Chapter 37 Catching Wild Ducks! Collecting Wild Duck Eggs

The two of them continued working while chatting about tomorrow.

I didn't stop working until 10 o'clock, and then I got ready to pack up and rest. I'm going to the reed marshes tomorrow!

The reed marshes are quite far from home, so the two of them don't plan to come back to stay tomorrow night!

They slept soundly without any dreams, and the two got up early the next morning.

Lu Chuan went to the back to feed the chickens and ducks, and also changed the water for the next two days. He just needed enough for them to drink.

Add more chicken and duck feed. Don't let them go hungry.

After that, I dug up some earthworms and put them in the fish basket as bait.

Xu Han, on the other hand, was preparing the things she would need to bring for spending the night away from home.

Bring everything you might need: blankets, kettles, pots and pans! Just like going camping!

And it's late April now, the weather is perfect! This trip will be a vacation! Relax and unwind!

After getting ready, the two left home, deciding not to fish near their house this time.

Lu Chuan told me that there is a big river over the reed marshes, and it would be a good place to fish there. The reed marshes are also a great place to set your fishing nets!

The two of them walked and stopped along the way. Xu Han had never walked such a long distance before and was really exhausted. If it weren't for Xu Han's sake, Lu Chuan would probably have arrived long ago at his speed.

We finally arrived at our destination after lunch.

The two walked and stopped frequently, eating and drinking as they went. Although they didn't have a proper lunch, they weren't hungry either, so they didn't eat lunch.

Upon arriving at the reed marshes, Xu Han was extremely excited, genuinely believing that she would see many ducks and duck eggs!

But after searching all around, I couldn't find a single duck...

"Have you ever seen such a silly duck? Standing in the most conspicuous spot, waiting for someone to hunt it!"

Xu Han realized what was happening, but still stubbornly replied, "That's not necessarily true!"

Lu Chuan looked at her amusedly. "Let's go! I'll take you to find it!"

After saying that, he took the lead and walked forward. Lu Chuan led Xu Han into the reeds, turning here and there. Before long, Xu Han lost her way.

I can't tell east from west anymore, so I'll just stop trying. Lu Chuan is still here! I won't get lost!

Finally, we arrived at a place with a relatively wide view, and we could see several wild ducks flying away in fright from afar!

There were also many duck eggs left on the ground.

"When you collect duck eggs here, don't collect them all. Leave some for them! Otherwise, they might stop building their nests here!" Lu Chuan said to Xu Han.

“Okay, I know. Go catch the ducks! Blackie can keep me company!” Xu Han immediately took out a bamboo basket and started picking them up, without even looking at Lu Chuan!

Lu Chuan suddenly felt that he was less than a duck egg in Xu Han's eyes! He was deeply hurt. He resolved to catch more wild ducks to prove his abilities.

"Don't go too far, stay in this area!" Lu Chuan still reminded him with concern.

"Understood," Xu Han replied without looking up.

Alright! Lu Chuan gave up! He simply led Black Wind away!

Xu Han was completely engrossed in the activity. The feeling of collecting duck eggs was so exhilarating, just like picking mushrooms – it was addictive!

Back in modern times, Xu Han often saw videos of people picking up eggs at chicken farms, one after another, which made her very envious. Now it was finally her turn.

Each nest contained a dozen or twenty duck eggs, with some having five or six. Xu Han didn't collect them all; she wanted to leave some for the ducks to incubate and reproduce!

As Xu Han was picking them up, she suddenly heard the chirping of a black dot. Looking up, she saw that it was a newly hatched duckling. How cute! Its fluffy appearance made her happy!

If her duck pen at home weren't so small, Xu Han would really want to take them all home and raise them!

Although it was possible to raise them in the stream near the entrance, it wasn't very convenient, so Xu Han reluctantly gave up the idea!

Let's just stick to collecting duck eggs! Duck eggs are fine too!

Xu Han kept picking and picking, unaware that the sun had already set, until Lu Chuan's voice brought her back from her reverie of collecting duck eggs!

"It's getting dark, let's go to the cave first, and come back to collect duck eggs tomorrow!" Lu Chuan said to Xu Han. He was still carrying the wild ducks he had hunted that day, about twenty or so.

“Alright, let’s go!” Xu Han looked at her space and saw that she already had about 10 baskets of wild duck eggs.

Although she was still reluctant to leave, Xu Han knew that it was getting dark and the deep mountains would become dangerous! One shouldn't be too greedy, and besides, she could come back tomorrow!

It's safer to go back into the cave now!

On the way back, we also retrieved the fish baskets we had set at noon. I must say, the haul was quite good.

The five fish baskets yielded a total of one and a half buckets of fish and shrimp, including several large fish weighing around three pounds each!

Maybe no one has ever caught fish here before. They're so naive and have no sense of danger, making them especially easy to catch!

After collecting the fish in the basket, continue setting the fish, and collect them again when you come tomorrow morning.

After walking for about half an hour, the two finally arrived at the cave where Lu Chuan had temporarily stayed before dark!

The cave wasn't very big; it contained some simple stones and earthenware pots, which were probably prepared by Lu Chuan as a temporary resting place during his hunting trip.

Lu Chuan gathered some dry firewood nearby to use for a fire at night!

Xu Han entered the cave, cleaned it up briefly, took out the bed from her spatial storage, and placed it directly inside the cave!

This is so convenient! If Xu Han didn't have this cheat space, how could she have such a comfortable living environment!

But the cave was too small; after putting in a 1.5-meter bed, there wasn't much space left!

Anyway, I don't need to cook today, and I've already stored hot water in my space, so I don't even need to boil it. It doesn't matter if the space is a little small!

The two of them finished their dinner in the cramped space, washed up briefly, and then went to rest!

No need for anyone to keep watch at night; just block the cave entrance, there are two dogs there! They're much more alert than people.

It was still very cold at night. Although the entrance to the cave was blocked, cold winds still blew in from time to time.

The two of them covered themselves with thick quilts and then they didn't feel so cold anymore!

Lu Chuan joked, "This is the most comfortable and warmest cave I've ever stayed in all the times I've stayed there! It's all thanks to Xu Han!"

Xu Han accepted Lu Chuan's flattery without hesitation!

Although they lived in a cave deep in the mountains, Xu Han probably had an inexplicable trust and sense of security in Lu Chuan. Despite occasionally hearing the cries of wild animals, she still fell asleep quickly...

The next day, after breakfast, the two went to the reed marshes again. There were fewer ducks here today than yesterday, probably because Lu Chuan was frightened by hunting yesterday and many of them flew away!
