I thought you would like it when I bought it.

Xie Zhijin hadn't had such a happy birthday in a long time. Someone brought him a custom-made cake and cooked longevity noodles. Xie Zhijin no longer felt lonely; a feeling called love welled up in his heart.

He heard Jiang Jingshu say to him, "Happy birthday." Thinking of this, Xie Zhijin's lips unconsciously curled up. Since coming to Xie Wendong's house, only the first birthday was happy. After that, his birthdays were either ignored or he was beaten and kicked.

No one stood in front of him and smiled as they said "Happy Birthday."

No one ever cooked longevity noodles for him.

Xie Zhijin hadn't expected Jiang Jingshu to know his birthday, so when he received her message at midnight, his heart skipped a beat.

Originally, it was Xie Zhijin's selfish wish to see her on his birthday and take her to the aquarium. He also greedily thought that she would spend a day of his birthday with him.

Little did anyone know that this was the reason the girl came to be.

Xie Zhijin sat at the table, and he thought of Jiang Jingshu, who looked pained at the aquarium, and the doctor who asked her if she had ever drowned. Xie Zhijin couldn't help but feel a little scared.

Before he could even think, he had already dialed Su Xiaoyue's number.

Su Xiaoyue was playfully fighting with Wen Jinyan, who had just taken away the chicken wings that Su Xiaoyue had kept for several days, and Su Xiaoyue was arguing with him.

The two were neighbors, and their parents were good friends, so they often ate together.

"Wen Jinyan, give me back my chicken wings!" Su Xiaoyue was staring at Wen Jinyan when the phone rang.

Su Xiaoyue picked up her phone, "Xie Zhijin?"

Wen Jinyan was a little curious, "Doesn't he like Jiang Jingshu? Why is he calling you?"

The voice sounded a bit sour.

Su Xiaoyue rolled her eyes at Wen Jinyan, then answered Xie Zhijin's call.

"Hello."

"Hello, I want to ask you about Jiang Jingshu." Xie Zhijin was a little flustered when the call was suddenly connected, and he quickly said.

"Drowning? That shouldn't be the case." Su Xiaoyue was puzzled. "Jiang Jiang can swim, how could she drown?"

"Jiang Jingshu can swim?" Xie Zhijin frowned.

“Yes,” Su Xiaoyue replied. “Why are you suddenly asking this? What happened to Jiang Jiang? Did she have a swimming accident?” Su Xiaoyue became more and more anxious as she spoke, wishing she could rush to City A right now to see how Jiang Jingshu was doing.

"No, no, don't worry." Xie Zhijin quickly said when he heard Su Xiaoyue's voice getting more and more excited.

"Then why did you suddenly ask that?" Su Xiaoyue breathed a sigh of relief.

"Because we went to the aquarium together, and she seemed really afraid of water, so I wanted to ask you about it." To avoid worrying Su Xiaoyue, Xie Zhijin quickly explained.

"It's good that you're not hurt. You scared me to death. I thought something had happened to Jiang Jiang." Su Xiaoyue breathed a sigh of relief. "But Jiang Jiang shouldn't be afraid of water. I remember she likes the sea."

Seeing that Su Xiaoyue was unaware, Xie Zhijin had no choice but to hang up the phone.

As they chatted and laughed, the chicken wings Wen Jinyan had just ordered arrived, and he placed them in front of Su Xiaoyue.

"Wen Jinyan! You bought more!" Su Xiaoyue was delighted when she saw the chicken wings in front of her. "Then I forgive you for stealing my chicken wings."

Wen Jinyan looked at her with a smile, "What does Xie Zhijin want by calling?"

“He asked me if Jiang Jiang had ever drowned,” Su Xiaoyue answered while eating. “But it’s strange, how could Jiang Jiang be afraid of water? We swam together before, and she said she loved water and felt free in it.”

Wen Jinyan smiled as she watched her eat a chicken wing and chimed in, "Yeah, that is indeed strange."

“Wen Jinyan, I’ve actually thought Jiang Jiang was strange for a long time.” Su Xiaoyue stopped eating her chicken wings and leaned closer to Wen Jinyan with a mysterious look. “Ever since she fainted at school and came home, she’s been like a completely different person.”

"What do you mean?" Wen Jinyan looked at her.

“I don’t know how to explain it, but she’s different from before. She doesn’t seem very warm towards me anymore, and suddenly there’s a sense of distance between us.” Su Xiaoyue stared at Wen Jinyan. “Do you understand? It’s like overnight I feel like our relationship has gone from 100 back to square one.”

"So that's why you were in a bad mood during that time," Wen Jinyan said.

Su Xiaoyue nodded, then shook her head. "Yes and no, I don't know how to say it. Besides, I feel that her core is more stable now. When she is bullied, she doesn't just endure it like before, but chooses to protect herself, which makes me very happy."

Although Su Xiaoyue felt that Jiang Jingshu was very different from the Jiang Jingshu in her memory, what remained the same was that no matter what kind of Jiang Jingshu she was, Su Xiaoyue liked her very much because she was Jiang Jingshu, her good friend and best confidante.

Previously, Su Xiaoyue became good friends and besties because she got along best with Jiang Jingshu. But now it's completely different. Now, Su Xiaoyue believes that as long as it's Jiang Jingshu, no matter how her personality changes or what she's like, she will always be her best friend with whom she clicks perfectly.

Even if they have disagreements in the future, it won't change; she will still be Su Xiaoyue's best friend and confidante.

Jiang Jingshu was doing her homework in her dormitory when she suddenly remembered that she had to deliver the gift she had prepared to Xie Zhijin. So, Jiang Jingshu arranged to meet Xie Zhijin the next day.

Xie Zhijin readily agreed. The next day, he woke up very early, took a shower, and dressed himself up from head to toe. When he appeared in front of Jiang Jingshu, she was a little shocked. "Your hair looks so stylish!"

Yes, Xie Zhijin used hairspray.

In case Jiang Jingshu disliked the unpleasant smell of hairspray, he even went out and bought some perfume with a jasmine scent, which Jiang Jingshu really liked.

"Are you wearing perfume?" Jiang Jingshu had obviously smelled it too. "It smells very nice."

Xie Zhijin nodded, then took out the perfume from his backpack and said to Jiang Jingshu, "Give me your hand."

Jiang Jingshu obediently extended her hand, the perfume lingering on her wrist, seemingly carrying a hint of a boy's scholarly scent. "Why do you still carry it with you?"

"So I can take it out and spray it on you when you say it smells good," Xie Zhijin said slowly. "What you want should be given to you immediately."

“Tell me, I can just go back and buy it myself.” Surprised by Xie Zhijin’s words, Jiang Jingshu felt a surge of warmth in her heart.

"If you like it now, it's better to have it now." Xie Zhijin saw that Jiang Jingshu seemed to really like the perfume, and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly. He was glad that he had a brand new one in his backpack. He took it out and handed it to Jiang Jingshu, "I will definitely try my best to fulfill your wish."

"How come you have a new one?" Jiang Jingshu stared blankly at the perfume Xie Zhijin handed her, not taking it immediately.

"I thought you would like it when I bought it," Xie Zhijin said, recalling the scene when he bought the perfume.

When Xie Zhijin learned that Jiang Jingshu wanted to meet him the next day, he searched through his wardrobe but couldn't find any nice clothes, so he immediately went out and bought a set.

The next day, he got up early again to get his hair done, and he styled his hair many times.

Xie Zhijin is handsome with thick hair; he looks absolutely charming with just a little styling.

He sprayed hairspray, but before leaving, he smelled the pungent smell of hairspray. He quickly ran to the perfume store in the mall, hoping to choose a nice perfume to cover up the smell of hairspray.

"Hello sir, may I smell a sample?"

The shop assistant came to Xie Zhijin, who picked up the jasmine-scented perfume and smelled it; it was a very refreshing scent.

"The top notes of this perfume are bergamot, the middle notes are jasmine, and the base notes are a blend of sandalwood and white musk, which makes people want to get closer," the salesperson explained.

"You can't help but want to get closer?" Xie Zhijin repeated the shop assistant's words.

"Yes, sir, you're dressed so neatly and cleanly, you must be going on a date, right? Then you absolutely must have this perfume, the scent is truly captivating."

Xie Zhijin's face had already turned bright red upon hearing the word "date." He nodded and bought two bottles.

"Would girls like this flavor?" Xie Zhijin asked, blushing.

"Yes, most girls like this flavor, and I believe your girlfriend won't dislike it either."

"She's not my girlfriend," Xie Zhijin stammered. "Then I'll buy two bottles, thank you."

The shop assistant smiled at Xie Zhijin, "This gift might earn you some points with her. Hopefully, next time you come, you'll be holding your girlfriend's hand."

Xie Zhijin's thoughts drifted back. He couldn't help but feel fortunate that he had bought two, so that he could give them to her immediately after she said "I like them."

The shop assistant was right; after she sprayed that perfume, Jiang Jingshu did indeed move closer to him.

Jiang Jingshu took it. "Xie Zhijin, did they praise you, saying you're someone who knows how to create surprises?"

Xie Zhijin thought back carefully and realized that in his seventeen years of life, the memories of being praised were still from his childhood.

When he turned sixteen, a girl appeared in his life and told him over and over again that he was a very good and outstanding person, and that he was also someone who knew how to create surprises.

Xie Zhijin believes that Jiang Jingshu is mistaken. He is not someone who knows how to create surprises, and these qualities are only applicable to people Xie Zhijin likes.

He was willing to do a lot of things simply because this person was Jiang Jingshu.

Seeing Xie Zhijin remain silent, Jiang Jingshu didn't ask any further questions, but simply changed the subject, "Xie Zhijin, when are your exams?"

“May 13th,” Xie Zhijin replied.

"I'll be going back after the competition. I wish you all the best." Jiang Jingshu looked silently at the perfume in her hand. Although she was very reluctant to part with it, she knew that she would have to leave sooner or later, and that the only way out for her and Xie Zhijin was to separate.

It's enough that I've given her so many happy memories.

"You're talking strangely. I'll come see you." Xie Zhijin couldn't help but laugh as he looked at the myriad of expressions on Jiang Jingshu's face. "What, can't I come to the school to find you, Jiang Jingshu?"

"No, don't come to see me." Jiang Jingshu waved her hand. "Xie Zhijin, you consider me a good friend, right?"

Xie Zhijin nodded. "Don't worry, I won't go." As he spoke, he looked at Jiang Jingshu's somewhat dejected expression and added, "We're good friends. If you don't want me to come, then I won't go."

Upon receiving Xie Zhijin's answer, Jiang Jingshu breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time felt a sense of emptiness inside.

Even though she was the one pushing him away, why was she so conflicted?
