at Dick at the same time.
"Shut up, Dickie Bird, did you tell him about the talkback/punishment from the tutor?!"
Dick shut up guiltily, chuckled and changed the subject.
"Xiao Rong, eat this, it's delicious."
Rong Huan was "watching" the excitement when she realized that her good brother was using her as a shield. She added with a smile,
"I know all these things. Brother Dick told me yesterday when we were chatting. When Damian first met Jason when he was a kid, he asked him if he was Daddy's brother. When Jason first came to the manor, he called Dick brother..."
Dick had cold sweat dripping down his forehead. He could already feel the two men beside him staring at him with murderous eyes.
Dick Grayson looked at Rong Huan who was smiling harmlessly across from him and didn't understand how such a good child could have turned into a sesame-filled glutinous rice ball.
Tim just came downstairs, and it was rare that he didn't have a life-saving device in his hand. Today, he didn't feel sleepy at all, and even had endless energy. He didn't feel tired even after finishing the documents of the Wayne Group in the room.
He greeted the four people in a good mood, and saw Dick looking at him eagerly, as if he was some kind of life-saving medicine.
To Dick, Tim was there to save his life. He quickly stood up and pushed Tim to his place.
"Tim, my good brother, you sit here, this is a good seat."
Tim was almost dragged here by Dick, and he immediately realized that this guy must have caused trouble and wanted him to be blamed.
He suddenly stepped aside and said respectfully,
"No need, brother, just sit here."
Rong Huan couldn't help laughing out loud. Bruce didn't lie to her. The family gathering was really fun.
Bruce was late, and although the atmosphere was a bit strange, the dinner ended smoothly.
Jason was planning to leave after dinner, but Bruce actually asked him to stay.
"Jason, stay. I... need you. There will be no replacement for Jason Todd."
Jason: ...
In fact, Jason Todd always thought that he was just an insignificant son to Bruce, so every time he saw him, he would subconsciously sneer at him to hide his bleeding heart.
It's easy to agree, but Jason doesn't think so. He hates Bruce's disapproving expression.
Every time he wanted to ask Bruce, did I disappoint you that much?!
But he never asked this question before, and his remaining self-esteem made him act as if he didn't care.
Bruce looked at Jason intently. Mistakes should be corrected, and those things that have never been said or suppressed in the heart are now made public.
Jason didn't dare to look Bruce in the eye. He felt timid when he heard the words he was expecting. He turned around calmly and said coldly,
"I understand. I'll go upstairs first."
Then he limped up the stairs and nearly fell.
The living room was quiet. Dick and the others were all immersed in shock, "Bruce actually said such a thing?" Only Rong Huan was happy.
She lay on the sofa, smiling with all eight teeth showing.
"Daddy, you are awesome! Jason must be touched!"
Bruce gently stroked the child's slightly frizzy head.
"Thank you, baby, you taught me a lot."
Rong Huan is indeed a little angel, Bruce thought.
Being a father is not difficult, but he still has a lot to learn to be a good father. Love should be felt by the other party. Sometimes, as long as you take the first step, the rest does not seem so far away.
He repeated this in his mind as he looked at the staircase where Jason disappeared.
Jason, you are my pride, the pride of Batman...
