Why didn't they go into the room? Because they thought it was dirty, the smell of burning corpses was too unpleasant, and they had no appetite. So they took two chairs from the warehouse, sat on them, covered themselves with blankets, and went to sleep.
Just as dawn broke, the two were awakened by a noise. They realized it was footsteps coming from outside the courtyard, but they ignored it and continued sitting in their chairs. Only after it was completely light did they put the blankets and chairs into the storeroom before getting up to leave.
