Chapter 57 Fresh Corn

They were so busy a while ago that Lu Chuan bought both of their shoes in the county town. Whenever they had a spare moment, they were either picking honeysuckle or treating blisters.

There's simply no time to make clothes and shoes for two people; we wear the same few outfits every day. They're all worn out from washing.

There's nothing left to deal with in the space now, and Niu Tou Niu Ti has taken care of everything in his spare time these past two days.

Xu Han then had time to make clothes and shoes for the two of them. Lu Chuan's shoes and clothes wore out very quickly, as they were easily torn from running around in the mountains every day.

Lu Chuan rarely wore the new clothes Xu Han made when hunting in the deep mountains. He usually wore tattered clothes, and he didn't care if they got torn or ripped; he could just patch them up and still wear them.

Even when his shoes were worn out, he would patch them up. Lu Chuan only wore new clothes when he was at home.

Although it may get dirty, at least it won't get scratched.

Today, Xu Han specially took out some coarse linen, intending to make some clothes for Lu Chuan.

Wearing these in the mountains, you won't feel too bad if they get torn. They're much better than cotton cloth!

After taking out the linen and measuring the dimensions, I started cutting. In no time, I had finished a set of clothes.

Both of them wore very simple clothes, without anything fancy, prioritizing comfort!

Xu Han had taken the fabrics she had bought earlier and piled them up in Lu's parents' room. She had been worried that they would be chewed up by rats, so she had kept them in her spatial storage.

Later, after finding out there were no mice in the house, I took it out, which saved it from taking up space.

Currently, the space contains nothing but items that are refreshed daily and items that need to be kept fresh.

After all, the space isn't particularly large, so it's mainly for storing items that need to be kept fresh. We also need to leave some space for transporting things!

Take everything out of the storage space and put it outside to save space for other things.

Fortunately, Mr. and Mrs. Lu's room was big enough to hold all their things. Clothes, bedding, fabrics, furniture, and the like were all there.

It was packed to the brim. There was only enough space to walk around.

After finishing a set of clothes, Xu Han went to rest.

After waking up from my afternoon nap, I first turned over some dried vegetables to dry, and then set off with my basket on my back.

Xu Han wanted to go and see if there was anything else she could pick.

After wandering around all afternoon, I didn't find anything edible! I only picked some wild vegetables to bring back.

Not many ice jelly fruits are ripe yet, let's wait until there are more next time to pick them all together!

There's nothing to eat besides wild vegetables; wild fruits and nuts will have to wait a while longer.

After the sun went down, Xu Han hurried home!

When I passed by a cornfield, I saw that the corn silks had started to turn black, so I peeled one open to take a look. It was just the right size to cook and eat.

Not too old, not too young, it's the perfect time to boil and eat corn, and how could Xu Han, who loves corn, miss it!

Inside the refrigerator, there were only two sweet corns and three sticky corns; there was no such corn.

When I was little, the corn grown in the fields tasted especially delicious. Later, my family stopped farming, and I haven't eaten that kind of corn since.

We ate mainly store-bought sweet corn and Northeast sticky corn.

The corn planted this time is spring corn, which matures relatively early and can be harvested in a while.

Xu Han picked a few to take home and cook, to see if they were tasty and how they tasted!

Is this the kind of corn we used to eat? If it's delicious, I'll come over tomorrow and pick a lot to save in my online space.

Besides boiling, corn can also be used to make corn cakes, corn pancakes, corn fritters, corn syrup buns, and many other kinds of corn dishes. There are so many ways to eat it! Every single one is delicious.

When I got home, Lu Chuan was already back.

"I just passed by a cornfield and picked a few fresh ears of corn. I'll cook some later and see if they taste good! If they do, I'll pick more tomorrow," Xu Han said to Lu Chuan.

"Okay, let's try it first. If it's good, we'll store more."

"You process the game first, I'll go cook." With that, she turned and went into the kitchen.

First, peel the corn, then wash it clean, put it in a pot and cook it, then add a few eggs and cook together.

Then she started cooking. Xu Han planned to make a spicy stir-fried chicken dish, which was delicious and went well with rice.

Chop the chicken into small pieces, wash it thoroughly, and stir-fry it directly in a pan to remove excess moisture.

Add appropriate seasonings and half a can of beer, simmer for a while. The stir-fried chicken doesn't need to be simmered until it's very tender. After stir-frying it over high heat, add green and red peppers and it's ready to serve. This way, the chicken will be very tender.

After serving, rinse the pot and start stir-frying the greens. Today's greens are scallion oil rapeseed.

Blanch the rapeseed shoots in boiling water, then add the prepared scallion oil sauce.

Simple and delicious! Let's make another poached egg soup. Just add fried poached eggs to boiling water, then add some chopped green onions and goji berries!

After everything was ready, we started eating. Today's main dishes were hot steamed white flour buns and corn from the space.

As soon as the food was served, Xu Han couldn't wait to pick up an ear of corn and start eating it. The first bite was sweet and delicious, just like the corn her dad grew!

"It's really delicious. I'll pick more tomorrow and store it in my space to eat fresh corn. I'll also check if the soybeans are edible; spiced soybeans are delicious too!"

“We didn’t plant peanuts this year. When you go to the county town tomorrow, see if they have any fresh peanuts for sale. Buy a lot. Peanuts and edamame are delicious cooked together!” Xu Han said incessantly.

"They sell them. I saw them when I went to the county town last time. I'll buy more tomorrow!" Lu Chuan replied patiently, watching the person in front of him enjoying his meal.

"Fried peanuts are also delicious, a great snack to have with drinks. I was careless this year and forgot to plant peanuts."

"It's alright, we can buy more after the peanuts are harvested," Lu Chuan comforted Xu Han.

"There are also many other grains that we haven't grown yet, so we'll need to buy more of them. We often need things like mung beans, red beans, and black beans," Xu Han added.

"Okay, let's go buy them together after the autumn harvest. Let's buy a little more of everything, as grains are easier to store and we'll need them often." I hadn't really thought about these things when I was alone before, but it seems these are all daily necessities.

"When you go to the county town recently, buy some brown sugar. The brown sugar in your space is almost gone. Also, see if any dried fruit shops sell raisins. I remember seeing some when I went shopping before," Xu Han instructed.
